Vancouver Fashion Week

VFW is a rapidly growing internationally-recognized fashion event with a diverse team and often frantic work schedule. 

Held twice a year in step with the international fashion week calendar, VFW produces up to 60 shows per season for designers from around the world, including China, Brazil, Korea, Russia, Peru, United States, and many more. 

The organizers are as diverse as the designers that show, and represent a cross section of young professionals, international students, business advisors from the Vancouver community, which form an engaged group of passionate individuals that propel the show to success every season.

The role demanded polished, high impact marketing while everything behind the scenes remained scattered and unsteady. Campaign goals shifted halfway through execution, approvals stalled without any explanation, and timelines ignored what was realistically possible. Strategy talks sounded impressive but rarely turned into clear, usable plans, leaving performance to feel like blind guessing. Feedback arrived late, often clashing with what was previously approved, creating rework and frustration. Most days felt like constant damage control instead of thoughtful brand building.

	Administers and manages office support of interaction
	Offer advice and information to fifty volunteers and external organizations through face-to-face, telephone and email contact.
	Recruit volunteers and ensure they are appropriately matched and trained for a position.
	Assigns all the volunteers to work based on events needs.
	Monitor, supporting, motivating and accrediting volunteers and their work.

The job asks for big results, but the support behind the scenes is weak. Plans change all the time, so you end up redoing the same work more than once. Getting approval can take forever, then suddenly everything is urgent. Feedback shows up late and often goes against what was already agreed on. Most days turn into fixing problems instead of doing real marketing work. It gets pretty frustrating and honestly exhausting after a while. If you want a place with clear direction, you might want to avoid this one.

VFW is a good start for recent graduates who have zero experience but interested in get involved in fashion or event planning industry. The work environment is quite intense as everyone has not only sales target but also other duties on their hands. During the event, the work hours are long (12 hours/day) for 7 days in a row.

CONS:
Very intense stressful labour work environment for a job that is unpaid. Very little time for breaks.. sometimes you have to work non-stop and somehow fit a 10-15 minute break in between for a 12 hour shift. Snacks and drink are provide but not a lot. Location feels unsafe to me and also Management....

PROS:
Meeting your team members and leaders and networking with different departments and people. Experience that I can add to my resume & portfolio. 



Here at Vancouver Fashion Week, opportunities are very limited. There is very little training given to employees, and growth and learning opportunities are nonexistent. The leadership basically doesn't care about your career development. The workloads are also often overwhelming, and work hours can be very brutal. 

Vancouver Fashion Week is a well organized cultural extravaganza of local, national and international talent. 

I photographed candid portraits of the audience and backstage. And cataloged thirty-five collections on a white backdrop.

My contacts at VFW were amazing and made my job easy and enjoyable. I will work with them again.

My experience at Vancouver Fashion Week helped me learned a lot of things. For example, communication skills and task managing skills. I was in charge of the wedding gown show and I was really astonished to see all those beautiful dresses. The most enjoyable part was definite about collaboration. Even though the whole event was face-paced, my team and I were able to get used to it and manage it excellently.

Vancouver Fashion Week would be an amazing company if it was run by someone else. The founder of VFW over works and under pays you as well as doesnt pay most of the staff. Other than that I learned what I want and don't want out of a job! However I did get to collaborate with other departments and companies and figure out what my style of graphic design was.
