I worked as a receptionist at Hazelton Place Retirement Residence for several months. The major issue I had with this job was with the management. I earnestly hope that the values of the managers of Hazleton Place aren't shared by Verve Senior Living.
In my experience, the dining staff, PSWs, nurses, maintenance people, and housekeepers were the ones who kept the business functioning and were hardworking and dedicated people. However, I saw repeatedly how minor mistakes they made were blown out of proportion by the managers while serious failures in management were ignored. Instead of providing polite feedback in private, the managers would often publicly reprimand employees for mistakes via email. Because of this, employees often blamed each other for mistakes because they were afraid of being embarrassed. In my opinion, the company did not hire enough people, so most of the employees had an unreasonable number of responsibilities and these mistakes were inevitable.
Despite expecting so much from everyone else, some of the managers worked only three days a week and sometimes went on vacation multiple times per month. They rarely answered their phones and left potential clients waiting too long.
It also seemed like the management wanted total control over the building, which contributed to the overall culture of fear I experienced. They didn't let the PSWs use the parking lot and publicly banned former employees from the building, even saying that we should call the police if one of them tried to enter. In at least one case, a former employee had a personal connection to one of the residents, so banning him was completely unreasonable.
Unfortunately, some of the lower-level employees collaborated with the managers in making my job needlessly stressful. One of the supervisors was close with the managers and intermittently made my job harder, often on days when she seemed to be in a bad mood. Even though she made more mistakes than the other supervisors, she aggressively lectured me about small mistakes or reported them to management, despite the fact doing so wasn't part of her job.
When I was there, several employees quit, including the two nicest managers. Before I left, an employee who was consistently condescending and difficult to work with was promoted to management. I ended up resigning without having another job lined up. Despite liking the job itself and planning to stay for much longer, the toxic work culture made it needlessly unpleasant. It's my belief that Verve Senior Living is wasting money because of the managers of Hazleton Place, and I hope that higher-ups aren't aware of the situation. Having to continually hire employees who don't have the chance to learn to do the job well before the work culture causes them to quit, on top of having to pay extra for training, is a needless expense that's ultimately attributable to toxic management.
For the time being, I would strongly urge job seekers to look elsewhere.

I started working their last year, some coworkers are good but one particular worker who works with them from long time have no sense to talk to coworkers she have no control on her temper and can Harass you anytime anywhere and company and management will always take her side.
In building you can see they have lots of brochures which says they will take restrict actions for harassment but in reality those are just brochures. They just consider and trust there old employees who are licking them.
Manager will always play mind games with you if you ask for reference he will never give you, he is worst manger. Who always take side of their own country employees. He hire you for different position but want to do different duties. They can change and put more duties on you without any discussion with you. When he is unable to find someone cover shift the person who asked for day off or emergency he forced those people to come. If you took day off because your kid is not well be ready to give him your kids sick note . 
If you think to work with this place just make sure you can’t work with some other company because they gave you shifts like 4 days work 2 days off in this way you don’t have particular days to work first time Monday-Thursday next time Tuesday to Friday.
Be ready to do kitchen duties as well, theirs only 2 employee for 40 clients. One for 4 hrs one for 8 hrs. The person who do 8 hrs always want to do more work from 4 hours person.

I have recently joined Verve and could not be happier with my decision to switch jobs and join the team. I started with such a warm welcome and was introduced to all of my co-workers and the leadership team throughout my first few weeks of onboarding. The company has a very fast-paced and challenging environment with lots to learn and room for advancement both within your role and into different areas of the Company. From what I have seen thus far, they are a big advocate for promoting from within and helping their employees reach their career goals, offer lots of lunch/learn sessions, master classes, education reimbursements, competitive salaries, etc. and have a big focus on racial equity initiatives and an inclusive working environment. They are forward thinking and are always striving to improve their operations and place of work.
My manager is very open, approachable and always ready to answer any questions or concerns I have. She is an excellent leader and always makes sure our voices are heard.
Overall, great start thus far and I look forward to a career with Verve.

