Upper management and the vision for the company was very good and they really do try to innovate and create a good place to work. If you get stuck under a bad manager this will suck and can easily happen at any other company too. There was abit of a bad culture where i was working, mostly unintentional and influenced  from being under a union because the ones who work hard, really care and take pride in their work will likely not be rewarded for it and even get the hardest jobs while the lazy less competent people get rewarded with the easy no stress work at union prescribed rates. The upper management are strong but as the company grows maybe slightly disconnected to the everyday operations which means  there is good opportunity for growth but only for those few who do stand out to them. Covid layoffs really hit hard in the department I was working, I would love to go back and work for Viking Air unfortunately never got that chance even after many attempts. It was a great experience I am very proud to have worked there and still find myself rooting for them today as a growing Canadian aviation company with lots of potential. 

The hard part to swallow is the animosity between the union and management  Wages and benefits are industry standard.  Four ten hour days are a bit long and there is NO flexibility in different start times for the production workers.  Overtime is a constant requirement when the rush is on.

The aviation business is cyclic and with the downturn four years at Viking and layoff of some of the best employees at the time.  Layoff weren't based on seniority, which they should have been, otherwise what's the point of seniority?

Overall they do pay for training at BCIT or Camosun College.  Good benefits and vacation and competitive wage.

We made history in this company. Bringing the Canadian built twin otter back into production! A sense of pride, Canadian pride! Started as a great place to work, highly competitive wages, clean work, great benefits package! But recently they have placed an American in the GM position. Worst idea ever! He is in the process of taking away Canadian work/ jobs/ pride away from us and shipping it down south of the border to a previous company of his. Job security out the window for lots of us here and many other company's across Canada who's work is now also being sent down south. Canadian built twin otter? No more! Morale in shop way down, not very fun to work at anymore.

Environment is disrespectful and untrusting. 
Human Resources was a puppet front for upper management and biased.
Wages were as Industry Standard.
Backstabbing culture seemed to be the order of the day.
Clicky female group that organized assassin squads toward people they didn't like or agree with and Human Resources appeared to be part of that, imo
Upper management were clearly disrespectful to the workers and had a clearly downward management style albeit constantly gaslighting the opposite state.


I worked at viking for four years. In that time I watched it go from the best Job I've ever had to just a huge disappointment. With the exception of a few, the management is under educated and knows nothing about airplanes, and quite frankly doesn't deserve to be around them at all. Once the Americans took over, that was the end,Just a huge disappointment all around. Too bad. It had such potential too. Great people through. Some of my best friends work there, not me though. Couldn't stand the double digit IQ management team

Viking is a great company to work for, work life balance is great. You are cared for and heard. Management is little weak..but I believe they have the right attitude to address issues and continuously work on improving processes aiming to be a world class organization. Very customer focused! I love working at Viking, though you need to be self starter with your own ideas to accomplish tasks.. don’t expect to be trained for the role you are hired for.

Paid the highest wages in the industry and benefits. management was tyrannical(snooping through garbage cans looking for food wrappers on the floor ect ect. and were not sure if they were coming or going.

Very buddy buddy. If you were buddies with a boss or manager you were guaranteed to advance , 

Clean work environment. Best benefits in the entire industry as well as vacation. Just management was very poor and a lot of nepotism and buddy buddy.

Very two faced and deceitful,do not appreciate hard work and accuracy if you do not kiss you know what and when you offer ideas to upper management and they are interested to continue the conversation you will be shot out the door before your day is done so the warehouse staff can keep the status quo.no interested in improving,just want to sit on their you know what and keep things familiar.

Terrible company culture. Management is inept and out of touch with its work force. Managers are trained to bully and intimidate thier workers. Company has sub contracted the majority of its work out of country and laid off many hard workers. Neptism and corruption run deep. Employment thier is merely a monotony exchange.
