Tricom Security

I recently left a Site Supervisor position at the retail mall TriCom is contracted at in Peterborough. I would still be happly employed there if personal circumstances didn’t dictate my leaving the company. 

The 5 years I spent employed with TriCom were extremely rewarding, fun and I grew as a professional and an individual during my time there. Wages are competitive, which has the added bonus of annual equipment allowances, boot allowances, flexable medical/prescription benefits and industry leading training. Speaking for what I experienced at the Peterborough site. The transparency TriCom has with mall management has allowed for them to develop training programs that are progressive and engaging. Another perk is the wide range of training you will receive including 40 hours paid on site training and first aid training. For anyone serious about career in security/law enforcement. You won’t find better experiences in the area to get you to that desired career. If you are hardworking and willing to learn, this job taught me things like; retail leasing, budgeting,  private property law,  municipal by-law enforcement, arrest procedures, conflict de-escalation and defensive tactics. You are working with management and the public daily. It’s a great place to develop great customer services skills, as you will more often then not be the first point of contact for customers and tentants looking to make complaints or inquiries. 

The environment at the Peterborough site is one of a supportive team dynamic. Many departments work together with security to ensure everyone’s experience is a safe and enjoyable one. It was hard work and long hours at times, but I always enjoyed who I worked with and liked coming to work everyday. The relationship TriCom has with the inhouse security team is exeptional when talking about 3rd party security. The Security manager is welcoming and supportive to all the staff there. The same goes for TriCom management, they are always available and will never turn you away if you need support or advice. They genuinely care about all their staff as individuals and will personally help you succeed in any way they can. 

TriCom is hands down a great company to be a part of; for anyone in the area looking to start or further their career in security or law enforcement.

Been working at a site for over 7 years. 3 Security Companies have been through in those 7 years. TriCom was the last company and has been the longest company to provide Security Services.  I have worked at many Security Companies throughout the 17 years in this industry and I have never had an "Open Door" policy experience quite like TriCom's.

What I mean by "Open Door" is that employees, at anytime can reach out to anyone member of the Management Team in any form (Email, Text, Phone Call) and either they answer right away or within minutes literally. It's something refreshing that I never experienced with any other company I worked for.  

Another issue I had that disappeared when I joined TriCom was "Payroll Discrepancies"  At one company, I was working a fixed site with fixed hours/shifts and every pay cheque I was shorted hours.  It would take days, sometimes weeks to get it fixed.  With the Payroll Department at TriCom, I would receive my pay stubs days before my pay and if there was any discrepancy, I would email immediately and within minutes, it would be addressed, fixed and an apology.  

That, with the above mentioned policy does help to alleviate a lot of Workplace and Life Stresses.  The last thing I want to do is take home and carry any sort of stress.

Another stress I had was Medical Benefits. Again, TriCom helped to remove that from my life.  Benefits are free and the package(s) are very diverse. The insurance carrier is just a quick phone call or email away to help you with any hassle you may have.

When TriCom took over Security Services at the site I work at, my former employer was "Stalling" a raise I was supposed to receive. I spoke to TriCom Management when they issued me the Offer of Employment, explained the situation and they gave me half of the raise immediately and the other half after 90 days (3 Months) Since then, I have received yearly raises that have been more than fair and better than any other company that I have worked for.

All in all, TriCom has been nothing but a fantastic employer to me. I would totally recommend applying for a position when one becomes available.

When I first got hired, I had no experience in LP work. There's no formal training on how to work and they expect a lot from you. Don't get me wrong, I've learned a lot on my own. It's great experience and easy to handle. Most people you encounter are great to work with and some are absolutely incompetent team members... but who am I kidding. It's like that everywhere no matter where you work.

Overall, as long as their are no complaints against you and anything stolen while you work you're fine. If there are issues between you and a location they just cycle you through another boutique until they think it's ok to toss you back into that location. Some locations have politics and drama as if we're in high school... turning on each other just to look good. 

Environment...
Most locations are great. No problems, you do your thing and they leave you alone. There are just a few places that would claw at you like no tomorrow making it very intolerable. But in the end, it's the client who pays this company so your opinion doesn't count.

Pay...
Pay isn't too bad... it's a job that can pay your bills. Just a note... If you don't keep track when your probationary period is over, you will never get that raise they promised when you signed that contract. Don't even expect much of a raise, it's not about your performance or experience in this field. You get what they want to give. But look on the bright side... you get paid for your breaks. But some places will call you back while you're on break because it's too busy to handle without you. 

