I'm torn with this review. On the one hand all the other technicians I worked with at Vivint were awesome, and the paid for accommodation was in shiny new apartments. 

But the work life balance is horrendous. I know it's what you sign up for and the money is great, but you are basically on call from 11:00am all the way to 11pm, Monday to Saturday. This means you are constantly under stress of getting that next job, and it makes it impossible to plan anything for the whole summer. You'll think that you're clear for a few hours so you go to the gym, nope a job. So you decide you'll just wait around for that next job, but it never comes and you just waste your time.

But the real problem was the sales reps. Now there were some decent reps who I really respected. But then there were these sales reps that define sleeze. they would sell to people who had no business getting the system, would lie about what they included in the package and then leave the burden of explaining the price increase on the tech, which often led to some angry customers.

Also get ready to put A LOT of kilometers on your own vehicle as you'll be driving all day doing service calls.

Anyways, I've been in every type of home and met every type of person so in the end I'd say the experience was worth it.

One last thing, If you quit even a day early your bonus is void. Also your bonus is based off customer reviews, which wasn't so bad for me, but some guys would get a 1 because of something the rep did and it would destroy their bonus.

After the daily staff training, the Sales representatives would head to designated areas and begin prospecting for business. Usually before prime working hours (5-9pm) the representatives would gain as much information about the area and its inhabitants in order to develop a strategy for sales for that specific demography. As the type of sale was full cycle, it was important to acquire the right strategy in order to close the deal first time, on site. Due to the high level of sales training it is possible at times to have assigned an engineer en-route within 25 minutes of greeting the customer, even if the initial greeting was of negative reception. 

The management were excellent and coordinated the office very well.  My co-workers and I would all share the same grievances with this job - that it was very mentally tough. Dealing with constant rejection, on a day to day basis is challenging, but creates a foundation for good mental fortitude. 

The most enjoyable part of the job aside from the satisfaction of being paid after a difficult sale, would be the sales training that was offered. It is genuinely as good as the reputation it has. Without the training, I would not have made a single sale during the job, and would not have been able to consider it a successful time.

It is by far one of the best places I've worked, management and the teams all over Canada and US are amazing. Typically for my job, I was required to help around the office for the daily meetings and co-manage the office. After the meetings I along with others would take our vehicles and drive the sales people to area to start knocking on doors to make sales. Of course we had to lead by example, so we were out there every day with them.
We pushed for them to work hard and call us if any help is needed, we thrived on them beating our own numbers. The best part about the job is the fast pace environment and the family like team. We would always arrange events or BBQ's on weekends to hangout and do more team bonding.
The hardest part about the job was the door knocking at times, as much as I love it, it isn't always easy walking and grinding through storms, wind and everything else. It was what made the job so fun though, when you know its about to hail, it pushes you harder to get in the next home to make a sale.
The one thing I learned from this job is how to work hard, my work experience in the past before moving to Calgary in the oilfield I found was easier at times. I learned so many things from selling with Vivint, I'd like to take my knowledge to the next level and move up in the world.

I’ve been at Vivint a while now. I’ve been pushed to the point of wanting to quit multiple times in the past due to this being a very stressful job if you let it be. My area has a lot of tough child mentality Type customers. Lots of corporate politics that make no sense. My team and management are great however.  It is a very rewarding job. Revenue generation is the #1 most important aspect to the company and everything else comes second. Vivint has a great safety program. Saturdays are a must which sucks if you have a family with kids in school. Expect to not be home with them on Saturdays and during the week as they will be in school on your days off.  It’s also impossible to turn this job off and enjoy your days off as you can expect to be called and messaged by customers constantly. Overall every other negative is minuscule to the positives this company brings. Great pay, rewards and competitions based on revenue generation. Company assets are provided such as a vehicle/phone/tablet/tools, although they are closely monitored by management.  You feel like part of a family and the executives give you a chance to be heard which is extremely rare.  You feel genuinely cared about and respected by Vivint .

