If you are considering any management position, run for the hills!!

 A typical day involved being expected to perform the full duties of a store manager without the title, pay, authority, or respect that should come with it. Staff were regularly overloaded with unrealistic expectations while receiving no meaningful support.

I learned how to work under intense pressure, adapt quickly, and manage multiple responsibilities at once. I also learned how IMPORTANT fair treatment, proper leadership, and ethical workplace standards are, especially after seeing the damage caused when those are missing.

MANAGEMENT- HUMAN RESOURCES 
Only 1 PERSON 4 HR & NO TRAINING… 
Management lacked consistency, accountability, and fairness. There were serious concerns around favouritism, unequal treatment, and discrimination, with few employees feeling protected while most felt targeted & treated differently. Concerns raised by staff often did not get investigated or resolved.

The workplace culture is toxic and driven by fear rather than support. Many employees feel undervalued, replaceable, and hesitant to speak up due to fear of retaliation. Morale was low, turnover was high, and trust in leadership was nonexistent. 

The hardest part of the job was being held to management-level expectations while lacking the pay, authority, and support to succeed. Dealing with unfair treatment and inconsistent standards only added to the stress. Seeing how much we can make the store succeed while being held back on purpose. 

The most enjoyable part of the job was the coworkers and customers. Many frontline staff were hardworking people who supported one another and made challenging days easier.

They'll fire you on a technicality in the blink of an eye. They lie and promise you things like benefits when they aren't actually available to anyone who isn't a store manager.  They're dog faced liars and no matter what you do or offer in terms of hours worked (paid and unpaid) for the buisness. No matter how much you work to change the shopping culture and expieremce from abysmal to something to be proud of, it won't ever be enough in the eyes of True North Cannabis. 

Unless you somehow move up past a store manager, you're completely replaceable and you will never be rewarded for anything over the bare minimum. I thought working for Value Buds was a joke

I wouldn’t recommend this company to anybody looking for a job. A typical day working here is spent listening to assistant managers and the senior store manager talk badly about other employees, having employees pinned against each other, and leaving work beyond stressed and upset. Coworkers will yell at other coworkers and nothing gets done to fix any issues between coworkers or to make the workplace a healthier environment to work in. Management is not helpful at all when dealing with issues regarding other employees and it is make very clear to employees that they are replaceable. If you are looking for a job in the cannabis industry go anywhere but True North Cannabis Co.

The customers were among some of my favourites in over a decade of retail.  However, extreme mismanagement from higher levels made this position difficult.  Leaders were aggressive and lacked good communication.  Favourtisim and nepotism were fairly obvious.  If you have issues with pay or head office you will feel very abandoned.  Although I enjoyed the people on a personal level, the work environment was draining and hostile.

Really enjoy the job itself, I love the atmosphere and customer interactions. Very laid back and easy. Super cool coworkers. However management and higher ups are seriously lacking. Passive aggressive higher ups and horrible communication from management. Clear favouritism, especially with men and women. Fluctuating labour cuts. Would only recommend this job as a last resort. 

management on a general level is extremely disorganized, very common to receive one answer from the store manager and an entirely different one from the general manager. interview process was much longer than it needed to be and frequently repeated the same questions/facts. work culture is poor due to disorganization. 

Low relative turnover rate means more inadequate budtenders staying with the company longer. MVP budtender types are exhausting in this line of work, what should be team work is often bent into competition. 

The higher ups do not value your work or time put into the company, they will not reward your efforts,  and give you the absolute bare minimum. 

Good luck asking for anything more from this garbage of a company.

True North is such a rapidly expanding company I found there was a lot of room for growth. I started out as a budtender, quickly moved up to keyholder, and after a few months of learning I opened a True North store and started to manage my own shop.

They tell you that you'll have 6 weeks to get your background check & will terminate you after 4 weeks. 
They'll give you crazy hours, either 12-1030. And while training expect you to train new budtenders.
