Working at Trail Tire as an automotive service technician apprentice has been a rewarding experience. A typical day involves inspecting and repairing tires, diagnosing vehicle issues, and collaborating with a skilled team of professionals. The hands-on experience has significantly enhanced my technical skills and understanding of automotive maintenance.

Management is approachable and genuinely invested in employee growth, providing regular feedback and opportunities for professional development. The workplace culture is inclusive and encouraging, fostering a sense of teamwork and mutual respect among colleagues.

The hardest part of the job can be managing peak times when the workload increases, but the supportive environment helps in managing stress. The most enjoyable part of the job is the satisfaction of successfully diagnosing and fixing vehicle issues, and the camaraderie shared with coworkers.

The experience was… something. You walk in, or maybe you don’t. The lights are there, or perhaps they aren’t. People move, or they stay still, and the air feels like air, unless it doesn’t. Time passes in a way that only time can, stretching and folding, sometimes quick, sometimes slow. You notice details, or you don’t, and they matter, or they don’t.  

There’s a sense of expectation, though it’s unclear what for. A rhythm hums beneath the surface, steady yet shifting, familiar yet strange. You think about beginnings, middles, and endings, though none are obvious. The walls might speak, or they might remain silent. The floor holds you, or maybe it lets you drift.  

You leave, or you stay. You remember, or you forget. The impression lingers, or it fades. Was it remarkable? Was it ordinary? Both, neither, everything, nothing. A review that says it all by saying nothing, and nothing by saying it all.  

Managers at stores & owners are terrible. You will be fighting to get the basic 40 hours a week. Your expected to work every Saturday so your going to be stuck with 1 day off during the week. 
Pay is garbage,  no raises and you will be over worked in the spring/winter season change.
You will be forced to work overtime but you won’t be paid that time in overtime, they will make you take days off instead of being paid that overtime.
You’d be better off finding a place that can guarantee you 40 hours a week.
It’s 2-3 years before you will be signed up to school and with that you will still have to wait for anyone else that’s already in school to finish.

Stay away if you can. There are way better shops to work in Calgary than here.

In my 15 years of working within welding and manufacturing plus a 2nd trade, I have never been treated this poorly by management, on an average the manufacturing sector of Ketek has had a high turnover rate over the last year, over 50%. They have a few long term employees who are the only constant in the shop, inexperienced managers who hire their friends, not a great place to work around drama created by the Managers.

In my humble opinion stay away, wasted time won't be recovered, maybe in 15 years they will catch up to reality and the rest of ACTUAL manufacturing practices.

Dealing with customers and having fun with the guys

the management system there is minimal the guys up front are very critical and don't know what they are doing no one who works there was happy and hated there job except the upfront guys because they just sat around talking to customers and made us do everything even the stuff they were supposed to do

Good place to get your feet wet and decide if you like the trade. Will take 2 years doing only tires till you start working on cars. Hopefully you are fortunate to have a good J-man if not you have to take training in your own hands.

Not a enjoyable place to walk into, poor staffing, hire unexperienced people for their busy seasons, then lay them all off.  & start over again next busy season. Just like a rotating door. in/out.... Next!.

Not nice to their workers.  Treatment to staff and customers is unprofessional.  Not honest with customers.  Manager shows favour to his son but treats other staff poor.  Tries to get rid of people for wrong reason.
