A great company all around. You may not exactly be gaining new experiences when you're working but they will always find work for you when you're employed. The co-workers are great and the management are only human, they treat you fairly.

Seems to be very oriented around large scale jobs, if there aren't other projects that are available then you and many others will lose your job on very short notice. It may be harder to find jobs when hundreds of ex co-workers are also looking at the same time as you are.

Hardest part is moving at a slower pace most of the time. Deadlines do come up and then you work faster and clock the over-time but otherwise it was slightly slower paced than what I was comfortable with.

It's a good company to work for if someone needs a balance between work and their personal life. They are well organized with a balance between adult oriented tournaments and others events that are family based.

All things considered, I would work here again. The few downsides is that you may have a smaller scope as to how much you can learn as an apprentice. I feel as though I didn't learn too much as a whole, rather that I repeated the same base skills endlessly. As a journeyman there simply aren't many opportunities for advancement. Would still recommend to the average electrician.

My time at Trotter and Morton started off promising, but over the years the environment took a major toll on my physical and mental health. The IT department culture is by far the most volatile and dysfunctional I’ve experienced. Leadership frequently undermines one another and engages in shouting matches in front of staff, leaving employees stuck in the middle of ongoing power struggles. 
Roles and responsibilities are rarely clear, yet employees are punished when expectations (that were never communicated) aren’t met. When things go wrong, accountability is pushed downward rather than owned at the leadership level. Staff are expected to wear every hat, fill every gap, and operate without training or proper handoffs, and any mistakes are held against them.
Remote work is outright denied for IT, even though the work is very much possible to perform remotely and is the standard in most IT environments. Leadership claims it isn’t possible, but other departments and even management themselves enjoy hybrid schedules. Flexibility is treated as a privilege rather than a basic tool for work-life balance.
There is no real investment in training or professional growth. “Development opportunities” and promises of promotions are dangled but never realized as goalposts are always moved. Compensation is presented as generous, but it does not reflect industry standards, workload, and stress.

This company treats you very well and gives every opportunity to succeed, specially apprentices.  Time is taken to teach and move forward.  I've worked for some awefull hellish companies in the past that don't care about safety or if you learn or not, but this company outfits you in full safety gear and gives you pretty well anything you ask for to help make the job easier.   The only issues I have here are a select few at the childrens  hospital site who for reasons unknown have nothing better to do than sabotage this company at every turn and I'm sick of it.   Here's the truth:
 -you get paid at the highest non Ibew rate out there  (which when I compared to my friend in the ibew after all his dues and market recovery I actually make 20 cents more an hour).  
-you are given full safety gear including replacements 
-any tools or material you require to make your job easier are given so long as you can make a decent argument as to why you need it.
-there's an active union that make sure we get comforts such as fair work,  microwaves, water, respirators and so on
-there's an active safety crew to ensure you're not put in dangerous conditions and who outfit you with anything you need including warm gloves during cold days
-great Benefits and rrsp program

The only thing to deal with is the drama that as stated before, is spread from a few of my coworkers for some reason.

This is a temporary position, the project they are hiring for has 220 workers already and is finishing in June (after which the plan is to layoff all the workers)

this company lured me with promises about high quality work and a professional environment. this was quickly revealed as a lie. the company has bungled its way from one deadline to the next. the delays on ordering materials are abysmal, 1 week for the order to leave site and then 3 weeks to arrive, also the management would reduce all our outgoing orders by 30%. when ever the foremen or leads complaint about this unacceptable wait time management just says "you guys need to be better at ordering ahead" (4 weeks ahead is unpractical when the design changes twice a month).

every time a journeyman or lead or foreman tried to fix or improve a situation management refused being a Calgary company they didnt know anything about seismic regulations, everyone from BC tried to explain that we could save allot of time by not waiting till the last minute... management refused listen.

paychecks get messed up every pay period, company doesnt fix the discrepancy until next paycheck

