When I get to the floor I was called into usually I write report /take report then off to the races by 715.  I do a full head to toe assessment first then medication administration along with getting patients prepared for any diagnostic procedures/surgeries scheduled.  Throughout the day there are numerous things to get done, such as dressing/VAC changes, IV starts, charting, and emergency situations.  I learn something new everyday like last night shift I prepared two patients for a kidney transplant and did a lot of teaching with them about what it will be like for them when they return from the OR.  My co-workers are extremely supportive if there are any concerns, questions and everyone helps everyone in a "team" nursing approach.  The hardest part of the job is giving patients enough time to communicate effectively.  I always wish I had more time to sit down and really get to know these people better but there is always the balance that has to take place in a busy surgical environment.  My favourite part of the day is doing assessments and or procedures where I can talk to the patients and listen to interesting stories about themselves.

I am responsible for overseeing my team members as they progress. I double check if they need help with them with any issues. I keep in touch with the clients to update with them.
I think learning and working with other people is good start of my career. 
Management is very important especially at work without managing your time your task wont be finish. 
Working with multicultural environment is challenging for me because, you learned so many different thing from their culture.
I think when I started my new job I found my self I was not  an organized as I wanted to be.
I think meeting with new people and talking with them is the best part of our work.

Transporting medical supplies to different units in the hospital as well as garbage and bio-hazardous waste and chemicals.

I'v learned to be more clean and sanitized after dealing with unsanitary supplies because the hospital carries the most disease.

Management is ok, although my shifts varies and not stable for me to live.   

Co-Workers are amazing and always there to help when in doubt.

Hardest part of the job is dealing with heavy linen and dangerous and demanding.

I enjoy the job the is working with good people and always a positive vibe in that work community

Large hospital so requires a few months to learn the several routes. Sometimes heavy lifting and lots of walking. Coworkers are helpful and understanding when working with you. Most people people are friendly. It's a tough way to start a career because you are at the bottom of the relief call list to cover sic calls from fulltime employees. Have a second job handy. If you are dedicated to building you're seniority, take any calls and do the different roles you are trained for. 

BRIDGES stands for Building Recovery of Individual Dreams & Goals through Education & Support. The most enjoyable part of the job was knowing I made a difference in peoples lives and had great co-workers. The hardest part of the job was not being able to fix someone overnight and the stress that came with that. A typical day would be making the posters, handing out work sheets to the clients, studying the brain and preparing lectures for the class.

Absolutely love helping patients, families, staff and other people find hospital services and departments.  The fast paced environment and the multitasking is one of the areas that is a wonderful attribute.  People are very friendly, and the hospital environment is somewhere where I have always wanted to be.  

If you're wanting to get some skills, and you're wanting to work with a wonderful team of people, then this is an excellent opportunity.  Just started in August, and it has been the best move that I have done!  This is a wonderful volunteer opportunity!

Typical day was booking appointments, registering patients, processing incoming faxes, filing, answering the phone.

Strict enforcement of dress code policy and WorkSafe policy on appropriate footwear.  Definitely no open-toed shoes.

Office politics, respectful workplace policy needed to be enforced.

Break times were set by the manager, no leniency with start and end times.

Hardest part of the job was feeling oppressed by micro-management.

Most enjoyable part was getting to know my coworkers, and working in a team environment.

A typical day at work consists of working with RNA and DNA samples as well as filing. I  learned many skills that can be translated out of the workplace such as attention to detail as well as time management. The workplace culture was very efficient and productive as everyone there was driven in their respective areas. The hardest part of the job was mastering organization as a lot of the experiments required a fair amount of precision. The most enjoyable part of the job was knowing that you were contributing to the well begin of others.

Day starts with nursing huddle, ongoing updates and events that concerns the patients.NOrmally patient's treatment starts at 7 am running 4 hours into the dialysis machines. I am satisfied with my current relationship with my co workers. The hardest part of the job is the complexity of the cases. Enjoyable part of the job is knowing that at the end of the day you were able to extend help to another human being in prolonging another day in their life. 

It is a place of acutely ill patients giving you the ability to learn and develop your skills. Staff give it their all! BUT...
VCH struggles with the demands on the healthcare system. Lots of layers of mgt but little staff on the floor giving care.
Staff are burnt out and getting sick or having injuries.
Mgt does not know how to problem solve with complex issues and often avoid them.
Bullying occurs and if you are unable to cope independently with it you will be defeated.
