This is your typical corporation job. A large company, with policies and procedures but rarely abide by these policies unless they have some higher up manager or audit coming up.  When it comes to working machines and forklifts, Trouw Nutrition does a good job with the safety awareness and giving people the proper education so workers can go home in one piece.
When you first start with Trouw Nutrition you are thrown into the mix. Regardless of what department you will be in, you will be given very little hands on training and will be thrown a bunch of SOP's so you can understand the job better. This is basically the way Trouw Nutrition runs. As you scramble and stress out during your first few months, it is one of the worst feelings being isolated without any real support.
Upper management wants all employees in  production and throughout the facility to be cross trained. Yet, the more you know and are capable of running a lot of the aspects in the facility, you get no appreciation or compensation for stepping up. 
The horrible part of this job is dealing with the truckers who haul the grain for Trouw Nutrition. A lot(not all) are very rude, abrasive and they can ruin your day in a heartbeat. If you are a new person and are reading this, you are going to be in shock the way you get treated. I know that Trouw Nutrition tries to keep a barrier between the workers and truckers, but it doesn't stop the truckers from verbally abusing you. If you get the opportunity to work in the warehouse, you will interact with customers and for the most part can be very pleasant to deal with.
If you believe that you can move up with this company, do not get your hopes up, once you get into the Management roles, you will see that everyone is either related or are heavy favourites. If you get the opportunity to work here, just observe the lead hands/supervisors. You will see how hard people work to achieve these positions but it comes with a lot of stress. 
The benefits and vacation are not that bad to be honest. Unfortunately you will be put into a bind if you do schedule an appointment(medical, dental) during company  hours. One day they will be happy and supportive and other days you get texts and phone calls if you are not back within one hour of your appointment. It is a very strange situation to be in. 
 Throughout my time at Trouw Nutrition, I have seen some compassionate things from management, especially with newer people. Yet, the flame gets extinguished most of the time. 
I would recommend this job to those who are younger and want some experience. Be warned, that this probably will not be one of those companies that you stay 40 years at because the company culture will not allow it. 
A positive thing that Trouw Nutrition does in the Olds facility. They will feed you lunch, BBQ's, pizza and other kinds of foods. I guess that is it.


 

I was here for a few years. 
I started in production, then was asked to work in the warehouse. 
The warehouse position is super busy most of the time.
The biggest problem is there is no communication between management, logistics and the warehouse. 
Product and ingredients pour in on a daily basis, we run out of room all the time so the feed is constantly crammed in tents and down aisles. 
This position you need two people to maintain and manage the warehouse and tents. For the most part, you never get the help if we are short a person. It then gets really stressful. You have to manage and organize the tents and warehouse, pick orders, load/unload trucks, assist customers and attend to phone calls.
In the summer and early fall, you will get days where it is not busy. So we just chill and help customers and enjoy the weather.
In the winter, it gets super cold and management doesn't provide proper warm clothing. They do give you gardening gloves, but that is totally useless in the cold. 
Doing this everyday taxes you and it is repetitive.



Overall I enjoyed the physical workout aspect and my co-workers. In my interview for the position I was not informed that overtime would be mandatory and I did not accept being forced to work overtime and therefore I was terminated. They force overtime 5 or 6 months straight. At my location they do not hire seasonal employees for the busy time instead forcing overtime. Good ppe and clothing provided for the work environment. Overall good bunch of people and if you are Ok with the lower pay with longer hours then it may work for you. I was experienced in some aspects of the job and was picking up quickly on the machinery but the fact that I was owning up to my contractual obligations but not willing to accept a condition that was not a part of my contract ultimately led to my termination. Typical of management not being able to handle an employee who can not just give in to unreasonable demands.

A typical day at work here looks like stocking shelves, tending to customers, running the cash register, carrying and loading a lot of feed for customers, and sweeping at the end of the day. I’ve learned how to run a forklift here, as it can be pretty important. The management here is great. My manager is funny and understanding, all while ensuring work still gets done. The workplace culture is good. The hardest part of the job is staying motivated with the very, very low salary for the type of work that we do. It’s definitely not just sitting at a cash… carrying multiple 25KG feed bags and moving literal tons of feed all day and we still get paid less than McDonald’s workers. The most enjoyable part of the job is working with my co-workers, having a really good boss, and interacting with the community. Sometimes.

A typical day at work was repetitive and often unorganized. Communication between departments was poor, and it felt like management had no clear direction or understanding of what was happening on the floor. I didn’t feel like I learned much since proper training and guidance were lacking, and you mostly had to figure things out on your own.

The workplace culture was stressful and unmotivating — there was a lot of favoritism and very little recognition for hard work. The hardest part of the job was dealing with the lack of support and unrealistic expectations. The most enjoyable part of the job was simply leaving at the end of the day, as there wasn’t much satisfaction or teamwork during the shift.

Trouw Nutrition offers a strong foundation for those passionate about animal nutrition, with access to cutting-edge research, global exposure, and a collaborative work environment. It’s a great place to develop technical expertise and contribute to meaningful innovations in the industry.
However, working in R&D can sometimes limit future career growth, as transitioning into commercial roles may be challenging due to the strong research-oriented background. Additionally, compensation may be lower compared to competitors in the sector. At higher levels, office politics can be noticeable, and leadership changes happen frequently.
Overall, it’s a solid company for those looking to grow in technical and research fields, but it’s important to consider long-term career goals when joining.

A typical day for a line-worker involves rotating between operating the hoppers which dispense food into bags, and piling those bags onto skids at the end of the line.

A third-man is the lowest on the pyramid, and can be expected to do a bit more of the undesirable jobs such as cleaning food elevators at the end of a run. 

The management never caused me any issue, and the co-workers helped the days to fly by. However, the weekly rotating midnight/afternoon/daytime schedule makes consistent sleep difficult, and the duties of the job require more physical strength than the average factory job. In exchange, the pay is quite handsome.

The company benefits, and hours of operations. The location to my residence.

Management was very toxic.  Management was very unorganized.  No clear path from lower level management.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
The work environment is very toxic.  The lower level management has problems working with female employees.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Many different duties many of which melt into other positions.  Fast pace, no clear direction from management.

Extremely fast paced, stressful and toxic work environment. Staff are under paid for the work load required and under appreciated. Company has a strong corporate dynamic culture, you are just a number, upper management doesn’t respect employees at all. 

They will over work you and not compensate you for it. Majority of the staff are awesome to work with but upper management does not support their team at all. 

Physical work, antiquated machinery but good people
Fast paced work environment, mill runs 24/5 so you usually get weekends off.
Very physical labour, constantly lifting 25kg bags all shift.
Management is usually pretty friendly.
It’s a dirty, physical job with older machinery, not a lot of automation.
The long-term people here are good to be around.
