Relatively flexible hours, 8 hour shift, vast majority sitting at desk working on autocad drawings with varied email communications.
Occasional out-of-office visits to work sites/consultant offices for inspections and meetings, work truck supplied while on the job.
Fast growing municipality, but still a small town of 8500+ people, so days can become a little more than tedius, but the ability to be home every night and almost concrete job security makes it, so far, worth while.
Honestly, the most enjoyable part of the job is the drive home. Which is a hard thing when you realize you're spending more than half your waking life in this thing called the pursuit of money.

As with any job there are pros & cons. The frustrations within the organization stem from lack of communication and follow through to the bending to the whims of angry patrons. There are however amazing folks that make the job much more rewarding. The pay/benefits are pretty good and there is opportunity for learning if you work for it. 
The hardest bit is socially as there is a bit of bullying/cliques (even from management to employees) and some pitting department against department, so ignorance is bliss in that area. Some of the turnover can be high so as long as you are flexible and adaptable to different working standards/expectations then you'll be fine. Overall not an amazing place but not a bad one either. 

positives include:
- knowledgeable ground level workforce
- predominantly modern equipment and tools 
- comfortable work hours
- cross department co-operation

Negatives:
- leadership is extremely toxic, politically and career motivated at the expense of workers
- wagers are below average for the worker positions and above average for upper management
- consistently changing organization structure 
- lack of advancement opportunities within organization 

Enjoyable work,  some great coworkers.  Zero support from management, harrassment and bullying are prevalent,  and forget about going to hr.  They'll only side with supervisors and cover their own.  I'm surprised they haven't come under the microscope,  there's a definite pattern in turnover.  Truely disheartening,  you would expect better from the so called pillars of the community.  

I’ve worked in Municipal government at various locations for the last 18 years. This was by far the worst municipal job I have ever had. Staff are incompetent and are promoted based on how much they complain. Management turns a blind eye to poor behaviour enabling bullying, incompetency and an overall poor work environment. Upper management micro manages with very little municipal experience, therefore putting their employees in bad situations.  Worst job I’ve ever had. 

Great people in the town .Had some personal reason's for leaving which could be discussed in person.I had been involved with the local school Deer Meadow;s and given an award at their school for volunteering .I also donated my Horticulture book's of Education to the school to copy to a teacher their.So I also was head of security for the Grizzly's hockey team.I got involved in the community and enjoyed .most thing's there.

Great benefits and good people living in the Town.I had a good relationship with most of the higher end managers but 1st line lead hands or Foreman..very incompetent.The people I served under were   not able to function well in problem circumstances and not at all good at problem solving or creative in the daily tasks.

Great growing Town with an amazing future.A good place to set up and home with a family. It's full of very nice people to become friends with and start-up friendships that will grow and prosper.

Substandard training. Training always put off till last minute then rush you through it.  Lots of unqualified persons going on calls they have no training for. Including mgmt, lots of training but no experience. 

There is an abundance of knowledge and experience on this department. I see a few poor reviews which is disheartening. Just because something doesn't go your way doesn't mean the department is to blame. The equipment, training, and people are all really great and try their hardest to deliver as a top tier emergency service provider.