TLDR. this is a paycheck nothing more. no longterm prospects and no personal fulfillment

I don't recommend working for the vancouver electrical division. The management is horrible and inexperienced. They belive the field staff is an expense and will cheap out at every chance they get. If your the forman on site be prepared to look like a fool in front of what ever general contractor your working for, the office staff doesn't back up what they say they will do until the General contractor calls them direct. If your a Jman don't ever expect a raise. Even the former have to fight to get a raise passed Jman rate when there the lead on a job site. Apprentices be prepared to learn from other apprentices, there is usually only 1 Jman on a job and hes to busy doing the forman duties and picking up the offices slack. The union is a joke, same as CLAC but small and Trotter is the only electrical contractor.  The only reason the union is there is so the company can bid on union jobs. As well don't count on steady work after the job your working on. Trotter cant land jobs and while I worked there, always heard how every job is loosing money and how the electricians have to put in more effort with no bonuses or perks. They say go work at the hospital, great experience, but there is no one experienced in hospital work.

Good place for a Journeyman to earn a paycheck and not have to use your brain.The work pace is very laid back unless there is a deadline. Best you can hope for as an advancement is Sub-foreman and no guarantee you will stay as one through whole job or transferred as one to the next job. Trotter is good on paper as far as benefits but they use it to pull the curtain over the bad management. Good place to get your foot in the door as someone wanting to start an apprenticeship as they will indenture you straight away. However you will get pigeon holed into one role, usually pipe bending. Not a great learning environment get in as a first year get out as a second year. The hospital site was fairly well run but the management team that looked after the hospital is not looking after the YYC expansion. If you are looking for a job with Trotter specify you would prefer to be on the Downtown site or U of C stay away form the airport if possible. Safety is above average compared to other companies i have worked for.

I was a 1st and 2nd year apprentice while working for this company. 
My typical day was helping anyone who needed it and learning what I could about the trade.
I got to learn many different aspects of my job and as a 2nd year I was given the opportunity to run a small crew doing slab work on a tower downtown. The company liked what I did and offered to have me run the slab crews on their next tower once I got out of school as a 3rd year.
My co-workers were helpful and friendly in my learning processes.
The hardest part of my job was being thrown into situations that I had never seen before and being told that I was the one that had to figure it out, make it work, and make it up to code and standards for the company and job. It was a struggle at times, only being a 2nd year, but it forced me to learn very quickly how to do things correctly and efficiently.
The most enjoyable part about the jobs was learning new things.

As of Foreman's direction the day proceeds specially if it is a new project. Otherwise carry on with the project toward completion. Any situation I would get confirmation.

I am an open person for new things to learn with an open eye. Even thing I did not work on, I would ask and read up on it.

Management is only as good as is the communication between leaderships and Crew members.

I Treat people with respect and even after all I have them friends forever. Everybody is capable of something better then the other and it is up to leadership to help them to see the better way if it is necessary.

Getting let go without notice.

Learning every possible way and knowing there is work tomorrow.

As a service mechanic, received calls from dispatcher, dealt with them accordingly. In between calls we worked on preventive maintenance, projects and repairs on HVAC equipment in a timely manner with real time customer service via phone, email or upfront. Very self managed position which was the best part and downfall as well, there are times where direction was unclear but with some digging I was able to use resources to get me through an issue without too much problems. Felt like the team members were divided by personalities and groups and never felt like everyone was for the team.

Starting out here you will be given the worst jobs. If you ask questions for academic purposes you will be slandered, especially if they don't know the answer. Management is extremely unprofessional, tacky, and gauche. There is plenty of drama to go around for everyone at Trotter and Morton. You will never receive support from those that work in the office. They have one of the worst safety programs in the city. You can go to over 90% of the sites that have workers there and there will be no implementation of safety protocols and policies.  If you make friends with the wrong person, you will be treated poorly and disrespectfully. Its definitely a popularity contest and it feels not much different than high school.