TL:DR
They work you like a slave... mainly because they're constantly short on staff... 
Also they can't find enough competent employees...

I had the pleasure to work for this company out of a mall in Peterborough, Ontario and if my personal circumstances were to allow for it, I would not have left this position.

I genuinely feel this is the best security position in Peterborough. The mall is a beautiful environment to work in offering a very comfortable work setting. The team I worked with was very professional and friendly and made me feel quite welcome from day one - the same goes for the management.

TriCom will take the time to make sure you are well trained for this position out of the company's expense - ideal for anyone interested in a career in policing; this is a great place to gather job related experience. I also consider the look of the company uniform to be much nicer than the competition.  

Another thing I liked about this position was the scheduling. You are sent a set schedule to your email comprising the next several weeks worth of your shifts. I know that some of the other security companies operating out of Peterborough do not offer such scheduling dependability. You are also allowed to swap shifts with your teammates provided both parties agree. 

Overall, I really don't have anything negative to say about this position. I would still be working there if my personal circumstances were different and I would recommend this job to my friends.

I think the worst part about joining TriCom was how much the company talked up the promises of work experience, benefits and much more. Only to experience the absolute opposite within the first couple months. I never imagined I'd ever be so openly deceived by an employer regarding such a multitude of information, seemingly to get people hired and through training. 

I'd never been so happy to get out of employment for a company in all my life. The sense of relief I felt is hard to explain. The atmosphere that was building so here was one of unclear, inconsistent communication, impersonal lack of respect and a feeling that your openly unimportant and replaceable to them right off the bat, especially if you question the the Security Manager at your respective site or the “President and CEO” who does alot of the work on his own to cut back on costs. The pay is absolutely terrible especially for the tasks that are assigned to the security department.

But honestly don’t take my word for it. Give it a try as it really is something you have to experience to fully comprehend. They’ll hire most Security Guards seemingly on the spot and throw you into the fray soon after. It'll make you appreciate many of the other decently managed agencies that are out there. Although i learned something at TriCom I would never ever recommend it to anyone looking to build a career within the field. 


The pay isn’t even close to what it should be for what we’re expected to do. Jobs will vary by job site but for the most part a lot of places will place the onus and responsibility of bigger issues onto the security department to avoid liability. Training is horrible and teaches you nothing, both when it comes to protecting yourself AND subduing people in a safe and appropriate manner. You also only get one physical safety training course per year. As much as team work exercises can be cringey, they are VERY necessary for this job and yet are not provided in any way shape or form. NARCAN is not allowed to be carried at all which puts your safety and others at risk due to the type of people you will likely interact with on a daily basis. Overall this job has ruined my idea of what security is supposed to be and though I have learned some things I wouldn’t recommend TriCom Security to anyone. 

If I were to recommend a Security Company, it would be TriCom Security! Starting pay & benefits is above average. Very fair salary increase as well, basing you on performance. Lots of hours! 

Started in Loss Prevention and moved to Uniform Security for different challenges and experiences. Mobile positions are also available! I did not regret anything while working with this company!  

The management are very open in not only for your growth within the company but also in your career advancement! This is a perfect Security company for those who are looking to move around the Security field and get to work in any departments!

I worked for Tricom Security Service for over 3 years, most of it being a part of the mobile team. Tricom, over the years I spent there, treated me with respect, kindness and understanding. I started off working in a parking lot managing the parking area, and quickly moved up and worked multiple areas, up until I started being part of the mobile team, which is a position that I felt like I excelled in. Over my time on the mobile team I was personally coached by the managers of the company on how to improve in all areas I needed improvement in.

Also there was always someone to answer the phone regardless of the time for all problems.

I worked for TriCom security Services at Lansdowne Place for four years. I have nothing to say but positive things about this company. I was fortunate enough to start as part time employee and work my way to Security Supervisor. This job provided me great training experiences. It had a uniform allowance and provided good benefits for full time. The most valuable part of this company was that the CEO/owner was very supportive & not only cared about the company, but the employees that worked for them. I have now been hired as a Police Officer, and this job most certainly helped build my character and experience to get to where I am today.

Retail malls, Luxury boutiques, commercial, and small  residential properties. Pretty good run of the industry.

Training is specific to the location as it onviously would be and more experienced team members help with that pretty specific training.

There are lots of hours available for anyone looking for overtime.

Pay increases are based on both length of service and performance.

Employee Benefits are pretty good (could always be better) considering that you don't have to contribute yourself to their benefit plan.
