I read the last couple of reviews and I have to say they do not fit with my experience there at all so I had to write a review. The experience and training provided was amazing! The Supervisors have many years of experience and have worked front line, so they know the job and are able to give you lots of guidance on how to manage certain situations. They have staff appreciation events and super fun staff retreat days to show you they are grateful for all of your hard work. The shift work can be difficult, but its a part of what to expect if you want to work in this industry. And working weekends? You have to put in your time and earn a different rotation. I know exactly what type of employee they were who wrote the previous reviews - the ones who want to work 8-4 Monday to Friday, never work a weekend or a stat holiday, and expect managers to come in and do their job for them. It's a very busy environment, so you have to take some initiative to look up information about certain disorders or possible interventions, etc if you don't have that information. Don't wait until a team meeting or a training - take responsibility for your shifts and your performance. Help to build your capacity yourself, and seek out your supervisor to help you with this. I have always found them to be very supportive. Those that think the schedule was unfair obviously have no concept of what seniority and yrs experience means. You earn those rotations on the schedule. If you want to learn a lot about this industry, this is the right agency for you! Their Supervisors are amazing and will teach you so much about treatment, writing service plans, and working with difficult kids. And most of my team members were fantastic. There will always be a few entitled complainers who only want to do the bare minimum, and need validation every 5 minutes. But the majority of people I worked with are now life long friends.

The nature of this work is extremely stressful, but if you can get past that, this has potential to be an amazing job.  For the first few weeks I genuinely loved the position, but then once I had the basics of the job it became extremely stressful.  The biggest issue with the job is that they are so chronically short staffed that you as employees are left in stressful and unsafe situations alone to handle things without the necessary training to actually handle the situations, as a lot of the necessary trainings do not happen within the initial 10 day training period.  You have to read a giant policy and procedure manual which in no way prepares you for the situations that may come up, and are told by supervisors “call on-call if anything goes wrong” which does not help you in the case of a true emergency.  I ended up stepping down from the position a month and a half in as an extremely unsafe situation came up, and when I spoke with my supervisor about it and told them I was no longer willing to work alone for safety reasons was told that there was nothing that could be done for me due to staffing, which on one hand I understand is not entirely their fault, on the other hand if they didn’t put staff in these sorts of situations they wouldn’t blow through staff so quickly.  Supervisors were understanding of my reasons, which I appreciated, but absolutely no effort was put in to keeping me as staff.  

While working here there is a 95% chance you’ll come in, start your day and find out you’re working alone. A typical day involves you keeping your eyes on all kids at all times, so if they leave the property you know what they’re wearing. You’re also expected to cook breakfast lunch and dinner for the kids, have 1:1 time with the kids, teach the kids, do the tasks the supervisor gives you randomly when she doesn’t feel like working on them anymore, AND fill out all paperwork required in a day which can range from 5 pages to 30 or more pages of paperwork depending on how the day goes. Try doing all of that alone basically on a daily basis
You get paid barely above minimum wage in a job where you’re expected to be a cook, maid, security guard and counsellor. 
I had no issues with the youth in the program, but the way the program is run and the management. Every staff member at the group home on the north end is currently trying to leave due to the conditions of the work environment. 
Please save yourself and do not apply here. It is the most stressful and unsafe job I have ever worked. 

Often expect to be working alone and filling the role of counsellor , cook and chauffer( if enough staff) . There is no time to furfill your own responsiblilities because you are so busy on the phone , writing reports or managing conflict. Also ,be cautious because you could be thrown under a train at any time. There is no personal space  for your own item storage and if you accumalate banked time , good luck getting it off because there is no extra staff to cover.There is a lack of support from the worn out managers and often their frustration are often taken out on staff. Oh yes, be on guard because you may be hurt by a youth and there is no area to protect yourself. Most toxic workplace ever , do not work here. Training offered, but quickly canceled because there is no staff to cover. The best was the staffing and getting the youth out when able to do . Many improvements needed to be able to secure staffing and to better meet their purpose. 

This is a very difficult and negative place to work. Management will place many expectations on you without guidance, support, or appreciation. You are expected to stay if the next staff does not show up. Worked many doubles without any "thanks". No debrief after crisis. On-call is supposed to help you during crisis but they only make matters worse. They don't know all the youth and their circumstances yet they force you into situations to "help" or tell you how to do things that further escalate the situation. 

If you decide to work here, you will have no life. And expect to be treated poorly. You will also leave with worse mental health then when you came.

I am new to the group care field but with being here for about a year I am already seeing advancement for myself in the Youth and Family Counsellor role. I like working somewhere that celebrates birthdays, staff meetings, constant trainings, supervision and staff holiday functions. Sometimes I come into the workplace with baked treats and depending on the time of the shift food is always covered for me. It makes school and working full-time less stressful having food costs covered. It is a demanding job and youth are at risk youth. Not easy to deal with but it has allowed me to grow in the area to help them. This job isn't for people who find psych fascinating but more so for people who like hands on work in the field.

Vantage has always been number one on my radar for an agency I would love to work for in the Human Services Field. When I got the opportunity to apply for a job opening as an Admin Support, I jumped at it because I knew just how awesome this agency is and I couldn't pass it up. Since being here, I have made wonderful friends with my colleagues (everyone seems to have the best sense of humour), I have been able to grow my skillset in ways I didn't expect but am very excited about, and I get the opportunity to work at a place that really cares about the clients and the work they are doing; Vantage as an agency is ever evolving, learning, and growing to ensure the quality of care and service is nothing short of excellent. I would 10/10 recommend working for Vantage. 

Working with the youth is very rewarding and it provides great entry level experience for social services. However, if you're looking for a healthy work environment and a good work life balance, this is not the place. The group homes are consistently understaffed. Expect to work alone with high risk youth and expect to be thrown to the wolves. Its a sink or swim situation. Respect between management and staff in non-existent. Management is over worked and probably underpaid and it shows. If you are thinking of applying, I suggest working as a casual employee. You still get the experience, but don't have to experience such a high level of toxicity in the work environment. 

This agency is incredibly negative. Staff come and go with no support or encouragement from management. Staff do not receive proper training and end up overwhelmed. Management speaks down to you regularly and makes you feel less than on a regular basis. I worked here for many months and never received a thank you for picking up countless overtime  shifts and never was given any positive feedback on my job performance. You really are just a warm body as they cant keep staff more than a couple months  eventhough staff attempts continuesly to speak their concerns to management. Constantly told "in my day, I worked with 6 youth on my own". No regard to staff safety and concern. Awful environment

Working at Vantage Community Services brought a lot of information and experience to me. Everyone there is super welcoming and amazing! Everyday I was given something new to do and Morgan always made sure I knew what to do with the information, she was super helpful and an amazing boss to have! The hardest part about my job was just trying to keep everything in check when it got into the Throwin it Back Golf Fundraiser season. I really loved being apart of this workplace and loved the experience and information I got from it. All of the employees were kind and always made me feel welcomed and helped me in any way I needed!
