I wouldn't recommend working at this place ever. They treat the local workforce terribly and will worship the ground the foreigners walk on. Hours are cut if you're a local, and always given to the foreigners. The management is shady. If you live in staff accommodation - their workforce coordinator will allow himself access or into your room without knocking, using themaster key. No warning, Claiming to see if 'you need anything' THe management only values those that are on the floor (most especially if you're a non-local) if you don't process fish you're told daily 'you don't make me any money, I can fire and replace you as quick as I hired you. ' They claim they are all about succession planning but in my year there there was no opportunity for going up. Poor Pay, Poor management and a big lack of development. If any company needs HR reps it's this place...it surprises me they can run this company like this. Hours are long with little reward. Not worth the time or energy. 


quiet days mostly...unfortunately during my time of employment here i was not given the opportunity to learn much more then one base position and unable to advance my knowledge in much more then that....i never was given the opportunity to communicate much with supervisors or higher ups...co-workers were awesome people i must say, a lot of them had been working there much longer than i had. the hardest part of working there was the inability to advance to other positions or learn of their management systems as i was not given the opportunity to do so. the best part of it all was that i was making some money to get by.

Days are long, especially if you travel the commuter / contract bus from Port Alberni, but the company does care about is employees; meals supplied at times through the week, especially when it s a long week(More than 5 days and on special occasions).
Management is fair and wages are now consistent among the group, in the past they were not, but still a little on the lower side for cost of living in area; company does offer low cost accommodations to the extent they have it to locals as well as Foreign workers...

i very much enjoyed working for uhs but im in need of a change to try something new  i been working for the company for 14 years and its long days very little sleep  but i always gave it 200% when i would work if i was asked to go back i would do so cause i very much enjoyed my job its 1,5 hours to get to work everyday  its a seasonal job

Long thankless days, very unorganized, crazy forklift drivers, not very safe work environment and the management is extremely wishy washy on just about every aspect of the facility.

it is indeed a fast paced work environment, and can be non-stop (which makes the time seem to fly by). being in a fish plant, it can get cold, so need to wear appropriate clothing. Also need to pack a good lunch.

Not a place i would reccomend, long travel, long days and pay is not what is advertised. Injuries go unacknowledged, if injured on the job the chances of being covered are nil as the manager staff will take their time submitting documents, not worth getting injured for.

A work shift is 12 hours work is 4 days on 3 days.
i learned to use the scale , grade fish species 
Pump off-load fishing vessels. managements is great.
co-workers are easy to get along with.
hardest part of the job is standing still for 12 hours .
not a really enjoyable job .

Bad management. Poor morale. Greedy U.S. based company. Office is always fkn up your paychecks....in their favour of coarse. Haphazzard training. Pseudo safety enviroment. Blame game. Weak managers

Uhs, is a bad company to work for! No benefits! No advancing. No support staff. Foreign workers get hours more than locals. People that have been there for 11 years haven’t gotten a raise in 7 yrs.
