University Settlement

I did translation, tax return, filling out various application forms for clients who doesn't speak and write English. Many days of work that I have learned how to determine clients' indeed needs and sensitive on certain topic that they would rise up. The Settlement program is organized. I often help my supervisor putting up files in place in order to get the files for clients in a efficiency way. The co-workers are nice and decent. They are always client-centred and focus on helping clients to achieve their specific needs.The hardest part of the job was doing tax return. Some family has complicated situation that require placement students to concentrate and be careful when doing tax return for them. We are responsible for any mistake that we made and should deliver the best service to our clients. The most enjoyable part of the job was being a computer class tutor. As I'm still volunteering at this agency as a computer tutor. I build bonds with all my students and strongly improved my computer and language skills.

a typical workday included signing clients up for a bed, handing them them care kits, providing them with dinner and breakfast and making sure everyone of them is safe, and following the rules and regulations.the job taught me to manage and prevent crisis. 
my supervisor and manager had a great system in place for i and my co workers to make our jobs easier, the hardest part of the job was satisfying all clients at once since they all had different needs, and the best part is seeing a satisfied client, since it is hard to come by.

Working in this environment requires you to be very active, and the ability to work alone without supervision 95% of the time.  A lot of duties and responsibilities not enough pay.  No room for advancement, management was few and scarce.  Culture was a mixture of ethnicity.  Overall it was still a nice place to work.  Located in the downtown area.

I like it here. People are nice and easy to approach.  I love children so this place is great. However, sometimes some teachers don’t give direct instructions so we as volunteers just see what we can do and help out when they are doing something. Overall, environment is nice but teachers need to give more instructions to us or else we will just stand there awkwardly.

Well intentioned program with some terrific staff and some exceptional managers. Overall, morale is low due to cutbacks that are driven by government policy not agency desires. Could use a shake-up in work culture for some employee's who take 'casual' employment to mean 'no effort'.

Assisted clients in completing immigration applications and filed cases directly with the Immigration and Refugee Board of Canada
Liaised between client and lawyers, scheduled and organized appointments, hearings and court dates
Delivered and picked packages and parcels when required

Pay is ok in comparison to average for part-time. Average to low pay for full-timers

This multiservice non-profit has a lot going for it and a lot of committed staff. However, due to its size the opportunities are limited as are the salaries. As a young manager, it's a great place to develop, although there may be limited guidance which has its pros and cons.

Part of a job that I enjoy most is meet and greet, dealing with paper- work, filling paper-work, asking customer for proper ID, initial interview, responsible all time when customer attend, manage is being held by manager while manager busy...

Conducting a brief program assessment for a Newcomer program.  Receiving great support from ED, staff and participants in the program are amazing to work with.  Learning a lot about research assessment and logic models.
