My experience led me to conclude that UTP does not consistently uphold its stated code of conduct. Attempts to seek support resulted in further distress, including perceived intimidation from the hiring manager during the termination process and inappropriate phone communications that involved intrusive questions about my personal background, including religion.
I also witnessed and experienced conduct that I found dehumanizing, such as body shaming, invasive questions about personal matters, and observing other staff members being treated in a similarly concerning manner.
The most difficult aspect was the termination process itself. I was informed that I “did not fit in,” despite receiving positive feedback from floor management and coworkers. This was preceded by repeated threats and followed by my attempt to seek clarification from Human Resources, where I felt my concerns were met with disrespect, condescension, and unsupported allegations.
I hope that future interactions with the organization, including routine matters such as collecting textbooks, can occur without further negative experiences.

If I could give this place less than 1 stars, I would.

The only thing I learned from this place is how awful people truly are. When I was there, the people were very petulant, lazy, undeserving and very rude. They constantly proved how lazy and petulant millennials are, and gave hardworking people a very bad name. The people who you thought were your friends didn't stick up for you, so you're made to feel very alone.

Even other people in other departments were very rude, gaslighting and didn't give a darn. Management would blame me for things I didn't even do, and would subject me to stressful work while others continued to be lazy.

To those people who were rude and terrible, know that what goes around, comes around. if you value your self-respect, stay away from this place at all costs. 

Everyday can be different as customers change.  There is always something new as the semesters change, and the students also change which mean different requests to manage.  I have definitely learned how to communicate better with students as the majority of our staff are university students and often don't know what to do.  Orders need to be counted, product needs to be transferred and PO's need to be created.  The most enjoyable part of the job is when analysis needs to be done on a category to look to ways to improve profitability or sales.  The most difficult part of the job is usually in September when the sales are high and product comes in faster than we can find space for it.

First off, the University of Toronto Bookstore is not owned or operated by University of Toronto, therefore the pay is very bad, the salaried/managerial jobs pay far below industry standard. 
Work culture at the bookstore is warped, there is a lot of Senior Manager indecisiveness, micro management and lack of trust in the ability of the floor sales team. There is also a tremendous amount of toxicity (starting at the top and it trickles down into daily bookstore life).
The only perk of working at UofT Bookstore (managerial role only) is the fact that you get UofT perks such as benefits and pension however you soon realize that your mental health and work life balance far exceed the value of the aforementioned “perks.”
Run, don’t walk away from working at the University of Toronto Bookstore. You’ve been warned.


The store doesn't have AC so poor air circulation and I feel like I could faint anytime during summer time. Poor communication and management, I was working without a fob for one month and fob is a necessary for employees to get access to every doors. I gave them my availability when I start working there, the senior manager NEVER reply my email which is super rude and they keep schedule me on the days that I can't work. Don't understand why she become senior manager. 

People are nice but I won't try to make friends there since everyone has their own business to do. Recommend being a cashier because you don't have to walk around all the time and it's quite chill since you just have to stand their doing your own stuff. 

I sold computers to university students and institutional departments, hospitals etc. Invoicing was the most stressful to match payments with accounting department. Some products would be out of stock on special orders, so it was difficult to give someone a ETA when there order would be coming in.  Staff pay was monthly which would be  stressful for people paying bills on a biweekly basis.  Pension plan was good and also benefits. 

Work is easy and does not require specialized skills. Overtime it can get tedious and repetitive. If you are a male worker, be prepared to lift heavy boxes and bins on a consistent basis. Depending on where you are in the warehouse, you may have difficulty with proper lifting ergonomics leading to possible overuse/chronic injuries (Areas can be crowded and tight). Wages are low, there are no benefits, and expect union fees. Good option as a first job and for students as the hours can be flexible. 

The pay was a bit above minimum wage since it is a unionized job. Would have been a great long-term job for uoft students as it is right on campus. However, there were very few hours, and management often scheduled the wrong hours. 
The work itself was pretty easy but sometimes there'd be no tasks assigned, and other times there would be too many. 
Overall, it was an unreliable and unpredictable job that created more stress than necessary due to poor management.

This company has been around for more than 100 years and even though we go through changes to make employees more efficient in their job by getting new software and computers and scanners etc. we still have our share of problems with servers not working and time being wasted. Also our pay is only once a month which is why I am looking for another career opportunity.

The senior staff were usually considerate. The hours were flexible. Nice coworkers. The job was really easy. Mostly cashing out customers and restocking the shelves. The systems were a little outdated but it wasn’t really a problem. The training is very minimal and you mostly have to figure it out as you go by yourself but the coworkers I had were really helpful whenever anyone needed help.
