Compared to the tasks of my most co-workers, my daily tasks were more specialized, with a gradual deviation as I went on. My main asset that tied into my duties was my ability to work with the heavier equipment as well as heavy lifting duties, such as rearranging of display skids as well as transporting soil bags. When my duties weren't related to heavy equipment or lifting, I found myself working amongst my fellow co-workers, sharing similar duties such as working retail or maintaining our products.
Things I have learned while working for Dionne's Valu Mart is that asking questions can be crucial but most of all, learning about a company's products is arguably much more valuable in the end. More often than not, I found myself referring to my co-workers or manager to help with questions or concerns from customers and wasn't always able to help on my own.
The manager working with me during my time at Valu Mart was helpful on a daily basis, not only to me, but with any obstacles whatsoever. While the manager wasn't always on site, I was almost always able to make a call if I needed to.
My co-workers have been working at Valu Mart for years before I arrived there and had valuable experience to share with me if I had any questions or if I simply needed their assistance.
As I've mentioned before, I think one of my most challenging obstacles was learning the specifics of the products available, they certainly required extra time to learn.
The gratification of working independently at the garden centre and consistently satisfying customers was foreign to me until I worked here, it was fulfilling for me at the end of the day.
Overall, working at Dionne's Valu Mart was valuable experience for me and shaped my knowledge of working retail.

The Valu-Mart location that I'm at is absolutely fantastic. Cashier manager is absolutely wonderful and clearly likes their job, however this can be applied to most of the people working there. Training is given appropriately with a proper "throw you into the pool and see if you swim" kind of ending that you don't feel unprepared for. The work relationship is a very casual professionalism because there aren't people working who suck at their job. 

For some reason the customers here are way friendlier than all the other grocery stores in the neighborhood. Many of the regulars are on a first name basis with the cashiers. It's actually really nice. 

Sometimes the upper management in the store can be a little picky but I understand their reasoning. Mostly. As always, there will be procedures and things in place that just don't make that much sense but eh what can you do

A typical day  for me would be slicing various meats for customers, cooking and serving hot food, putting orders away on the load days, doing various cleaning jobs and making sure everything is kept in order.
I have learned a great deal of patience, great customer service skills especially with a difficult customer and also a great deal of the various products provided. 
Management can be demanding at times and what I mean by that is, they ask a lot of you and they usually need it done right away and that is understandable but if you tell them that you just need to finish up a job before you can start what they asked of you, they will get upset. 
The hardest part of the job is doing having to do other people's work on top of your own when they go home early. 
The most enjoyable part of the job is getting to interact with the customers. Some of them I know by name and they always come in to say hello and some days that makes the day so much better.

The first the is to make sure all the meats and the prices were properly on display. Then to turn on the oil cooker and the oven. Pull the breads out and make sure they had risen properly. if the ovens are start cooking the breads. At about 11:30 start cooking lunches for when the students came. Make sure a few cakes are on display and nothing has run out. If someone has ordered a specific cake, meal or platter, then it must be made ready. always clean up after yourself. When closing restock what is needed.

I learned that there is a lot more that a job requires on the outside and you must always work your hardest to exceed both the customers, the managers and your own expectations.

I very much enjoyed working there. My co-workers were nice as were there managers. I was praised when something was right and told what I did wrong as well as how to fix it.

The hardest part was making sure that everyone was satisfied, enough was in stock and decorating the cakes. On the other hand that could be just as fun as well!

A typical day included, making sure the store was clean, organized and well stocked. Stock was well organized in the receiving area and the storage area to better the customers experience. Also including being available to assist in any way possible the other departments in the store. 

I was able to develop exquisite customer service skills, dealing with many different concerns on a daily basis.  As well as problem solving, ordering for large customer requests and how to prioritize.  

Co-workers were mostly fun and enjoyable people, a few were not as such, but their attitudes just helped us learn how to deal with such like ones.  

The hardest part of the job was when a customer asked for a specific product that we were not able to carry for them.

I  loved being able to work hard throughout the day, help customers and staff alike find what they were looking for and to have pride in a job well done.

I really enjoyed my time i spent at the store. There was lots of responsibility involed but they reated me good. I learned alot about the business and work ethics. I maanaged the deli and the bakery so i was always busy. I enjoyed the challenge of those jobs. I worked the commercial bakery every morning but it wasn't hard. My staff that worked for me were great, they were eager and i made some good friends from working with them.  The part that i found hard was trying to find enough time to keep on eveything so that was a challenge. I miss the store and the people that are there. I still keep intouch with them as i have people there that i was close to .

A typical day at work starts in the early hours of 6 or 7am and usually go until 12-3. The day normally starts by making sure the produce and salad products are all fresh. Rotating the old for the new produce in the morning and then restocking the shelves as needed. Throwing away expired products and scanning them out. (Taking inventory and making up new salads, fruit trays and yogurt parfaits to replace the thrown out stock) Management was excellent, the hours were normally consistent and organized well as were the produce. Easy going staff most days. It can get slow for work during mid week but weekends are usually pretty busy. Its air conditioned and the staff were easy to talk to so as far as summer jobs go, its a pretty good deal.

If you're looking for a part time job while in school, this is not a bad place to work. You'll never work later than 10pm or earlier than 7am, and can easily pick up 10-15 hours during the week. The manager is flexible and understanding of school schedules and other jobs, although there were occasional issues and miscommunications regarding being asked to pick up extra shifts and covering shifts for others. 

In terms of the actual work, it's either dead slow or crazy busy, and can be quite tedious, but it's good customer service experience. 

When I worked there, the location had defaulted on their union meeting and therefore was not required to meet current company union standards (i.e. pay raises, employee discount cards, etc.), but I'm not sure if this has since changed.

Working at Chris's Valumart  was an interesting experience, the typical workday included cleaning, customer service, food preparation , and stock work. While working there I learned how important communication is to make the team function smoothly. Management worked hard to be sure that everyone had a decent amount of hours. The fellow coworkers at Chris's Valumart were very friendly and helpful.
The hardest part of working at Chris' Valumart was being able to get extra hours when needed. 
The most enjoyable part of working at Chris's Valumart was knowing that many of the coworkers were also part of the community, and a family type atmosphere was present.

- the work was very enjoyable for me, in the beginning, i had the opportunities to show my experience; i found the work to be really easy.
- owner, in desperation, got me to fill in for night crew when help was needed.  in the end, refused to promote anyone, nor hire someone, and wanted to change my working in days to overnights; which is not my preferrance
- after submitting my two weeks notice to withdraw from full time work and stay onboard as part time; i didn't get any schedule shifts and was forced to quit
- Union was able to get me back on schedule; but after the ordeal with the owner, it was best to part ways
- During my full time term; I worked over 3 months and did not receive my benefits, as per my contract signed
