Awful place to work. Currently employed, and there is little support from management. Supervisors don’t care if their employees are abused, or working in dangerous work conditions. No guaranteed hours, and you aren’t paid if a client cancels. Work elsewhere if you want a guaranteed paycheque. We are the only agency not getting the provincial wide $3 top up. If you want job security after mat leave, you will return back to ZERO hours/week. Their mileage allowance hasn’t changed in over 12 years, though gas has doubled. Office staff make over $130,000-200k if you’re interested in an office position. If you are in the field, you will be paid $16/hr. Accounting often makes mistakes, worth hundreds of dollars, that won’t be fixed for weeks to come.

As regards to my typical day of work, my routines are cleaning the apartment of the client and do some laundry.

What I learned from my job is the value of patience in adjusting to different types of personality of the clients.

The management is fair enough.

Felt  independence in the work place as I was doing my job alone. Each employee mind his/her own business.

If the client had demands which is not included in the job description and included in our limitations. Clients demand made me chose whether or not to give in to client's demand which will violate company policy. In these times, I always abide by company policy.

I was really happy to see that my clients appreciated and happy with my performance so much so that they requested the company that I will always be their homemaker.

You will almost always get time requested off but no wonder they give you that when the pay is 15.75$ an hour. For the amount of running around you do or commuting a long time on the bus to only be at a clients for an hour and walk away with 15$ minus taxes is horrible. Considering we do more tasks than a house cleaner (laundry, meal prep, etc) we might as well just work for a cleaning company like Mopify and make 25$ an hour. Clients have high expectations and can sometimes be really rude to you and it’s not worth it when you walk away with 30$.

Best clients to work with if you are someone who likes people, open minded and easy to follow instructions

Sometimes the clients are not in good mood and they might make you feel as if you’ve done something wrong

The work environment is great the culture is amazing

The whole team is incredible.

When most of the take vacation.

The workplace are safe and accessible and memmbers of the team are multicultural.

Now it's  an ordinary day. Seems like I'm inside of mynown home

A typical day at work is busy and productive. 
Learned so much about community connections, Health Systems Navigation, about Home and community care support services and Programs, Supportive housing, attending outreach programs. Personal choice independent living,  deeper  understanding of social services.

Management: excellent in inclusivity,  multiculturally oriented. 

Working Workday is more energetic and fun,I learned a lot from my work place dealing with my clients everyday be compassionate, more understanding, be a good listener. Manage there daily activities,. Dealing there attitude  and behavior with respect. No hardest part of job if you love to do it. The moment you see there smiles is the most happy moments. 

I appreciated the caring culture at VHA Ottawa.   I work in healthcare because I care too.  Lots of pay increases in the past few years, lots of opportunity to pick up shifts, but I decide what works for me and what doesn't.  

Appreciate the work-life balance.  

Typical work day included bathing, cleaning, cooking light meals and running some errands.  Also taking clients to appointments.  Met a lot of great clients and co-workers.  Very supportive supervisors and management.  Hardest part of the job is losing a client.

Management is very detached from what is actually happening to their staff. They rarely provide appropriate support. Constantly understaffed. Wages are not liveable, raises are non existent. Work life balance does not matter. Overall, I do not recommend.
