VMC Game Labs

I very much enjoyed my stay at VMC. The most important part is you never really felt like you were working hard as for the most part you were playing a video game and reporting errors. A usual day of work was to arrive, sit down, open up the appropriate Excel sheets and begin following the instructions of the QA Senior Testers and Lead Tester for the project. Other than that, everything else was average work two breaks and a lunch.

Management did not interact much with us, as far as I'm concerned.

My co-workers were, for the most part, enjoyable and fun to be with. It felt more like we were hanging out than working hard, though those days would come sometimes.

Honestly there was no 'hardest part' of the job per say as the most difficult part was waking up at 6 AM for the early shift or getting home at midnight for night shift. The job itself wasn't difficult, just repetitive.

The most enjoyable part was every Friday as my project would have a snack table set up and we'd just kick back and relax for the last two hours of the shift during nights. While not always the case due to work needing to be done, when it occurred it was a nice change of pace.

First I'd like to say that the LOC department is not for you if you are looking for a full time job. The schedule is sent out daily and this may not fit everyone. I have to say I enjoy this lifestyle and the occasional day off gives me time to work on my personal projects.

Second I'd like to say that VMC is an excellent place to learn. You can easily start from a scratch and build yourself a career in this domain. I have seen new testers become seniors, leads and finally managers in roughly 3 years. Needless to say that this opens doors.

Finally but none the least, I have to admit that there is a lot of LOVE in the LOC department. There is a nice chemistry between the employees and the leads are very friendly and approachable. Never have I seen someone talking in someone else's back. It's rare to find a place like this.

The pay rate is decent and the insurance covers a lot from dental care to eye care to massage etc.

I think this is an awesome place to work if you understand what you sign up for and if that suits you.

VMC is in the business of taking advantage of its employees. To avoid giving raises and promotions, they put existing, well-trained and talented employees on-call and hire new, untrained employees. When VMC puts you on-call, they give you little to no notice (usually a day or two), meaning that you have no time to find work. As such, most employees (even the best workers) are constantly worried that they'll be unemployed by next week. Workers are often pressured to work overtime for long stretches of time. There is almost no opportunity for advancement. The team leaders are wonderful and good at their jobs, but the company structure is toxic and exploitative.

Great place to start if you're looking to begin a career in the video game industry. If you advance to a core position a lot of of the pipeline stuff can be self taught.

We had no benefits from working on site but had employment benefits that really didn't cover much and felt forced upon. 

Friends came easy if you're a bit anti-social. Upper management and upper co-workers can be discriminating and intimidating(They will judge you on the spot). Work can be restrictive at times including scheduling, work habits, and hours.

A typical testing session with VMC games labs is a fun experience and a great look into the larger video game industry.

As a QA remotes tester you will test the newest video games from the comfort of your home months in advance of the retail release

The atmosphere is fun and light, and the management is very helpful if a little slow getting back to you.

It's not a hard job, but it can be boring testing for bugs. You're not playing the games, you're testing for bugs.

The best part about the job is getting your hands on all the newest games months in advance.

This is a clan like environment.  You will succeed if you have passion for the gaming industry and have a skill set in a particular genre of game.  The people around you, seniors, leads and experienced testers, will walk you through the necessary steps to complete your daily tasks but be ready to have fun.  Upper management came through the ranks and understand the balance between business and people fun.  Benefits are a bit raw boned but it's a great launching point for a future career in this industry.

While the environment is generally fun and challenging, management and employee relation departments show an important lack of concern for lower-level employees by withholding information and having absolutely no screening process for promotions and new hires. Everything seems arbitrary and a lot of empty promises are made to keep people on a leash.

I was young and this was my first job when I came to Canada. It was good to learn and get familiar with a casual working environment. Unfortunately management was pretty badly organized due to lack of communicaton. I was always unsure why exactly things went so wrong. Quantity was more important than quality which made the company suffer in the past years.

The VMC game labs is not a bad place to start. The environment is great but the salary needs to be reviewed. It's way too low in my opinion for the work we have to do. But other than that, I learned a lot especially towards the computer system and troubleshoot.

It is a fun job if you like video games but there is no security at all, the job is on call and you just know if you are going to work on next day, one day before.

Seems that this all is going to change once that Keywords bought the company.