I started working at Richmond Hill Retirement Residence in 2012. Things at this time were slower, there seem to be more time allocated for the residents by management and support office. Since the pandemic, it has been a challenge with communication between support office and the home and less face to face interactions. Only in the last couple of months, support office is making more of an effort to show face and on-site support, I hope this will continue to happen and hopefully motivate staff members to keep up the good work and to strive for the successes they desire. I am so grateful for all the opportunities Verve has given me over the years and really gave me my start to a successful career. My advice to the front line staff who would like to advance in their careers, is to speak up, let your direct supervisor or general manager know that you are looking to grow! :) I wish everyone much success and happiness. Thank you Verve. 

This place had a great vision in the beginning. Lots of hopes and promises, but the visions are not aligned with reality.  Disorganized right from the beginning, and no one seem to want to fix it.  Management only cares about making profits and not in-tuned with the day-to-day challenges/needs.  Staffing levels have always been an issue.  Workers are overworked/burned out, underpaid and under valued.  Management lack in recognizing the hard-work and the contributions of the staff.  In any role, there is no room for learning-curve, they expect you to be in your role and perform right away! There is also a lot of “special friendships” and “groupings” happening which puts one in a disadvantage when you’re not in this clique.  There’s so many expectations working here, on any given day you are a ... Care Aide, Leader, Supervisor, Scheduler, Cook, Housekeeper, Entertainer.

What is the best part of working at the company?
Free food for lunch, and maybe dinner once you are done your shift if any food is left. 

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
I started this job not long ago and didn’t stay very long, please keep in mind for every task I'm going to say you will be on a time crunch!! The role requires you to serve residents and guests that can be 16- 20 people for lunch and AGAIN for dinner, remember names and dietary restrictions as well as meal preferences, and assist with PLATING MEALS such as soups or fruit. You are also responsible for setting tables MULTIPLE times throughout a 7 hour shift, often up to FOUR times as well as polishing cutlery.

In addition, you’ll be assigned “side duties” during your shift. These can include tasks like RETOCKING supplies, doing LANDRY, WASHING DISHES, and folding a LARGE amount of linen. The workload is very demanding for minimum wage please keep this in mind before applying!

A typical day involves coordinating office operations, supporting the team, and keeping everything running smoothly. I’ve learned a lot about organization, problem-solving, and effective communication. Management is supportive and approachable, and the workplace culture is positive and collaborative.

The hardest part of the job can be juggling multiple priorities at once, but the most enjoyable part is seeing the team work together and knowing that my efforts help everything run efficiently. Overall, Riverwalk is a great place to grow professionally in a welcoming environment.

Review of Working at Verve Senior Living

I worked as a Dining Attendant at Verve Senior Living, and my experience was a mix of positives and challenges. The company itself is good, offering benefits that are a definite plus. However, the compensation is not competitive, especially considering the workload.

The role of a Dining Attendant comes with a lot of responsibilities and tasks, making it quite demanding. While the residents were genuinely pleasant and kind, which made the job more rewarding, the same cannot be said about the Dining Supervisor. Unfortunately, she was often rude and unprofessional toward the staff, which made the work environment stressful at times.

Overall, Verve Senior Living has its strengths, particularly in terms of the residents and benefits, but improvements are needed in management and compensation to create a more positive and supportive workplace for staff.

I started working at one of the Verve properties in Vancouver at the beginning of September and was pleasantly surprised by how welcoming and helpful everyone was, starting from my team members on site all the way up to the people from Head Office. If I need help - there is always someone that I can ask and more importantly, someone that is willing to help. 

Having such a work environment creates an atmosphere where everyone wants to help and nobody is afraid to get his / her fingers dirty. My first 100 days have flown by so quickly and looking back, it feels like I have been working here for a long time. This is truly a place where I enjoy going to work and don't hesitate to recommend it to anyone that asks me.

What is the best part of working at the company?
The opportunity to work independently helped me develop strong time management, problem-solving, and organizational skills. Managing multiple floors alone required me to stay focused, prioritize tasks efficiently, and maintain consistency in completing all responsibilities despite limited support.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
There was no proper orientation or training provided, which made it difficult to understand expectations and perform the job effectively. Additionally, management lacked experience and support, which contributed to a disorganized work environment.
