UBCO

Generally I did not find UBCO as a professional place to make a path toward your future career. Being a grad student is like being employed with the minimum possible wage to survive. Universities should be a way of growth and advance toward your career. I did not see this in UBCO. Without TAs and side jobs wage is not sufficient at all. 
Generally, your prof decides everything and you don't expect any help the university. Basically if you suffer from your prof you should just suffer and don't compliant is this is not gonna go anywhere and would result in losing your jobs. I have seen so many miserable students continuing under unfair profs because they are scared of their status in Canada. 
I don't recommend studying here. I did not get much take over from it.

Great work place culture, Supportive staff, Managers are very understanding, Beautiful campus, Great instructors, Relaxed environment, Flexible hours. My position is home office based, which is very convenient. Deadlines are fair and realistic. 

I was working typically on my own although my coworkers were very friendly and helpful. I loved being in the library as a change of pace from my previous jobs although I found the time went by slowly as well because of the slow and quiet atmosphere. I learned a lot of computer troubleshooting skills as well as furthering my people skills as I would often deal with distraught, stressed students under deadline.

I worked here as a student with the student experience office and I had an amazing time. I learnt so many new skills and the office was so supportive of my journey and also understood my schedule as a student. I really would encourage being a student staff as it helps build professional skills as you are studying!

The professor who guided me was having good knowledge and was able to help me in all respects. 

However, to manage a better learning I took as less help as I could so that in researching the problem I could go even deeper.

I worked within a great team, but there is a horribly toxic culture that permeates this institution. So much politics and drama. Strong work ethic is rewarded with more work. The "lifers" coast by, while there's high turnover and burnout amongst entry level staff.  Leadership is completely out of touch with reality. 

would recommend not working here if you're in your 20s +. Definitely a degrading job in my personal opinion.  Easy work though if thats your kind of lifestyle and don't mind being surrounded by a bunch of mid-aged adults. 

Broadly speaking, a wonderful employer. Good comp package, great team, generally care about their people.

Higher ed is facing some challenges right now but that's not on UBCO specifically. Highly recommend working here if you are lucky enough to get the chance

the university seems to heavily rely on low-paid adjunct professors. The university was great to work at, but the pay to teach more courses than full-time employees was horrible. Basically the industry standard. 

I’ve worked 2.5 years with UBCO as a student worker and I’ve made amazing connections, have learnt so much and feel like I have made an impact. The pay is alright for a student position but the work can get monotonous
