Treasure Hunt

The management was so horrible. The same two guys won employee of the month and the one did donuts in the backroom on the forklift most of his shift. You'd get stuff thrown at you and the moment you had a difficult customer... they'd magically disappear. Completely unprofessional as well. Had grown adults talking about me while I was standing a good five feet away. My absolute fav moment had to be when I ran out of change and I saw my manager, asked for more and she ignored me and walked away. Wouldnt even respond to calls from the overhead. Another phenomenal aspect was how they dealt with customers. We'd get quite a few people who would be quite racist to a lovely girl wearing a hijab. Would they defend her? No. 

We had a cashier tell a lovely Chinese couple (who had their son to translate) to speak "proper English" because they're in Canada now. The manager was standing right there and she laughed at this. I saw a review on here about people not speaking "proper English" being rude customers and let me just say 9/10 the people who would throw stuff, scream, call me names or threaten me spoke almost perfect English. If you're nice and patient, the customers aren't too bad (but you still get the crazies who are just frustrated with the lines or the really bad return policy).

You were also expected to clean the store after doors closed and since the floor employees had to juggle multiple tasks, it was always a mess. The management, of course, stuck to the easy aisles or "supervised". You'd be there for quite awhile. 

Anywhere you go, theres bound to be a few bad customers but with support from fellow employees and good management, you can shrug it off. At Treasure Hunt, there were a few great people I worked with and some that were useless. However, the management needed a makeover and quickly. Management can either make or break a company and with looking at some of the reviews here and elsewhere, it shattered the company into a million pieces. 

The pros are nice, but for many (MANY) people, the cons really outweigh them. I saw so many people leave here within a month. So maybe visit the store first to check it out (something I wish I did).

Some of the reviews on here though...very one sided. Let's take a different approach. 
From experience, I'll say no one evoked anxiety on anyone for requesting a FEW days off   There are laws, get real and be truthful instead of slandering someone.

What became problematic was the company's lack of policy for things like sick days, vacations etc and trying to run an operation which was fair to EVERYONE.  You had your frequent complainers of all to complain about, those with a case of "work-itis" on  almost every Friday night and holiday  and those who showed no consideration for a schedule and the time it took to complete it....they would just expect shift changes all over the.place, all the time even when they could have submitted availability the week before.... but were too lazy. 

Then you had the employees who acted fairly and respectfully, giving proper notice of sickness and absence requests. So let's be fair here. 

Many considered it "just a minimum wage job" and treated their employment as disposable. When something went wrong, it was always management's fault but never their own.  No accountability ever learned. Other than students, maybe that attitude is why they were working minimum wage in the first place. But no it couldn't be THEM! Thiat's outrageous! It's the manager's fault! Or the District Manager's fault!  

This company really is very disorganized and bottom line driven but really doesn't screen employees with any background checks so they don't place value on quality employees, just quantity.  Good job for a short time, not a long time, then get out and find real supportive people to continue your career  I did. Thankfully.

Always promised advancement and never given anything close to what you were promised. Very tense and stressful work environment. Tasks set for a person in one day are more than you can do in the time given. Put in a section, but moved around so much through even one day that you can't accomplish anything. No communication between management and supervisors that staff is unsure of what to do. No respect for one another between staff members. A lot of gossiping between staff causing a tense work place. Management is always involved with outside personal matters. Always on the phone or computer dealing with personal matters, but have told staff they need to leave their personal matters away from the store. No respect for management from staff causing the staff to not want to speak to management about things happening in the store. Hours always getting cut on people causing financial issues outside of work, but new staff getting hired at least once a week. Instead of firing people who are not preforming or are causing issues at work, less shifts are given in the hopes they will quit. Shifts each week are always different causing issues in planning apt, ect. outside of work.

Your day to day is often the same, so if you're a creature of habit like myself, you'll thrive. The place is a mess but you do get used to it.
Management is more often than not completely incompetent, unprofessional and predatory. Abnormally petty if you're not in their good graces and will attempt to compel you to quit if they don't like you. A lot of misconduct and will discuss any ongoing investigations with employees.
Pay sucks, and dealing with some people can be draining but you can have fun with little supervision as long as you steer clear of the drama and complete tasks.

Owner did not know product deals. Management stressed beyond belief, supervisors stretched to their limits. Never a petty cash for cleaning supplies, constantly hounded by head office and customers to have public washrooms in a building that should have been condemned decades ago. Always sided with rude social media complaints and never investigated the concerns properly. Product sent to us was always junk but we were harassed for sales goals and punished for lows.

Was dismissed unfairly after one warning. Was promised advancement and acknowledgement of hard work.

Best part was some of the staff but I enjoyed meeting new people and talking with customers

Was Christmas and the rude customers

Always busy and never able to take breaks on time and waiting for staff to cover for your breaks

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Busy explaining how the prices work and how returns and refunds work and which products you could return and get refunded

Management is terrible I wouldn’t recommend this job to anyone. The managers in the brampton location and Vaughan are focused more on the business and they are not  interested with the employees goals or accomplishments. The staff including the District Manager is really unpredictable and unprofessional. Save the trip and find yourself a job somewhere else.

It paid my bills. Barely. They filed for bankruptcy and put us all out of work Dec 9 2024

The  wages were extremely low. Minimal support from head office. The store was located in the roughest part of the city.

We were expected to work miracles with few resources and little support

a typical day at treasure hunt was either manning the cash or cleaning the store which was destroyed on a daily basis by customers uncaring to pick up after themselves. Management had little sympathy for this back breaking work and even goes as far as to actively seek out your removal from the company if you do not fall in line.

Okay place to work sure the manager is better now... The owner was extremely nice and the supervisors and other staff were amazing. I didn't necessarily hate the job but the manager at the time made me extremely anxious and often treated you like garbage if you needed to call in or switch a shift.  Overall was an okay job.
