You are expected to know everything, even things that facility/admin manager(s) don’t know& you were never trained on (& the trainer didn’t know either!). They’ll make up policies on you just to get you in trouble and don’t expect your boss to “support” you like they throw around during the interview, you will be thrown right under the bus!!!
It’s pretty crazy for a company of over 30 years to still be struggling to tell an employee the sick days/ personal days policies (in which I was fired for…..)
Instead of figuring it out like the management team they should have been, they put the onus and blame on me.
You’ll never have a break as you dont have an office so everyone is always asking you for help and expects you to help regardless of if ur mouth is stuffed with food. 
    There is no work to home life balance and no matter what they say they do NOT care about your health! They will tell you take the day to rest and feel better then call you 3 hours later and fire you! If you have mental health or physical illnesses do not apply here, they don’t have the “tolerance” for people like us. 

Oh and don’t expect any respect from Uppers they make it know you are below them and you feel that everything you’re in their presence

The company from the outside in looks amazing but all in all it’s a non for profit so don’t expect much. I was looking forward to having the chance to grow with this company but as the walls began to unravel it’s just a building filled with stress. 
Everyone everyday is stressed out and over worked. 



Its a great work environment as the employees have a strong bond of friendship and understanding among themselves, good benefit package and decent wage structure compared to similar positions around town. If you enjoy helping people this would suit you very well.

The only drawback to this organization is the management, its run by a few top level staff who selects who could rise up to the company and who should stay in the bottom, there is a huge problem of favoritism which rewards employees who make those top management happy constantly so they could themselves rise up the ladder. Management also encourages punishment by writing up the employees or taking away certain duties away. There is a large turnover due to this reason, so I would recommend this company for someone who is looking for a temporary work while trying to get in somewhere better as this would be an awful work place to work in the long run.

What is the best part of working at the company?
The staff are lovely to work with. I love dealing with client/ individual and making difference in their life.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
It was during pandemic when majority of the staff got sick and we need to work extended work hours, 6days a week.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
We foster family spirit especially working with our clients. As employee we support each other and the company provide Good trainings.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Running activities for the clients, medications administration, driving around the city to foster community inclusion for individualuals.

The wages are conservative - it's a non-profit, but it's comparable to other agencies. It balances out with decent benefits. There are opportunities for growth if you want it. Management is okay - each one brings their unique approach and perspective to a team. There are tons of programs, so you can always apply for a new place if you don't mesh with your supervisor. 
Work-Life balance will depend on if you have/maintain boundaries with your team and supervisors. With so many programs, each has it's unique culture based off the clients in that program, and the overall agency culture has improved over the years.
The best part about the job is that you can be paid to have fun as long as you're willing to plan fun activities for your clients and you participate in them.

The organization has a lot of veteran staff and there is not much room for any advancement. The benefits are ok if you have a family and need benefits, they do not cover glasses prescriptions or eye appointments. (Just remember your paying for the benefits each month off your pay) The culture and values are sub-par. If your interested in 'volunteering' as well as working, then get ready for the mandatory obligations of volunteering! There seems to be a lot of bullying in management that is rather toxic.

URSA is a good place to work. They take care of their staffs. I have worked with URSA as a regular staff ,but as awake overnight staff ,i have great team work with the other staff and the management. I learnt to work with people with various diversity, learnt alot about  work ethics, learnt how to work with our individual and staff.

Working in URSA is such a great honour and a responsibility. Honour because I am working with the employer of choice in Canada and respectable non profit organization in Canada. Responsibility because you are taking care of each and every individual with disability it is  an expectation for us to maintain the high quality standards of care to all of our clients.

I worked at URSA for 10 years. At first it was great; supportive team,  fun, and very good mentorship. The last four years their expectations became very high, the communication  from upper management became trearable.  They are out dated and justify it by saying it how we done it in the past. Worst of all you make a mistake and you hold it against you. Not a very good place.

Senior management, is not the best team to work with. Good training opportunities. Too much paperwork and too much expectations and very little time in a day to complete assignments. No appreciation. 

URSA has an amazing team. The individuals in service will change your life they smile and have fun. There is a supportive environment that will help guide you through the day. Your training is amazing. The work culture is inclusive and engaging.
