It's a very flexible workplace, allows complete on-site, hybrid  or remote work. Whatever you choose is best for you. I was lucky to be in a very international lab, so the workplace culture was very inclusive and diverse. But I cannot say the same for the rest of the department or university.

It's a very unfriendly place for graduate students. We are expected to pay our tuition before we get paid our scholarships. Financial services is slow, it can take up to 2 months to be paid. Given that graduate degree scholarships are low already, this is a horrible thing to do to the poor students who are carrying out the ground work of academia. As an international student you are also required to pay for your own health insurance, which is a substantial portion of your scholarship (~$1000/yr). You will either have to get a part-time job on the side, have parents that support you or live in poverty.

Having done my BSc, and MSc at different universities I can also say that the program they offer is not particularly helpful in advancing your skills for either academia or the job market, securing a job after graduation or help you with career decisions.

UQAM is one of the youngest universities in Canada, dating back to the 1960s. As such, it does not benefit from a rich alumni community or a strong international reputation. This makes the recruitment process of strong students difficult, and may compromise one's ability to establish a strong research program due to the lack of human resources to do so.

The Union is strong and protects all of its professors, which unfortunately translates into many faculty being underproductive: little to no research.

Depending on your field of expertise, the pay can exceed or not your market value. Professors in Quantitative/Business fields are often underpaid, which impacts the university's ability to recruit strong candidates.

When i received the exams, i would pass around 2 weeks correcting them. She gave me a correction grid to help situate my answers also. I've had to precisely correct the exams, or students would complain; that was the harshest part of the job but sometimes, you would find mistake that you usually did in the past. That was one of the most enjoyable moment, because you consider what you've learned up until then. During my work time, I had to keep a close communication with the teacher of the course, for beeing able to correct accordingly the exams to the teacher correction grid. The grid was unclear on how to correct some answers, so I needed to use my judgement on how to correct the exams. I've had two class to correct at the same time, so around 120 exams; yes, I was taking pressure.

I worked for UQÀM as a student employee, which means that my work experience depended a lot more on the professors I worked for than on the higher-ups. However, the university's administration is absolutely incompetent in treating all of its employees with respect. At one time during the past years, the professors' union, the student employees' union, and the support personnel's union were all on strike. This affected both the professors I worked for and myself.

Advantages include 4 week vacations the first year + lots of paid sick days, almost 2 weeks off at the holidays. Once you are permanent, you are shielded from everything, nothing can take it away from you. That's why lots of your colleagues will be lazy or really slow, because the union is VERY strong there, so you can be the worst employee and still keep your job. 

Most of the positions are repetitive work.

As A teacher, I had to define the content of the course, the tests, the exams. I also had to do all the validation and correction of exams and session group works. Will be discussed during interview if required.

•	My main contribution is the developing of new approaches to grammar teaching.
•	One of the most difficult and time consuming task at wor is the writing and the editions of papers.

Accountable for the preparation of pedagogical university level course materials and tutoring of students in alignment with the methods and procedures used, as well as exam preparation and supervision.

There are not many funds, so if you work as a research assistant at UQAM, your income is very low. If you already have a job, UQAM is a good place to study part-time as a graduate student and doing research.