Vivint provided an amazing opportunity to learn and grow as a salesperson. The management is supportive and motivating. I learned basic life skills such as hard work, punctuality, goal setting, consistent studying. I also learned more specific sales skills such as prospecting, cold knocking, presenting, problem-solving, and closing. There were many incentives to motivate everyone to work hard. The most enjoyable part of my job was that I was rewarded for the hard work I put in, and the hardest part of my job was the fear of rejection, although I found that by taking action, it could be overcome. The concern I have with this job is that it is affected by the seasons. During the warmer times, such as summer, we work 6 days a week, 10-12 hours a day. However, during the winter when it gets dark and cold, knocking doors and finding qualified buyers becomes much more difficult. Overall it is an amazing experience and I recommend it for anyone looking to gain some sales experience.

Some positive aspects of being a technician for Vivint is that the busiest season for sales works with university summers, a perfect opportunity for students to avoid student debt. Another great opportunity is the customer service that you provide to customers is unique compared to other jobs. This provides an opportunity to build a relationship with customer. It is great to know you leave an install knowing you helped another person or family secure their home or business, often their most valuable things, including other family members. Along with the security most customers are happy about the system and feel like they gained a new toy to explore with the automation we offer. The company overall is great to their employee's. There is a substantial likelihood for you to learn new skills and expand old ones at this job.

HUGE sales pressure. Zero help for management. 

The good are the perks. Company truck, gas card, iPad and phone are all nice. Pay is reasonable most mostly based on huge much you sell. 
Now for the bad. Support team does not exist. Unless your trying to sell something nobody cares about your problem. Basically left to fend for yourself. The idea of work/life balance is laughable. Expected to pick up your phone 24/7, even on holidays. You schedule is constantly changing making planning your day near impossible. Customers are hit or miss. Most people are fairly upset because they realized they are paying WAY to much for literally the same thing you can buy at Costco for 1/8 of the price. Equipment is constantly faulty but you get grief every time you try and return something. Back end blames tech, tech blame the backend and managers are too useless to even pretend to care. Do yourself a favour and find any other employer. Heck flipping burgers at McDonald’s would be better then working for these soul sucker.

At 2pm you start knocking, and you go until around 10pm. You're dropped off alone in your area, rain or shine, to sell.

I learned a lot about self discipline, self motivation, and using time to your advantage. Nothing about talking to people scares me any more, after the brow beating you took on the average day. 

Everyone on the team is supportive and wants to see you succeed, the daily meetings kept track of everyone's progress, and offered feedback and tips for the coming day's work. Management always had your back and would help however they could. 

The hardest part of the job was definitely seeing days or weeks pass in which you would not make a single sale, or get into a single house. People can be really rude, and the rejection is always hard. 

The best parts of the job were the team building activities and incentives, like go karting or ping pong tournaments. The team had a huge sense of cameraderie, which made the days go by a lot easier.

At Vivint I went door to door speaking with cold contacts. Through our daily meetings, practice, and reading I learned how to make that process much easier for myself. Unfortunately my managers also shared the same position of door to door sales and therefore had a tough time giving us the proper resources to succeed because it's less for them. This severely effected my experience. This job was the most difficult job I have ever taken and constantly tested my will power. I was responsible for ten hours of knocking a day, as well as three textbooks approximately 200 pages in length to be completely during knocking season. Since this job was paid purely with commission there was no stopping. On the postive side, I worked in an office of 31 people that all shared the same tasks as me and the amount of teamwork and support within the office was outstanding.

The hardest job I’ve ever done but by far the most rewarding. Super good support system where everyone wants you to do well. You can work just a 4 month summer and do well enough to not have to work the rest of the year. I had 0 sales experience before this job and never thought I’d be good at sales but the training you get from the managers is like no other. Being away from family/friends for a summer is the best thing that ever happened to me and helped me have a super successful summer my first year. My parents and friends were against the idea of me leaving and going to a different city and knocking doors for a summer but I wanted to prove all my friends wrong and that’s also what ultimately helped do well that summer. Any advice to rookies I can give is put in all the hours and stay positive through all the ups and downs.
