I have already described a typical day at work as the Manager of Building Maintenance.

I have learned that keeping our customers (Faculties / Departments) updated and informed on maintenance related activities is essential and allowing them not only an insight on what work is scheduled but allow their input and have them buy into the project from beginning to end.  

The Facilities Department believes on empowering people to perform their work.  Therefore I have the responsibility and authority to manage my department in my management style and capabilities.  Very rewarding. 

My colleagues are professionals and perform as such within their own field of expertise.  They are fun loving, caring, understanding, believe in collaboration and just a great group of people.   

Probably the most difficult part of my job is seeing a project completed as scheduled when dealing with general contractors and sub-trades as we are known to provide very short time lines on projects so as not to interfere with class schedules and inconveniences to faculty, staff, students and visitors at the University.

The most enjoyable part of my job is seeing my staff highly motivated, perform the impossible, show pride in their work and proud of their accomplishments.

I need to work with my supervisor. Usually, she will have a schedule for the following months. I will make a schedule monthly for the main project. Then I will bring it down to weeks. 

My daily routine is to check the email and answer the clients inquiry first. After this, I will identify if there is any emergent situation to deal with and try to prioritize my tasks.

In this job, I am in charged with the student awards program and I have to deal with workers at different departments. They are all very cooperative and very efficient, which makes my work easier.

Besides, I get a lot of support from my supervisor such as training and work ethic. It feels great to have an encouraging and professional supervisor.

Another enjoyable part of the job is that the working environment is very friendly. We will celebrate birthdays for coworkers born in the same month. Isn't that amazing?

I have learned how to analyze data better and be more confident. Most importantly, I've found my passion of becoming an accounting professional.

Context:
It was a research project. I was hand-picked by my prof for the role. I only really interacted with my professor throughout the contract.

Typical day:
I would have to keep track of my hours in a spreadsheet. My activities consisted of developing the project directly, researching aspects of the project, or meeting with my professor to assess the quality of my work and set goals.

What I believe I learned:
Immensely valuable hard and soft skills. 

Management:
I was largely responsible for managing myself, however as previously stated, I periodically received guidance from my professor.

WP culture:
My prof  is a super cool guy. I would absolutely work for him again. I can't speak on the university as a whole.

Hardest part:
Scrambling to develop the specific skills to be productive on the project within the timeframe of my contract. My prof knew I wouldn't be ready right away, but I spent a lot of my own time researching and learning the tools I was using.

Most enjoyable part:
Being paid to do something that didn't even feel like work. It felt more like working on a personal project with a buddy.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
The lack of desire to work meaningfully 

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Requires a need to prioritize superficial interactions over meaningful ones. Very conflict averse resulting in a lack of change or work being completed. Very hierarchical, your voice or actions are often irrelevant if not benefiting higher managements opinions/views  

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Often not a lot of work required to be done. A majority of time is spent have office chat and you have to create a lot of work on your own. Low expectations on what is to be done so quite low stress

Professors at the University of Lethbridge go beyond the minimum requirements when they grade papers. This is reflected in the high standing the university has reached as an undergraduate university. As a graduate student TA much of my time is spent tutoring under graduate students in how to write a paper, a thesis statement, a paper outline and how to use the citation guide. 
Other job duties include marking papers. 
Professiors communicate their expectations well for the TA work they reqire from gradute students, and the small group of co-workers make it easy to connect with TAs from your own and other departments.

I worked at the University of Lethbridge hockey and basketball games, facilitating in game promotions and running the uoflpronghorns instagram story throughout the games. It was fun, exciting and something that was perfect for my schedule, being a university student. My manager is always encouraging. She always gives criticism in a constructive manner. The most challenging part of the job was that there are so many things happening at the same time at the game, that you have to be on top of things to make everything happen as it should. I enjoy the environment at the games, as sporting events are so full of energy.

The University of Lethbridge is an excellent place to study and to work.  It is a fully multicultural environment to work, but at the same time, it is possible to have the perception that you are surrounded by a typical Canadian environment, given the values of respect and inclusion that can be found at the level of all the departments and section of the university.

What is the best part of working at the company?
If you do your work, they treat you good it is just very hard to get on full time and they take advantage of younger people and keep them until just before the probation is up and the union is very weak in assisting you.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Cleaning can be gross at times...people!

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Very cold and clinical, the manager is about budget more than people.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Hard work okay  benefits and if you do your work well you can get ahead.

You almost always need to know someone in the university just to work at the U of L. You can have all the qualifications you need but the hiring manager will always choose their friends kid or their cousin. Most facilities employees are underpaid due to the higher ups giving themselves raises. At least the benefits are good. Good luck getting a raise though. There is a union but it's next to useless, it hasn't secured an impactful wage increase for its union members in years, but ya still gotta pay union dues.

The university is a fun place to work that is close to my house and is easy to access. Also, the University works around my class schedule, so I am able to work while I am attending class. The job is not difficult, but it does get busy during the changing and beginnings of the semesters. I am learning how to communicate with people and help them get what they need for their classes. The most enjoyable part of my job is, talking and helping out the customers in order for them to receive the items that they require to get through their days and semesters.
