Vector Construction

My experience at Vector Construction has been great. The company is like a big family. A large portion of the staff have been around for decades and it's easy to see why. The culture is very friendly and welcoming. The owners and management will pop by your office and see how your doing, taking an interest in the employees. I'm in the accounting department, so my role is primarily finance related tasks. I find the work challenging and have great support from my manager, including personal training sessions and daily check-ins. There is lots to learn about the construction industry, and Vector provides support to help get familiarized with the business, including in-depth tours of the warehouses and manufacturing facilities, along with presentations from the owners and management. 

In most places they’re not know for good pay, in Thunder Bay it was alright. Company is run by inept people and their friends’ kids, etc so advancement is limited and the people who screw the most stuff up will rise to the top. You’ll be reporting to people in different places with different priorities, objectives and expectations so expect to get caught in the middle of that. The politics is absolutely toxic and when you’re done at Vector you’ll feel like you’ve left a cult. While it looks nice and well-maintained, you’ll be giving your customers expensive gifts but then when the job starts, the compressor won’t,
Or the truck won’t, or the generator won’t… it’s all old junk that they can’t afford to maintain or replace due to high overhead.

I quite enjoyed my time at Vector, everyone on the crew was professional and really made you feel part of the team. A big thing they prioritize on is safety, so before you start your work day you will be filling out hazard assessments each day, to review how to do the job safely and effectively which is something very helpful in getting you home every night in one piece. the hours vary based on the project but typically on average a 10 hour work day is expected. If you ever have a question on how to do something, the foremen and workers are pretty helpful in teaching you the right way.

Working at Vector Restorations has been my concrete career's most accelerated learning curve so far. I joined as a Concrete Technician with a solid classroom foundation but limited real‑world reps; twelve months later, I’m finishing 35 MPa decks, swapping post‑tension cables on high‑rise roofs, and troubleshooting crack injections like I’ve been doing it for years. Vector’s culture is ruthlessly safety‑first—daily stretch‑and‑flex, spot audits, and zero tolerance for shortcuts—but that structure lets you push technical boundaries without second‑guessing yourself. The foremen were mentors, and you will learn a lot from them!

Concrete work is hard work. To quote a foreman I had "nothing we do is easy or good for you" and that rings true in concrete no matter where you work. Jackhammering, especially overhead, working with silica dust, post tension cables, laying steel, tying steel, pouring it all takes it's toll on you. They do their best at Vector and as large companies go theyre one of the better ones for being ontop of it all. But all in all it's the guys in the field that make that place great and if you find yourself at the winnioeg branch you'll find yourself among some of the best guys there are.

Working with Vector Construction was a challenge. You had to work hard and fast which is what I like doing, getting the job done. I met a lot of people and got along with everyone and management was awesome. The hardest part of the job was having to follow orders which usually what I did, I was always a foreman working with the other company I worked for but got use to it. Concrete is my passion and you learn something everyday and continue learning.

I was treated like i was nobody from 2 superior but some are very good guys , giving the benefit of the doubt from beginning . 
Depending on foreman , rarely I learn something new , 
Management is poor , lots of over time during summer and no work during winter , no heads up when is time to get laid off, and when you want to take some days off, you need to tell 3 months in advance 

Personally wasn’t a fan only had two decent foreman’s in my time there. I feel higher up management could have done a lot more to benefit workers. If you haven’t been a long term employee you’re not really that important to them. Just something to fill the temporary void in their busy schedule.  Went from working a 10 hour shift to being laid off by management 3 hours after my shift ended. 

The company was good but the supervisors and management needs to be more understanding and should have a backbone.  I learned alot but when it came to wanting to learn more the foreman refused to teach.  The co-workers were ok but there was some that had no respect and very rude.  The hardest part about the job was not knowning where the next job was until the last minute. The company was very unorganized.
