Working in a veterinary clinic is a continuous learning experience. Whether it's staying updated on the latest medical advancements or learning from the unique cases that come through the door, there's always something new to discover.
 A positive workplace culture is essential for a veterinary clinic to thrive. Collaboration, empathy, and a shared passion for animals are often key components of a supportive and fulfilling work environment.
Regarding  management, it  is crucial in a veterinary clinic to ensure smooth operations and optimal patient care. This includes scheduling appointments efficiently, managing inventory, and overseeing staff to ensure they're equipped to provide the best possible care.
One of the most challenging aspects of working in a veterinary clinic is dealing with the emotional toll of seeing sick or injured animals, especially when outcomes aren't always favourable. It takes resilience and emotional strength to navigate these situations while still providing compassionate care.
How ever despite the challenges, there are countless moments of joy and fulfillment in working with animals. Whether it's witnessing a successful treatment, helping a pet recover, or forming bonds with clients and their furry companions, these moments make all the hard work worthwhile.

I worked at a clinic that was bought by this corporate group. At first, we were told that things would remain stable, but over time it became clear that staff well-being and patient care were not priorities.

Inexperienced veterinarians were regularly placed into very busy clinics with minimal support. Staff were expected to “support” them, which essentially meant training them on the job while juggling our own duties. This created high stress, confusion, and safety concerns on a regular basis.

Mental health struggles among staff became common, including several very serious cases. The company’s response was cold, dismissive, and ineffective. HR consistently showed a lack of empathy and professionalism when approached for help.

There were also frequent violations of privacy. Corporate staff openly discussed confidential information among themselves and with clinic staff in ways that breached trust and created a toxic environment.

One of the most disturbing patterns was allowing vets to perform surgeries they were not trained or equipped to handle. When complications arose, experienced veterinarians had to be called in urgently from their day off or from completely unrelated clinics not even owned by the company. This put patients at risk and made it clear that revenue came first, not responsible care.

If you are looking for a workplace that values integrity, support, and safety, I would strongly advise against joining this organization.

I started working at the clinic after it was bought out by vetcare. The interview went well and I actually thought wow this might not be so bad. Dont get me wrong, the staff here (minus management) is amazing. We all get along for the most part and its a pretty decent working environment. Cue corporate nonsense. No one in the corporate aspect has any clue about vet med and it shows. All they want is money, even if it means lower standards of care for the patients and the terrible treatment of staff. They "never" have enough money to actually pay us or hire more staff but can some how afford to hire more non billable corporate staff like medical managers and talent acquisition. They have barley anything for benefits and no bonuses, only trinkets that literally mean nothing to us. Were losing a receptionist and they wont even replace them making us even more understaffed. They are also threatening to cut peoples hours. They want to make the most money they can with the least amount of staff members possible. None of us can even afford to live at this point. The only thing that keeps me here are my amazing coworkers.  AVOID THIS COROPRATION LIKE THE PLAUGE  

At the beginning, I was very excited to join the team. To grow and to be as successful as I possibly could. A few months in, I started to notice the cracks and voicing my concerns & option. This particular clinic had meeting after meeting after meeting with no improvements what so ever. During these meetings you are open to voice your concerns/things we can do differently around the clinic and or in appointments/surgeries. No improvement or options being taking seriously from current employees. If you are wanting to grow & learn as much as possible, this is not the place for you. Unless you have become a favourite from the DVMS/management. I went above and beyond, stayed late, came in early, came in on my days off, helped train, came in when others called in. Helped in multiple departments but as soon as I asked for more hours.. That was unacceptable on their end. They would rather watch their current employees struggle financially and then hire new people the next day. I was working my scheduled shift and then brought into a meeting which then I was let go due to their “financial needs.” At that point I was passed my probational period.  The woman that worked there for 2 months got to keep her job. This is a corporation that owns multiple clinics..  

Probably the worst corporate I've worked for. They are owned by accountants so they treat everyone like robots and only look at the numbers. Almost all their clinics do not have doctors or techs because they ALL quit. They expect you to do more and more but never give you a raise. If you ask, they just make up excuses or offer you only 20 CENTS each year.  They even treat the doctors poorly. I have spoken with them and they all say the same thing. They ignore all concerns brought up to them and even threaten you if you do not comply. They are desperate right now so may entice people with really good offers but I guarantee once you're locked into a contract, things go downhill quick. They have no qualms coming in and firing a bunch of people with no warning which sent them running out crying. Everything they promised me was not fulfilled. I have worked for other corporates and they were much much better managed. If you want to work for them, do NOT sign anything.

Came into the job as they were transitioning to corporate. Everyone there has immediately regretted it ever since. They lie about moving forward in the company and hire under qualified people for major roles just to fill a position after months of push for it. They do not care about their staff members in the slightest and believe that everyone is replaceable, even with the major shortage we currently have. The only people who benefit from this company are the people in high positions of management or pretty much anyone on the corporate side of things. Over half of their “regional managers” have  never even owned a pet and 99% of the corporate team are “HR” and argue with clinics about costs for basic necessities required for good patient care. Everything is about money and they will never care about the mental or physical well-being of their staff, or about the animals in the care of their clinics. AVOID AT ALL COST.

The absolute worst corporate company you could possibly work for. I am an RVT and was hired on in a manger position (which I also have significant experience in). I was told that this particular clinic had 4 RVT's when in reality they had none...... they trained off the street people (yes some where great!!!). So I ended up being the only RVT in the clinic so had do all the RVT things as well as run the practice as a manager. You get crapped on by head office with absolutely no support from them. You may think you are a manager but in reality you have no say in how to manage or run your practice. There where no vets and when they did have some vets they where awful and practiced terrible medicine but head office didn't care as they where bringing in money. All staff was so over worked and miss treated. DO NOT WORK FOR THIS COMPANY!!!!

- I started working with Vet care as a restricted vet, but do not worry as they care more and more of  you if you have exams or need more support to learn and be prepared to become a fully licensed vet.
- hopefully the atmosphere of their hospitals are completely positive and supportive
- we all came from different walks of life with different cultures, but we all respect each other 
- The most interesting part is getting update from your technician that your patient is getting better
- the hardest part of our job is that in few conditions you find that you do not have enough knowledge to diagnose and treat your patient properly. Hopefully by free access to vet care learning website you can improve your knowledge all time you want and take CE point at the same time. 

I've worked for a large corporation before.  Vetcare is not the same.  They advertise that they are not like other corporations.  No minimum targets, no changes to how we practice medicine, no staff cuts...  This is all true.   Yes they hold us to a consistent standard, as they do all their clinics, but we already held ourselves to that same standard so there really was no dramatic changes after the acquisition.  Vetcare has been nothing but supportive and nurturing in helping our clinic grow and the staff reach their full potential by providing opportunities that they never would have had access to before.   I have nothing but good things to say about VetCare and I am proud to be an employee of such a great company. 

I had to leave for my own mental health. The amount of OT I would have to do in order to scrape by with the severe lack of staff was/is unacceptable. Vets are leaving as the environment is not that of which works for a medical industry. Numbers, numbers, numbers would be all this company cares about. Patients, clients, employees - still just numbers. The company in and of itself is an accounting company and doesn't employ anyone with real veterinary knowledge in the corporate office. Clinics are left scrambling with minimal support staff, and minimal support from head office. It's sad as a lot of great hospitals have now tanked from the lack of care from above them. 0/10 for client care, 0/10 for patient care and -100/10 for employee care. I will NEVER advise to work for this company nor work for them again myself. Worst employment experience of my entire life.
