Toronto Golf Club

This is possibly the worst but at the very least 2nd worst place I have worked at and I am still working at the Toronto Golf Club. It is a shame too because the clubhouse is beautiful, and the history of it. The Colt and Watson courses are a joy to play. But like many places management is a complete failure. Failure to properly manage events, treat staff with respect, or even treat staff like human beings. This in large part stems from the Cluhouse Manager because in his mind it is a privilege that you get to work at The Toronto Golf Club. His main concern is kissing the members butts to stroke his own ego. Servers are worked for 10 to 17 hour shifts on almost a regular basis between June to the end of September. You will work a 15 hour shift go home at 2 in the morning and are expected to be in for a morning shift at 6:30. And you get to do this while only making minimum wage, even though this is a high end work place they can't afford to pay their staff properly. Labor laws are a joke to the Clubhouse Manager, work 12 days in a row no big deal. He has been here for over 20 years and his management style is from 20 years ago. The Food and Beverage lady is a complete ditz. So useless when its comes to events. Chicken running around with its head cut off or getting drunk at weddings when she should be helping manage it. This is a place that punishes the people who work hard. They vets are burnt out and quit. While the slackers and the buddies to the Clubhouse manager are rewarded. I would advice everyone to avoid this place. You will do better working at a grocery store or a restaurant. Same pay but not having to work ridiculous long shifts and also getting to have a social life.

This place leaves you with no work/life balance. The pay is terrible, the hours are long, and breaks are rarely given (even when you're on hour 12+ of your shift) even though they're automatically deducted from your pay. The training is terrible and the wait staff is always running around, just trying to survive. The management needs work- especially one of the newer managers who is unprofessional and immature. Everything is unorganized, no one knows what's happening until it's too late or about to happen. There is a sense of being lost constantly.
You will do everything in the role of wait staff. You will not just host, bartend, bus tables, and serve, but you will also be the entire dishpit team and a manager (since they're difficult to find or not present at all).  
This place will suck the life out of you. Do not fall prey to them; they will take advantage of you.

An absolutely amazing place to work! While restaurants by nature can get busy and overwhelming at times, management is always happy to help. Management is super accommodating and treats employees like family. Each year there is always a great group of staff (whether they be returning or new) which makes the job that much more enjoyable. Everyone is always extremely welcoming and friendly - my favorite part of the job was all the staff that turned into good friends. The course itself is absolutely beautiful - no better environment out there for a summer job! Would recommend working here to everyone!

A typical day at work would consist of greeting and assisting/serving members as well as fulfilling requests, answering and redirecting phone calls, making reservations, booking tee times, restocking drinks, food and supplies, processing member transactions and EOD reports. 

Management gives you the opportunity to grow by giving you more responsibility if proven to be hard working, responsible and detail oriented and will recognize your efforts with positive reinforcement.

I would say the most enjoyable part of the job would be the exceptional facilities and golfing perks.

I couldn't think of a more beautiful atmosphere to work in than that of the TGC. Getting to be outside and so close to nature ( while being so close to the city) is a breath of fresh air....literally. You will learn to work in a fast paced environment which will keep you on your toes. You will learn the importance of  team work as all the staff in the front of house and in back work together to make each shift run as smoothly as possible. You will gain stamina, people skills and patience while working here...plus the events are fun, the food is delicious and the staff is friendly. That's a win win win in my books :)

Absolutely everything.  The company, management, members and employees make this the best place to work.

In my opinion there is not a stressful part to this job.

Arrive, see what is required from everyone, cut grass and leave.

Working at TGC was a daunting experience to say the least.  The Management of this establishment is strictly driven to make sure they're job is done 100% correctly with as minimal effort required on their end to look good for Members. They have always put working prioritized ahead of employees personal needs as-well as  mental/physical health, which is diminished by the ridiculous hours you will work here.

Working at TGC was an overall good experience that was valuable both professionally and personally. The managers always help out when service gets stressful and offer support. It really improved my interpersonal skills and its a great place to meet new people and form relationships. It is also located on a beautiful historic property which definitely improves the experience.

Working at TGC was a great learning experience and is definitely the perfect place for an entry-level serving job. The staff are all very supportive and are truly there to help and uplift you. I got to grow as a person while working here and made some great memories with my colleagues. Prepare to work hard but also be rewarded. 

During the season the kitchen is a very fun work environment, all the kitchen staff feel like a family as everyone helps out and works together, which creates a very positive workspace ann helps get me motivated for work that day
