As a member of the United States Navy Seabees work is always full of a sense of pride and accomplishment. No task was ever the same and goal was to high for a group of like minded individuals working as a group to accomplish. One such task was to complete a 1500 foot well at our job site on the kabul international airport Afghanistan. As the crew leader it was my task to set the days work and manage 12 individuals to complete this demanding task. With many different variables and obstacles  in the way our team successfully completed our task and the well now provides 60,000 gallons of fresh water a day to our troops and the Afghanistan national army. I learned many things while serving which includes but not limited to, numerous pieces of heavy equipment ie. back hoes, front end loaders, dozers, scrapers, ect. working with engineers to plan and estimate jobs from ground level up. I have received both the navel enlisted code 5915 (planning and estimating specialist) and 5710 (equipment operator advanced) certifications while in my enlisted time with the Navy. The management style was very strict but also accommodating. I have had the privilege to serve with some of the greatest leaders and have been mentored by them. the hardest part of this job is being away from my family. I have served two tours in Afghanistan spending nearly two years away from home. However  the missions i have helped complete have made the local Afghans life better with the simple things like running water. That has bettered the life of the community and the quality of life and for that my time was well spent!

Performed intermediate and depot level maintenance on metallic and composite aircraft components, assembled aircraft wheel assemble, performed hydraulics systems contamination analysis, Performed maintenance and inspections of various types of aircraft servicing equipment. Corrosion control technician with knowledge and implementation of methods, techniques, and procedures used in the detection, identification, treatments, and prevention of aircraft corrosion, including media blast, the application of paints, preservatives, and sealants.

Implementation of proper storage and waste disposal of hazardous material in accordance with EPA regulations, Utilization of database user interface and query software, facilitates knowledge of management software and maintenance instruction manuals and blueprints.

 Possess strong working knowledge of the Naval Aviation Maintenance Program, Lean, And Six Sigma theories and principles of continuous product improvement and cost reduction methods.

Currently a typical day at work consists of the management of 23 personnel/junior service members and daily tasking. At times training requirements are needed that they will attend to develop professional knowledge, and or military bearing. At times I am required to write evaluations on my junior troops so they know where they are ranked and can stay competitive amongst their piers. 
During my service I have learned how to be versitile and disciplined. I have developed many skills and professional knowledge as mentioned prior with OSHA. I have been certified for different welding procedures as well. I have worked. 
Being a military member the hardest part of my job would be having to spend lagre amounts of time away from my family. The most enjoyable part of my job is to teach and develop junior personell to enhance their skills while on job sites as well as administratively as to enhance their careers.

With the exception of a few really stressful days, my 20 years in the IT field in the Navy were extraordinary. The hours were long and busy, but the time off made it well worth it. My superiors, both officer and enlisted, were stellar mentors and managers, and most of them genuinely cared about their junior Sailors' advancement and career paths. Over the years and in various duty stations, there is always the boss that should never be in charge of anyone, but they're the exception. If you want to succeed, you learn to adapt and overcome challenges and obstacles. 

My retirement pay takes care of my mortgage and living expenses; without it, I'd never have been able to buy my own home. 
If you join with the mindset that you're going to stay 20 years no matter how hard it is, you'll be justly rewarded. I highly recommend a career in the military, particularly the Navy!

Working as an Information Systems Technician in the U.S. Navy post-9/11 was a pivotal and challenging experience. The heightened focus on national security transformed the role into a critical one. The urgency to enhance communication systems and cybersecurity measures was palpable. The camaraderie among IT personnel was essential as we navigated through evolving technologies and adapted to new protocols. The sense of duty and dedication to the nation's defense were at the forefront. While the workload intensified, there was a shared commitment to contributing to a safer and more resilient military infrastructure. The experience was both demanding and rewarding, leaving an indelible mark on those who served during this era.

I was an aviation electronics technician. I first mustered up our shop department and went over what planes in our aviation wing needed serviceing and routine class inspections so the pilots were ready to fly missions and aircrafts on a daily mutible run day. serviced all electronic cards, and did internal wiring to service birds. Worked in one of the most dangerous enviroments in the world during all types of pressure and stress and performed on a Aplus level to adapt and overcome to the situation at hand safely professionaly and correctly.

The typical work day is similar to any other job in construction, but deployments require full theater immersion. I learned how to manage stress as well as converge with multi-cultural coworkers. Management is always qualified, motivation is up to the individual. Americas Navy Seebees are a tight knit swarm of workers. The hardest part is leaving everything you love to face the potentially unknown. The best part of the job is knowing that you are not alone and that someone will always be ready to back you up.

I had a great time in the military I am from a family which has a firm belief in military service. I learned alot about who I am and what I made of during my time with the Navy. Ive been around the world and seen life through many filters and I am proud to be an American. This was the best decision I could have made as a young man. I was on a road to trouble so in a way shipping out saved me and taught me what it is to be an honorable man.

Don't be fooled by the recruiter. They own you and that's that. The pay is good enough and the benefits aren't matched very well in the private sector. If your onboard a ship and working outside of engineering you might be able to have a life. If you work in engineering you will not have a life. Nor will the crew appreciate what you do to make their life underway enjoyable. You will get more done by 0800 than the rest of the crew will do all day. Nature of the beast. Don't join as an engineer if you can avoid it.

The Navy demands a lot from their sailors. Becoming an enlisted sailor or an officer is a lifestyle choice and shouldn’t be underestimated. The Navy has a tendency to chew up excited and hard working sailors and spit out a shell of their former selves. Being a woman in the Navy (or any branch of the military) is especially hazardous. It’s definitely not a job for everybody.
