Worked there for a couple of years, and while there are fantastic and wonderful people on the ground level, and a few decent ones in management, the reality is they spin the clients in circles until they can be housed within the turning points umbrella so as to get more funding. There are no systems in place to further the "continuum of care" they preach, Ask any of their clients how many times they've filled out the same application and see the reply. They do not track who has done what and with the turnover they have (due to management, or lack of, from what i experienced) no staff knows where anyone is in any housing processes. Any application gets set into a stack of papers that ends up getting tossed in the recycling after it gets too large, and the clients start all over again. Due to the way things are ran they have less and less people willing to work for them and so are always short staffed and having to let beds that could be filled sit empty. They put up a great image but as soon as you look past the surface and into the way things operate you see the rot festering. Them having to close programs completely due to no one wanting to work for them is a shame because there are so many people who need the help.

Management is highly supportive, engaged in daily operations, and always available to provide guidance. There are also plenty of opportunities for overtime, while management also respects and prioritizes employee mental health and work-life balance. If you want to work for a company that claims to care about people, but treats their staff like garbage and does a disservice to their clients, you've found the place. 
Their wage grid is decent because it's union.. its union because the management is brutal. Somehow they've managed to give you even less rights by using the union. It's truly remarkable how badly the executive strives to screw its workers. There are no union reps because if you join to help they target you until you quit. 
You have family members supervising family members. Management favouritism is very clear when assigning positions. 
The best part of the job is being able to actually help clients, but depending which site you're working at, you might get in trouble for that too. Seriously.

I worked at Turning Points Collaborative Society in Vernon and overall had a fairly positive experience. There is a high turnover rate, which can be challenging, but that is unfortunately common in this field. As a casual employee, there were plenty of opportunities to pick up shifts, which made it easier to maintain consistent hours. Most of my coworkers were supportive, caring, and great to work alongside. I didn’t interact with management very often, but from what I observed, they seemed supportive and approachable. While this work can be demanding, it can also be meaningful. I do believe there is room for improvement in ensuring all staff are well suited for this type of work, as the way some residents were spoken to was at times concerning.

If you have proper education or certification in this field don't bother working here. You don't do any actual social work with clients and mostly sit at a desk and clean constantly like a janitor. They pay everyone the same wages (union thing apparently) too so your education will be irrelevant. They hire anyone which is scary because working with the vulnerable population requires proper skills and education. Managers make you feel guilty for calling in sick and there is family is working over and under each other which is not right or fair. The work culture can be very toxic, people have attitude about senority and don't make you feel welcome when you are new. I understand why the staff turnover is so high. Very disappointing experience.

I do like some aspects of this job but mostly you feel like you’re walking on eggshells. Sometimes managers are nice and sometimes they act like you aren’t there. You never really know if you’re in trouble or if they just don’t like you. 
I’ve seen managers cut people off when they’re talking, roll their eyes, wear slippers at work, ride around on scooters during work hours and just sit around and gossip. Managers have their kids working there so if you don’t feel like being friends with that group you’re on the outs. 
It’s hard to focus on your job when there’s always so much gossip and negative energy.
If you want to work here good luck, I hope it’s temporary or it will negatively impact your life like it has mine. 

I am surprised by some of the negative reviews on here, they are clearly from some toxic and disgruntled people, sad to see. My experience has been very positive and the manager and program coordinators are very fair, supportive and experienced. 
The work can be very challenging, don't get me wrong, but this is the career path I have chosen to make a difference in my community and I love it! I highly recommend working here, there are tons of hours as a casual and great benefits and a pension when you get a full time line.

TPCS is a non-profit in Vernon that has been so woefully mismanaged that any entry-level position is sure to be more harm to you than the pay is worth. Their Vernon worksites are consistently underfunded and understaffed, and employees there are pressured and gaslit into working overtime pretty much from the jump. The coworkers who aren't burned out or new are recruited from the company's own treatment and housing programs into a sort of neo-serfdom. If you are interested in working for a brutal real-estate empire disguised as a housing agency then you have found your home here. At least someone has.

Please if you value your mental health do not apply here. The only pros are the wage and helping clients. If you have formal education it is pointless at Turning Points as they hire anyone. Only place I’ve worked where no one even bothered to check in when I returned from stress leave/suicide attempt that was induced by working here. Guess they don’t care how to adequately support employees or even bother to consider their input If you want to feel like you are in high school again with management that has no adequate education and experience and runs the show like a nepotism/favoritism circus this would be a great option for you. No support for staff whatsoever and good people are let go.

I’ve never seen a company that employs only adults but all the employees are asked to tell on each other for every little thing like we are children. 
HR should not be humouring every little complaint but should instead be saying “you’re an adult what did you do to resolve this issue on your own” Basically if you don’t tell on your coworkers first you’re the one that will get into trouble. 
I’m beginning to think the problems within this company are stemming from HR because they are the ones letting management do whatever they want and humouring stupid complaints from staff. 
Also creating an employee of the month is a joke. When a collective group is working towards a goal they should all be rewarded not just 1 or 2 people.
