ULTRACUTS

Ultracuts is a wonderful place for a new hairdresser just coming into the industry.  Ultracuts will teach you the basics, support your learning and groom you for higher end services.  

Most of your day will be hair cutting.  Some weeks you may also see perms, sets and colors but they are few and far between.  The more popular you are with the clients, the more higher end services you will do.  

They have good education and a wonderful support system.  The managers are fair and walkins are handled in rotation.  You will learn a lot working here.  Management does not allow you to wiggle out of services.  When it is your turm, you take whatever comes in.  If you are not a confident cutter you will become one.

They have basic medical, dental and eye benefits and are very good about giving days off and rotating Sundays and civic holidays.  

The negatives are that if there are no clients, you will probably get sent home before the scheduled end of your shift so even though you have to be available for your scheduled shift, unless its Christmas, you probably won't be working many 8 hour days.  

The good news is that you get on commission quick and so as long as you are doing 10 cuts a day you are clearing minimum wage for 8 hours.  

When you get your red seal - unlike some companies that will cut your base pay - they give you an hourly raise and boost your commission, so staying with the company for a few years is only going benefit you.

Unfortunately, their commission rates only go to 45%, so Ultracuts is not a good fit for a stylist with a solid clientele.  Most salons will go to at least 50%. 

The Christmas parties are wonderful and they give away a ton of free silent auction baskets.  It's a fun company and the employees are fun people.  The salons are pretty close but used to turnovers in staff so are great with newbies.   You will fit in pretty quickly and find staff open to socializing outside of work.  I definitely recommend Ultracuts to new stylists.

The pay is awful compared to other cosmetic franchises, the benefits are next to nothing, there are no commission raises and it's all based off walk-ins so you never know how many clients you'll have. The managers barely know what's going on half the time and there is no consistency. There's no additional education offered unless you count a 1 hour class you observe an actual learning experience. Over all a bad experience and poorly run by people who know nothing about hair and just want money. 

Love working here with the economy hare to keep busy but worth working here open up many opportunities and help me to attain a great future and made many great friends enjoyed every one I have worked with over the years the company tried  to help keep all employed made me proud to work for this company and continue to work in the future just looking for a supplementary job because we are slowing and if we close I will have a back up

I really liked working at Ultracuts. I worked at the south pemb. location, and I barely sat down. if at all. coworkers were a dream. Management was pretty awesome  too. Felt comfortable there from the start. Great place to work if you like to be busy and make money...

they do not follow the rules for apprenticeship and will leave you alone for hours with no journey person on shift... they didnt teach you much of anything,

Great place to work, good work/life balance, competitive wages, steady work, & great management team. Very accommodating to staff that want more hours & are willing to travel to different locations!

This is a great place to work with a great environment. a very supportive team would be there to greet everyone with smiles everyday which made it easy to be there.

Lots of learning opportunities if your willing to learn and put in the work very fast pace lots of walking very flexible with the hours you wanna work with wage is good 

Don’t waste your time great clips don’t support their staff, the training isn’t there. The pay sucks the tips are t there either. 
Management is never around
