This workplace had many problems when it came to shift covers. No one on the team wanted to cover shifts. The staff team often gossips about what happens at school seeing how many of the staff attend school together and they are often distracted on the deck instead of watching the patrons. Management did not accommodate post secondary students needs when it came to scheduling and they refused people work even when certifications were up to date. If they have no position for you, they offer spare staff which means you are on call for shifts and need to be there within 10-15 minutes. Not a fun workplace.

The Town of Aurora has invested a lot on technology and processes to modernize over the past five years. Recently the Town receive gold certification under the Excellence Canada organizational performance review process. Staff are friendly and collaborative and willing to share information to support me in my role. 

I have worked at the company for over a year now and I have met some great people. Supervisors really seem to care about their employees and are willing to step in to resolve issues. However, quite often when you suggest that new supplies are needed for the skates, it can take months to get a replacement, the skate patrollers having to deal with the repetitive conversations of "oh we don't have X at the moment but we should soon!" with impatient people. Overall, great place and would recommend for anyone wanting to get a first job.

The Town of Aurora gives extremely small budget/supply to directors for planning camps for the summer. The supervisors are cliquey, as are the staff. 

Love working with kids and learning new skills however programs are poorly prepared for employees and often forced them to do more than their job requires or do everything in a time crunch. Systems in place do not allow employees (a chunk being young students) to have work-life balance. Points of contacts are not understanding and will demean you. Unprofessional behaviour overall—it’s no wonder everyone is quitting.

Was a volunteer position so pay was not given, but was enjoyable enough and fun to go to. Woke up at 7:00 AM or earlier each day to start at 9:00 AM. Needed the extra time to get ready and walk to the school it was at. Learned how to be more responsible, patient, understanding, and more of a leader.

clean and maintain the ice surface to a high quality level. therefore hockey and figure skating can be played on the ice with out the ice being and inhibiting factor. Well maintained ice is also safe and efficient.

clean all ice dressing rooms. also maintain pool water levels and water quality.

Trains new staff well, you feel confident in the job you are assigned to do. You will get a great first time job experience. They don't expect too many hours/

The Town of Aurora (infrastructure and environmental) is a well organized municipality that generally services the roads and sidewalks of Aurora. The management and supervisors worked well with all employees to make sure it was a safe and happy work environment for everyone.

I would help the financial administrators in certain things they didn't have to do. I would organize. Sometimes, depending if there is a holiday coming, we would plan events and dishes for the event.
