A typical day at TCR starts with struggling to find a working computer to sit at, setting up the headset that the company made you pay for yourself, loading up the antique software and desperately trying to make the fluctuating average in order to be paid more than the slightly over minimum wage base rate.

The week long training course was adequate, offering mentoring and many different learning scenarios, the shadowing was long but necessary as with any customer service role there are thousands of different scenarios with no one-size-fits-all solution.

Half of the computers barely work, many of the computer monitors are still old CRT boxes, the washrooms repeatedly are down for maintenance, and they record every second of activity you are doing to report to you later.

There is almost no way to be promoted or get a raise, you merely a disposable object that will be pressured into "performing" with no incentives aside from an ever dangling chance of commission that is mathematically impossible to receive outside of specific working hours and taking other agent's credit. The upper management pressures middle management to pressure floor level management to squeeze the life and hours out of  the workers as much as possible without providing anything in return.

You will need to work 6 days a week every other week. Some departments have 12 hour days on a rotating weekly schedule. In order to keep pay consistent you will be pressured with the "optional" extra hours. The dress code is also strictly pushed and they will find any reason to strip away statutory holiday pay.

TCR is always willing to hire, in it's favour, and with a massive turnaround rate there is barely any workplace culture as any conversation gets immediately stifled. If you are desperate,need an after school job, or want to learn about receivables and credit then apply right away.

Not impressed. First day of training the trainer read at a rapidfire rate to cram in as much info into the first day, It was totally nuts and discouraging and overwhelming as a new hire majority of us were newbies this should be taken into account. I had a headache by noon and didnt feel I could even ask a single question because it would derail her hyper rhythm. I could barely digest the information as she plowed through it. I held my urine so I wouldnt interrupt her by asking if I could go to the washroom. Then they give you tests throughout training. Trainer also talked about her own family members bad credit habits totally inappropriate! Then we were told that we had to pay for headsets, criminal background check, they pay for licenses for you but if you quit then you owe them some back. HR person advised me that my particular dept is “crazy”, I will be learning multiple systems , people will hang up on me, so very discouraging. Worst first training day ever! Ever! Also required to work late one day each week. This was not mentioned in the interview. I then surmised that I was put in a dept that didnt match my qualifications.  Just felt it went poorly was super rushed and I gave up. HR person told us “drop off rate” in training was usually by third day. Again more negatvity. Never had an experience like this before.

A typical day at work at Total Credit Recovery is balancing a number of calls between customers and co-workers and finding solutions to each individual issue. With a strong and supportive management team you learn the basics very quickly and even if you face a challenge that you may feel is overwhelming, the managers and supervisors and more than happy to help you out. The hardest part of the job is dealing with irate customers but if you have patience and a strong sense of humor you can easily flip a negative into a positive, as most customers are either having a very bad day or they genuinely feel distressed by the poor customer service they previously experienced. Mostly these are my favorite customers because after a few minutes of talking to them and getting past their frustrations, I get to the heart of the matter and do my utmost to provide quality customer service, which almost always ends on a very upbeat note. I have even gotten return calls from customers leaving thank you messages on my voicemail. These are the small moments that are the most enjoyable at work.

As a collector if you are really aggressive this can be a great place to earn more than just the base salary but it's hard if you have never done collections before because the good files are given to senior staff in ur department. There is opportunity to make commission. It's a call centre so it's a revolving door unless you really like calling people telling them to pay their bills. Management is blah and HR is worst. They don't protect the staff there and when there is a health and safety issue very little is done. If you go there with your friend to work or you are friendly you can make friends as there are friendly ppl there, Staff welfare is nonexistent and will give like pizza and stuff but you cant eat it on company time it has to be on your break. There is opportunity for promotions if you are friends with managers. but if you are looking for a job to make money and help when applying for your PR you can work here.

They encourage you to be productive, mostly criticize low work ethic but are slow to praise good work. You often find yourself striving to meet their expectations, pushing yourself to be more efficient and effective in your tasks. However, the feedback you receive tends to focus more on what you could improve rather than acknowledging your accomplishments. This can sometimes feel discouraging, as the lack of positive reinforcement makes it challenging to stay motivated. Despite this, you continue to put in your best effort, hoping that your hard work will eventually be recognized. The environment fosters a sense of diligence and perseverance, but it can also create a feeling of imbalance. While constructive criticism is valuable for growth, the absence of praise for good work can lead to a sense of underappreciation. Balancing both aspects could create a more supportive and motivating atmosphere, encouraging continuous improvement and satisfaction.

I been working for almost 4 years. Great company to work at If you have no experience in call center. Training is 2 week period but is very helpful in understanding the basics before you get on the floor. Further training is provided  on the floor starting with shadowing other agents. Management team provides immediate feedback and announces your accomplishments for motivation. Supervisors and managers are always they to lend a helping hand. Growth in the company is very possible if u work hard. I myself went from Team lead to now a compliance officer. Of course it is a fast pace and pressuring job, but comes with rewards. There are opportunities for extra money. Incentives for gift cards and prizes upto $700 cash if criteria are met and they are reasonable. Atmosphere is very friendly and very professional. It's been an on going postive experience for me and I would highly recommend

The worst job experience I've had to date and it has nothing at all to do with the actual debtors.

  The management was absolutely awful, and the supervisors just felt like they were doing what they could to not be as awful as their bosses. It's very likely you won't be treated that well regardless of the campaign you're put on. 
  The debtors/customers aren't that bad, they're just annoyed because they have to deal with all the calls that come along with owing the wrong people(often times not really owing anything at all). 
  If you've been in customer service before it won't be hard to get accustomed to how you can empathize with someone who owes a lot and either can't afford to pay it back or doesn't feel like it's worth it and either show them why it is worth it or be a hero and give them the alternative methods of dealing with it effectively (the latter will likely cost you your job).

while this can be a great starter job, the benefits provided are slim to none, that is if they could legally offer and do less for employees, they would. salaries do not match job expectations, employees have to pay for equipment (headsets) and medical/dental benefits. little to no room for growth within the company. preferential treatment toward those related or close to VPs and upper management, while regular employees and lower management are held to higher standards. pay does not reflect responsibilities and quite often lower management is left to bear the brunt of inadequate upper and middle management. work environment was often hostile as the pressures to perform with limited resources increased.

I had the privilege of working for Total credit recovery from 2015 to early 2017. This company gave me my first job in Canada, and allowed me to familiarize myself with Canadian credit and collections. 
I gained a lot of knowledge concerning finances, loans, credit ratings and building a stable financial future.
 Training was excellent and never ending. The job can be stressful at times  but there was lots of support from my colleagues and management  who rolled up their sleeves  to get the job done . I was grateful for the opportunity  and only left  because I got a job in my field of study .  I never got an salary increase but I made pretty good commission and enjoyed the competitive environment.
I would recommend  this company to anyone  who wants to  gain knowledge in finances in a progressive company .Had a great opportunity to learn a lot outside of my field.

On a auto dialer making 120-150 calls per day in attempts to collect debt owed.

The job itself was ok. My personal experience may not be the best one as the department I was in was not as lucrative as some as the other departments.

In our department it was difficult for most to hit their targets and it was well-known by management and otherwise that the client we were responsible for was not one of the better options.

All in all, i learned a lot about negotiation tactics and various methods of persuasion when attempting to get someone to pay off their debt.

Were I in a better department with better opportunities I think my overall experience would have been much better.
