Management at VIVO appears to lack clear communication channels, leadership direction, and a genuine concern for the well-being of its employees. The lack of transparency regarding decision-making processes and organizational changes has fostered an atmosphere of uncertainty and anxiety among the staff.

The toxic work culture is palpable, with evident favoritism, lack of appreciation for hard work, and an overall atmosphere that stifles creativity and personal growth. The leadership seems disconnected from the day-to-day struggles of the employees, leading to an overarching sense of frustration and disillusionment.
Moreover, the absence of effective conflict resolution mechanisms has allowed interpersonal issues to fester, contributing to an unhealthy and unproductive work environment. The morale of the team is noticeably low, and the turnover rate reflects the broader dissatisfaction with the management and the company's culture.

The lack of emphasis on employee well-being is particularly concerning. There is a pervasive feeling that the company prioritizes its bottom line over the mental and emotional health of its workforce. The absence of initiatives to address burnout, stress, and work-life balance exacerbates the challenges faced by employees on a daily basis.


Vivo has a vision that is good in theory but the way the employees are treated in regards to wage and job security is horrendous. 

I have had a lot of jobs in recreation and I can say with the upmost confidence that Vivo is the most toxic facility I have ever worked in.  Unfortunately the upper management at this facility micromanages everything and they are only seeking for "yes" type people, anything else gets removed. In my time there, we would receive roughly 1 email per week regarding someone who was terminated. They claim to have a wonderful screening process for candidates, yet those candidates tend to not last long in any role. Once I saw this trend, I quickly chose to leave and seek alternate employment as I wanted and continue to not want any association with this organization. 

For those considering a career at Vivo, please consider the warnings of others and if you choose to pursue this pathway, I would recommend walking on egg shells. No matter how good you are at your job, you will never be perfect enough and will eventually end up as an "effective immediately" email should you have human error, bring good ideas that aren't agreed with, or say "no" to the wrong person. 

This is not to say that everyone at the facility within management is bad, this is just to say that there are a few rotten apples and unfortunate for everyone, they run the show.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Management was incompetent in the worst sense. The HR person I talked to when I started was only there "for a few months," leading me to suspect that it was a revolving-door culture. Don't work here. I was let go without cause, even though I was told that they "had a lifeguard shortage." No, they have a competent Manager/Owner shortage. They could use some more brains while they're at it. 

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Very absent and confusing. I kept getting asked personal questions about my job. Very invasive to say the least. 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
I once had to stop a 6 year-old kid from peeing in front of everybody in the pool area. The parent didn't scold or punish the kid at all, only told me "sorry" and left with the kid. Lots of things like that happened there. My coworkers were indifferent to the whole affair.

Good if you’re in school and need some extra cash on the side. Coworkers were usually pretty nice when it came to the front line staff, but the higher management acted like they were high up and almighty. When first hired people have said don’t be surprised if they let you go randomly, cause apparently it’s what they love to do.... and they were correct. They let people go for “downsizing” all the time. Don’t try to make a career out of this place because it won’t happen at this Rec centre. They let go of many people within a span of a week and now (a few months later) they are hiring for the same positions when they let go of the staff 3 months ago? They do not know what they are doing it’s pretty sad, ESPECIALLY after the pandemic hit and gyms started reopening. Charging customers and not holding memberships and initially giving no refund and all staff had to take all the blow with little help of management. There’s just so many little things which add up to making this place not worth working for. 

I worked here for a number of years,  rarely did I ever feel appreciated.  I often went above and beyond my job role, to help customers or coworkers.  Customers were actually very nice and I became friends with quite a few.
 But I didn’t find the culture very warm,  especially regarding managers.  You definitely could see favouritism happening.
 You can exercise here for free which is a benefit,  and get your family in on a less expensive rate.  But like most companies they are quick to judge and criticize if you do something wrong.  And never complementary when you do something to be very helpful to the company or customers.
 They are definitely toxic people who have worked here especially in the management positions.

It is a volunteer work for High School but it was still a great life experience. As an athletic person, volunteering here was enjoyable and educational. My job was to make sure children ages, 12 and up, were having a technology free activities. The best part of it was sharing my knowledge and skills about various sports that I am involved in such as volleyball. However, the hardest part of my job was to try and encourage other children to play cooperatively and playing within the rules. Fortunately, I am a very patient person and can work at times of difficulty and chaos. Volunteering here taught me patience and teamwork.

Vivo pays well relative to other facilities. The organization keeps "restructuring" and strong-arms you into taking on more work with little training. Most times the additional work does not come with a raise. 
They allow flexible working hours which helps a lot with work-life balance. Everyone is very friendly. However, there is low job security and many people are often let go for no apparent reason. 

Vivo is an amazing place to work. They have flexibility in scheduling and look at promoting from within. The management is understanding of school schedules and promotes a positive environment surrounded by enjoyable people.

Hourly staff are overworked and underpaid. Most of the staff is amazing but one of the top managers will do anything to sabotage staff if they stand their ground if they are being used as a scapegoat for mistakes made by that manager. Currently a very toxic environment. 

The whole employment system is very well organized. Management is kind and fair. A typical day is very relaxed and intended to make sure the customer gets the most out of their experience. Employees are encouraged to have fun, within reason, on the job too as it transfers to the customers.
