Trafalgar is a decent place to begin your journey of working within the mental health sector. They are willing to train you and allow you to grow within their facility.  They allow you to gain practical experience such as counselling skills, crisis intervention and crisis deescalation skills, etc. The work is also very fulfilling as you are able to help people struggling with addiction and mental health. All of the staff members are also very kind and good to work with.

Although, the pay is not adequate for the workload and the type of work that is done. There is also a high turnover rate for counsellors so the counselling department is often understaffed. The owners of the centre also don't appear to care about the clients they serve, their priority is their profit. The owners also don't appear to invest much into the upkeep of the facility. 

I worked at Trafalgar Residence for 4 years. Trafalgar Residence has always supported my growth as a member of their team and have provided me with the necessary support to thrive in my role. I have worked in a few residential treatment facilities in the past and found something special at Trafalgar Residence. The complexity of cases and the opportunity to sharpen your skills is unrivaled to any other place i have worked. It is a treatment facility for those with Mental Health and Addiction struggles, so yeah, Its stressful. However, I have been happy through out the duration of my employment here. As a counsellor or a therapist, that has the ability to cope with their own stress and are willing to utilize their skill sets to the best of their ability, I would highly recommend Trafalgar Residence to my respected networks.

There are some positives to working at Trafalgar.  The work is challenging and the clients can be really inspiring.  There are also some genuinely good staff working on the front line at TR.  However they have a hard time keeping good staff and there is a weirdly large number of management positions and random new positions at head office while counselling staff remain overwhelmed and underpaid.  At the end of the day the company is a for profit organization run by an accountant.  They give you the appearance of having clinical 'experts' but they oversell it.  The owners of the company also have a questionable past and staff who genuinely care will ultimately face ethical dilemmas.  Intake workers are paid commission - that should tell you all you need to know. 

-Undermining work culture, adversarial management
-For-profit values, little clinical or ethical principles
-No support for staff, team meetings, or debriefings
-Frontline staff often staying past hours to support clients
-Client community mistrustful of management due to sales tactics
-In-group culture, good staff quickly burn out or leave
-Consistently understaffed, high turnover, stressful environment
-Clinical staff made to do other duties (housing, cleaning, food prep) due to poor management.

Toxic work culture

No real "vacation" time as you must find coverage or trade shifts.
Be prepared to often work overtime / prepare your own group sessions at home.

I have worked as a therapist for a couple of years at Trafalgar and have gained a lot of professional experience working in this fast-paced and at times intense residential environment. Management is open to feedback and I have witnessed Trafalgar develop many innovative programs to provide ongoing support for clients' and their families since I started. There has also been a better work culture and sensitivity to employee needs over the past year. As stressful as the challenges working in mental health and addictions can bring, being able to make a meaningful difference in clients journeys in recovery and having support from colleagues in this environment is very rewarding.

I have never felt more supported and appreciated by coworkers and managers than here at Trafalgar. To say this place is amazing does not do it justice. I cannot wipe the smile from my face every day because I am so happy and excited to be a part of this incredible team. Trafalgar is changing the face of addiction and mental health with an incredible program, brilliant and compassionate staff, and supportive owners. It is a challenging, fast-paced work environment with tons of opportunity to learn and grow. Trafalgar is truly a special place.

I truly enjoy working at Trafalgar. I have acquired significant experience and knowledge working with the clientele within the program and embrace being challenged as it has enhanced my skills. I find this work to be incredibly rewarding and I am grateful to have the opportunity to engage in such meaningful work.  I value collaboratively working within a multi-displinary team and find the atmosphere to be supportive and friendly. I also appreciate the emphasis on continuing with my professional development.

Toxic, over worked, back stabbing and manipulative behaviour is what you will find here

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Day to day job duties are good, but they remain unprofessional and do not meet CNO standards.

Worked here for just over a month and didn't really like it. I was an overnight counsellor and didn't feel safe or secure as all doors are unlocked and I was the only employee on duty between 12am and 7am. The location at Gores Landing is in the middle of cottage town and secluded.

Comparing my experience from other treatment centres with this company, I have to admit that this one is different. Many opportunities to develop yourself, good place to work for those who want to do more and go beyond their "job descriptions". 
No micro management, flexibility is welcomed.
Clients' results are inspiring. Although it is a business, this company provides amazing aftercare and family support programs for free.
