I'm honestly a bit afraid to even write a review because its for a police department; however, a prospective applicant should be fully informed before applying.  

I was very excited to work here after graduating from university and was so proud to have passed through their long and drawn out application process (resume screen, phone call, testing, interview, security interview and clearance).  I was very proud to start working there, it all changed once I started.

It was apparent from the start that most people that had been working there for any amount of time were completely miserable and jaded.  I received improper and inconsistent training, was overworked (11 hour rotating shift work, 4 on 4 off) and was pushed to the point of mental, emotional and physical exhaustion.  Toxic management would tell you to go faster, but complain when mistakes were made, while simultaneously adding more workload.  Management would micromanage to the point of having someone sit beside you watching you in real time while you work while they take notes.  Everything you did was collected, logged and checked down to the most minute detail.  They would tell you that you are doing well, only to blindside you and tell upper management the opposite.  You felt like no matter how hard you tried, you were consistently never good enough, meanwhile other coworkers would make similar errors which appeared to go completely unnoticed.

It almost felt like they were intentionally making my time there so miserable so that I would quit.  I started proud and with high hopes for a successful start to a civilian career in policing, I left traumatized and rattled.


- Transcribed and quality-controlled police reports, completed daily stolen vehicle audits, received and forwarded routine and urgent CPIC messages to and from other policing agencies
- I learned in detail about CPIC and PRIME systems as well as internal workflow and procedures
- Our unit (CPIC/Transcription) had a very competent and communicative supervisor who placed a lot of effort and resources into on-going training and mentoring of each employee in the group
- I worked with a very knowledgeable group of people, often without supervision during night shift, when we would provide concrete answers, moral support and guidance to each other whenever one of us found himself or herself in a situation that required such help
- The most difficult part of the job was being able to multitask and prioritize while dealing with urgent calls and messages, a situation which would sometimes last throughout my shift
- The most enjoyable part of the job was the sense of contribution I felt while assisting police officers on duty to improve the well-being and safety of our community.



Learning valuable policing processes to support Police members.  This service assists police members / officers in serving the community.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Cannot think of a particular stress related aspect throughout my work experience.

There is nothing that one cannot cope with while working and attaining goals.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
I like the culture at VPD,  Consistently respectfully work environment.  Efficient motivational policies such as inculcating team work amongst staff.  This often exceeds expectations in meeting goals.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
1. Arrive on time and be prepared to takeover tasks from your team.
2. Completing time sensitive tasks.
3. Continue to work on assigned duties.
4. Due diligence & organizing of duties for handover to team members at the end of  one's shift

Disappointing that it’s as disorganized as it is. They need people yet act like elitists

How they need you but treat you as though you are beneath them

Elitist and Disorganized and Snobby

Underpaid and over worked. Cliquey and elitist

What is the best part of working at the company?
Being part of a team and the opportunity for advancement.  As a civilian member there are so many departments that you can aspire to work in. 

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Working within the framework of a Union environment.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
I enjoyed my time very much however there can be issues anywhere you work.

In my 43 year career with VPD I had opportunity to work in three distinctly different Departments from working for Executive to Clerk/Supervisor.  Met and maintained friendships, gained experience through training offered by Department and City as well as my own training path with BCIT.  Management was open to ideas that could make a difference.  

Working at the Vancouver Police Department as a Financial Analyst was a highly rewarding and professionally enriching experience. The organization fosters a strong culture of integrity, collaboration, and public service, making it a truly unique place to work within the public sector.

Can't say enough positives about working for the VPD.  Excellent job culture; in-house training; great management; flexible hours; earned days off.  Would definitely work there again.

Great experience, hanging out with friends while learning new skills. learning new things, everything from self defense, to leadership, to meeting new friends. overall very fun experience
