- salary and pay are garbage, USG is easily the lowest paying company. Many workers haven't received a raise in years as there was a "pay freeze" for the past few years.
- Job security and advancements are swung out the window, many technicians are laid off due to lack of work. What advancements?? USG will hire outside the company first and this has always been their way.
- Management is a joke, you either got to be "one of the boys" or else you are taking the fall for one of them if things go sour.
- Job work/life balance is okay most technician have a steady schedule, unless your out of town, which depends on the client's needs. 
- Workplace culture is horrible, USG's core values have been lost. The whole environment is crazy as some office staff treat the technicians like we are diseased and worthless. 


Pay is decent. The work itself is fairly simple, and can be fun. Fast paced environment, one can learn quick without previous experience. Most of the techs are very knowledgeable and helpful, great to work with. 

BUT, Watch out for management and some foremen, who like to micromanage, steal tools and equipment from other trades, and blame all mistakes on the new guys (while taking credit for their successes). 

Work culture: Typical “do what I say, not what I do” attitude, even at the expense of safety. They will readily disregard their own company policies if it doesn’t suit them in the moment.

Good for the short term, but I wouldn’t recommend starting a career with this company. Stick around long enough to learn some things and then take your experience elsewhere.

Typical day is fast paced work environment. 
I have learned life skills that have snowballed into a lot more than just telecommunications as well as how to manage and complete tasks.
Management has a high standard of expectations and technicians need to be self motivated and always willing to stay one step ahead . The workplace is what you make it as different jobs and the people on site create the atmosphere .
The hardest part of the job would be staying organized and filtering out the negativity  . The most enjoyable pet of the Job would be completing a job after being overwhelmed before moving to the next thing 

Unified is a company that has been around for some time and has always done business in a certain manner. They are growing and continuing to build on their already established reputation.

That being said their employee retention is ultiumately very poor. Ive been told by the VP himself that they are in the business of hiring skilled labor not cheap.

But after two years with the company  a person of my experience and skill craft has made very little head way. I have been under utilized and been left with the feeling of being marginalized.

This is a great place to work to get loads of experience quickly. There are company politics and nepotism but you see that at every other company as well. If you are good at your job you are treated fairly. If you are working up north, work hard, save your money and get a real job. If you are working in the cities work hard, learn, be pleasant and you will get advancement opportunities. This is based on my experience.

The Calgary office is horrible to work at. Everyone has issues with everyone else and nothing is done about it. A couple managers micro manage beyond anything I have ever seen. No room for advancement. There is huge favouritism. The wages are very poor. Unless you're "one of the guys" you are on the outside.

Poor management, no reviews and PM’s are terrible. No schedule so you don’t know if your working from one day to the next. Over half the techs and PMs quit with in a few weeks of each other that shows you what a poor company it is. There can’t get techs to work for them as there reputation is so bad!

Bunch of very unhappy men, away fro their families, living in a company house.  After expenses, pay is actually just fair.  This is not a sustainable work situation for long periods of time.

Multicultural company with growth potential. Management is willing to educate it's technicians if they show good potential. Employees are for the most part friendly and helpful even though they are spread throughout the province.
