I worked specifically for the restaurant within the company. I find it interesting, for a unionized establishment. Everyone allows the managers to walk all over their rights, even when it comes to pay. Per the collective agreement in place with management and the union. Servers starting after 2017 are to be paid $14 an hour, but it is only 12.20 they give you. As a server there are days that you will make $3 literally, and others where you’re worked 10 hours without a break or meal and you make $30. Good tip days are few and far in between. Another reason they should be paying you provincial standard wage instead of server wage. The people there are nice, for the most part. But people are rather petty meaning it becomes a toxic work place fast. The restaurant manager is a good guy but keeps no control of his assistant managers, one sits there and doesn’t help you at all, and the other will point out all the little things you do incorrectly instead of encouraging you with the good things you do. She becomes petty if she doesn’t like you, and very obviously picks favourites and speaks to her staff very unprofessionally on a daily basis. The company overall has very racist vibes towards the aboriginal peoples who use their facilities that the company has agreements with. Especially when it pertains to the food vouchers or assuming that they won’t tip so they give them poor service making a uncool assumption based on someone’s skin pigment.

I was at this job for 7 years.

The job was okay to start and in the beginning as a 15 year old, it was energetic and fun. I got a long with management and the people. After 2 years I started realize the lack of shifts and turnover this workplace had. The Banquet Manager at the time, always emphasized teamwork. Thing is, nobody worked together unless you fit in with a certain culture. Kind of like highschool where nobody would talk to you unless you where part of some enthic group. Everybody likes to talk bad and put everybody else down.

Majority of the supervisors are incompetent. (Besides one individual). They usually just walk around and do nothing all. They don't enforce work, they just blab their mouth. I did report afew of the supervisors to management about their work habit, and my say had no impact. The manager flipped out on me asking a me a dumb question and in my head I decided that if this work place has not changed over this 7 year time span, I had to change.

As I have heard now that management finally has changed a bit but the same things still cycle around 


The Winnipeg location may have a seal of approval for one of the best employment rates,  but that's because smart people leave or they just can't take the harassment and being ignored any longer.

I pretty much summed up my experience. If you are desprite for a job, this place is only good for a year before you decide to leave. No amount of gratituities and benefits are worth a job to feel depressed.

My time at this location was very fun and consistant, my co workers were very nice and open about who i was and what i did. MY typical day would usaully be constant movement and ongoing things to do which would make the shift go by way faster than a casual day. The experience i gained was teamwork and communication as well as various cleaning and labour tips. Difficult things of the job for was certian co-workers that were lacking work ethic and no teamwork and ton of overtime during night shifts and also trying to get day shifts was a hassle. The overrall job was great for myself personally, i lost over 40 pounds working 10 months and met new people.

i hat a lot of fun working there most of the people where great! a few people always tried to take charge and boss everyone around which made it stressful. and when i needed more hours and asked i would get them for 2 weeks then go back to normal. the bosses where horrible at teaching new employees the menu, i learned more from co-worker and waitresses then i did from my 2 bosses it made it really hard living on my own barley being able to feed myself most days i would get in clean get a few orders around lunch clean some more and go home. despite all this the hotel Manager was one of the best bosses i ever had

Depending on whether or not you desperately need the job, you may runt the risk of minimal hours (up to 2 days of work per week - for 8.5 hour shifts). Some of the coworkers I had when employed there tended to be a little rude and belittled the other employees without prior engagement. The hardest part of the job would have to be constantly being on your feet and having to serve and clean up after the many customers that attend the banquets / events that the hotel hosts.

Starting at the vic was quick, didn't have much help but i caught on quite quick. The day was simple prep was easy enough so having that done quick i would then move the the flat top with 2 other chefs.from there id continue between prep and making pizzas, wings, working the flat top and dishes. Dishes would be done throughout the day although. then night everything would get cleaned, swept and left.

The manager was hardly ever around or available to talk too so most decisions were based on what we (the cleaners) knew about the situation. I got along good with my co-workers, they all would say I am hard working. The hardest part of the job would actually have been dealing with the managers. The most enjoyable part was freedom to make decisions and feel god about doing so.

Shifts often began at 6am or 4pm. A typical day at work included setting up tables for banquets or conferences, serving, and cleaning rooms. Management was respectful and often listened to requests for time off. The hardest part of the job was the hours- working early mornings and late nights (sometimes until 3am). The most enjoyable part was the fun work environment and free food.

the hardest part of the job was making sure that everything was spotless. no stains on the blankets, dust and vaccume everywhere. the most enjoyable part of the job is at break times where everyone can laugh and share on how they are doin so far.
