Totem Building Supplies

Working for Totem Building Supplies has been beneficial to me, it has allowed me not only to gain valuable customer service experience but also has allowed me to obtain day to day life knowledge about the building and maintenance aspects of the trades and construction companies. Totem employees were very hospitable and willing to help with an inquiries that I may have had concerning the job itself, or something that I was not sure of, such as plumbing or electrical. The hardest part of the job was the vast amount of knowledge that could be obtained from years of experience in the trade fields, by being more knowledgeable I could have helped the customer more thoroughly. However, most customers were patient and willing to express their own ideas to what they needed and listen to some of the more seasoned workers as well.

My day at work involved doing cash outs, making floats, balancing safe, submitting the reports to head office by intranet. I also worked at the front doing cash, refunds, & helping out in the sales dept when needed.
I learned about all the products we carried, the computer program we used, the importance of people skills & communication skills.
I was in charge training new girls, did all the scheduling & gave over ride passwords when necessary.
I think the hardest party of my job is getting requests from multiple people and trying to fulfill all of them in a timely and accurate fashion.
I would say the most enjoyable part of my job is the interaction with the customers.

Working at totem was fun its hard work because its fast past job. My job was hard because i have to stayed alrt at all the times. Driving forklifts where there many objects sucks cars, stocks and including my co-workers and customers. Also working with sidewalk block its not easy thing because the weight 110p each and when i get a lady who cant left any weight than i gotta be able to load them up with me hurting my self nor demaged the custmores trucks.

I can guarantee you will; never find another job like this one,
at totem i learned how to wire a 2 way and a 3 way switch, how to install a toilette. mortar and tilling, painting, customer service, leader ship. if your looking for a company to build a career under, this would be the place!

work days were 8 hours. I got to learn about customer interaction. loved working here. very fast pace. always on your feet. the management worked well with it people and made sure you always had something to do. The hardest part of the job was working out in the cold of winter with little amounts of time to warm up. And the most enjoyable was always being outside in the summer

Totem Building Supplies was a great family owned company and even after it was purchased by RONA, it felt like a lot more like a family than one would think.  Some of the smaller RONA stores still operate similarly to a Totem store.  Working at a store or for a company like Totem would be a pleasant experience for anyone willing to work hard.

* Each day was something different, you could be planning a garage for a customer one day, a deck another day or stocking shelf's the next. 
* There was so much to learn and do organization skills with day to day tasks. 
* The best part was working in such a big team environment.
* The worst Part was Pay and words of advancements, not the real thing.

typical day at work for me was when all the things came together, rush, stress, and things not going in their way. i have learnt to overcome more problems at one time. management at every point was really helpful every time. its been easy every time at job with support and encouragement of co-workers and management. i always enjoy having lunch with my co-workers.

In my (short) time with Totem (as it no longer exists), I discovered how rewarding it is to work with a team that feels like family. Every day, no matter how challenging, was rewarding and fulfilling. The managers were never too busy to help anywhere they were needed.

working at totem was am intensely repetitive job, the day consisted of receiving shipments, stocking shelves, putting together transfers and assiting customers as needed. while working for totem you received some small whimis training and MSDS
