The flexibility in making your own schedule and the administrative work being handled for me have been great. By far the most rewarding part of the job is working with the students, building a positive relationship with them and hearing feedback from parents that their child is improving. I will say that the downside to this job is the compensation and hour availability. The pay rate is decent and offers fair raise advancement. 

However, after learning how much families spend on tutoring vs. what I get paid, I don’t think it is entirely fair. I do appreciate the administrative work that is compensated for in that difference, but I think that the tutor actually working with the student should be making more than half of what parents pay — currently it is below half. Additionally, we do end up working more hours than we are paid. Tutors are only paid for the time they spend in session with a student. This does not account for time consulting with a new family (who often requires multiple attempts to reach), preparing lesson plans, discussing the child’s progress with parents, writing reports, etc. I’ve had multiple instances now where I have been assigned to a family, spent days or weeks going back and forth with them, only to never have a session with the student — which means I was never compensated for any of that time. There are also not enough hours available (at least for me as an online tutor) for this to be a full-time job able to support a single person in this economy. It is a flexible schedule and additional income for me while I pursue my undergrad. 

I had an extremely disappointing experience with this company. They listed a job offering only $18 per week (one session) and still managed to attract 37 applicants. It’s shocking that a business would advertise positions they clearly cannot support with sufficient hours. This practice wastes applicants’ time and raises false hopes for meaningful employment.

The company seems more focused on creating a facade of opportunity than genuinely supporting its employees or providing value to clients. This approach reflects poorly on their management and priorities.

For potential clients, I would strongly urge you to consider other options. If a company treats its employees this poorly, it raises questions about the quality and consistency of services they provide.

I cannot, in good conscience, recommend this business to job seekers or clients. My advice: look elsewhere for a more ethical and better-managed organization.

I recently joined Tutorax as a math tutor, and my experience so far has been very positive. The platform is well-organized, making it easy for tutors to manage their schedules, track sessions, and communicate with students. The support team is responsive and always ready to assist with any questions or issues, which is incredibly helpful, especially for new tutors.

The students I’ve worked with are motivated, and Tutorax does a great job of matching the right tutor with the right learner, ensuring productive and engaging sessions.

Working at Tutorax was, without a doubt, one of the worst experiences of my professional life. The pervasive lack of organization permeated every aspect of the workplace. 

From day one, it was clear that there was no coherent structure or communication strategy in place, leaving employees in a constant state of confusion. The human resources department seemed ill-equipped to address employee concerns. Attempts to raise issues were met with no support for the tutors, and always supported every single word parents said, even when it was bogus. Therefore, no tangible steps were taken to rectify the underlying problems.

I would caution anyone considering employment at this company to think twice before subjecting themselves to such a disheartening and unprofessional work environment.

Salary promotions come fairly quickly and are proportional to the effort given. Management can be unclear when you have questions, but they provide many resources like a personal contact with an administration employee, a messenger group with other experienced tutors, and a handbook. How much you enjoy the job will depend on how much you enjoy teaching, and on the students you choose to tutor.

The students that I need to tutor are not available and it is extremely competitive to get a contract. There will be 60 people vying for the contract. I have had 0 hours of work so far. Only high school student contracts are available. No elementary students unfortunately so if you only want to teach up to grade 8, your out of luck. They also make you pay a ridiculous amount for a background check. I don't understand why I would pay that much, and have 0 hours of work. They also don't support you to find contracts. Why do they hire thousands of people when there is only like 2 contracts and that for high school students only??

I've been a Tutorax tutor for a few weeks now and I can't get a contract. If you teach English, regardless of grade, good luck getting work. I've applied for several tutoring opportunities so far but there are so many applicants I haven't even been chosen yet. I don't know if it's first come first serve or based on skills. Either way, it's been weeks and still nothing. I apply the second they're sent to my email too. I wouldn't bother with this job unless you have weeks to waste or have another job already.


What I appreciate the most about the job is the flexibility, especially as a college student. I also like the freedom to plan my own work hours and work independently with the parents to find availabilities that suit both parties. Usually at work, I will either help the children with their homework or bring work myself for us to work on them together, therefore I also get the possibility to clarify any confusing subjects. In my opinion, the hardest part of the job is building patience with more difficult children, but I do enjoy seeing them understand something that they previously didn't.  

it is a good place to work overall. the only problem is that it is very competitive. it is difficult to get a student to tutor because about 20+ tutors are applying to tutor that same student. i was mostly able to tutor students who needed a tutor that's a minor. not many tutors were minors so i had that to my advantage. 
above that, the pay is alright and the management is excellent too. 
what i personally like about tutorax is the management and customer service. 
there was a time i couldn't get any student so i emailed the person in charge and i was given a student right away. 

I got hired around a month ago and have been constantly applying to jobs and yet I cannot get a single student. It makes sense that there aren't many students during the summer but I thought after a month I would get at least one. It is unfortunate that the tutor to student ratio isn't ideal as there are around 30-40 applicants for a single job posting. The best part of this job is being able to choose your hours, but when you can't even get a student, it isn't really worth.
