Vogue Optical

Absolutely no opportunity for advancement for sales consultants, only Opticians
Poor employee retention. Management delegates training of new employees to current staff members resulting in doubling your workload and without additional compensation. Consistently understaffed, leading to burnout and high stress levels. Store manager often does not divulge necessary communications from Head Office, leading to a restrictive environment. Poor work life balance, as you are contacted outside of work hours, and management will tell you it is your responsibility to cover your shift in the event you are sick. Management expects employees to handle internal conflicts and fails to take charge themselves, resulting in poor morale
Management receives the recognition for overall sales completed by the store staff members. Lack of equal pay/ fair wage transparency for staff. 
Pizza and snacks are poor substitutes for a liveable wage.
No way to gage your success...reviews are not conducted in a consistent quarterly 
or yearly manner. 
 Lack of proper work delegation, bad behavior/poor performance are not dealt with appropriately by manager. Extremely poor work culture, no HR,  no staff meetings, staff information shared and gossipped amongst other stores, very unprofessional management. 
Does not consistently adhere to company policies or code of conduct.
Work duties include; opening and or closing of store, receiving/shipping/processing returns of goods or products. Selling frames/rx lenses/coatings to customers, processing insurance claims, cleaning finished eyewear, contacting customers in lieu of delays/eyewear ready for pickup/updates and or inquiries of goods and or services, vacuuming store, cleaning all items on display, cleaning of all work areasin front and back of /restroom/lunchroom area, ordering stock supplies/goods/frames/Rx lenses. Pricing of all products/stocking shelves/storage of products. Handling customer inquiries and or complaints. Dispense eyewear products to customers, ensuring accuracy and proper fitting of eyewear. Repairs/adjustments to eyewear at customer's request. Contacting suppliers to follow-up on product orders and or delays. Training of new staff members on all of the aforementioned above.

Quite a fast paced environment between patients coming out of the doctors office to look for glasses, passing glasses for inspection, verifying lenses coming from the major lab, managing the phones, problem solving patient issues, etc. Can be quite overwhelming. 

I do mainly enjoy the people I work with now but when someone has a day off or calls in sick there can be a little resentment there. Coworkers with health issues who need to take time off for appointments are almost not forgiven. Not being able to find childcare is not forgiven sometimes. Makes it seem like your child can’t be your first priority and work must come first. I feel like you can’t have major health issues or young children at this job just to feel respected. 

Bonuses are every 3 months which can be nice when the store is doing well, although it is majorly taxed. 

Raises are very hard to get. Proving yourself to upper management seems to be brushed off. Even when a raise is conducted, it is not very much. In this day and age with minimum wages increasing, our salary remains the same which in my opinion is not right. Education seems to be worthless when the company won’t even pay opticians fairly. Opticians in other provinces are being paid way more. Even other companies, opticians are being being paid more. 

I wish Vogue Optical/Newlook Vision truly valued their employees and treated them with fair wages. So many of us struggling with our current salaries when upper management is guaranteed making 80-100k+.

Answer telephones and direct calls to appropriate staff.
Schedule and confirm patient diagnostic appointments, surgeries, or medical consultations.
Greet visitors, as certain purpose of visit, and direct them to appropriate staff.
Operate office equipment, such as voice mail messaging systems, and use word processing, spreadsheet, or other software applications to prepare reports, invoices, financial statements, letters, case histories, or medical records.
Complete insurance or other claim forms.
Interview patients to complete documents, case histories, or forms, such as intake or insurance forms.
Receive and route messages or documents, such as laboratory results, to appropriate staff.
Compile and record medical charts, reports, or correspondence, using typewriter or personal computer.
Transmit correspondence or medical records by mail, e-mail, or fax.
Maintain medical records, technical library, or correspondence files.
Perform various clerical or administrative functions, such as ordering and maintaining an inventory of supplies.

preform visual fields as well as OCT tests with patients
Perform bookkeeping duties, such as credits or collections, preparing and sending financial statements or bills, and keeping financial records.

Was working for another company when it was purchased by Vogue. Pay and staff discounts were immediately less at all levels, and our commission program from our previous employer was cut after being told it would continue. Health plans cost twice as much and are no longer full coverage.  There’s way more work at the store level expected of management and employees, with countless spreadsheets of information that they already have access to at head office. All systems are from the 80’s and you can rarely get ahold of anyone for help with anything in a timely manner. We were satisfied with our old employer, but are now deeply unhappy, on top of struggling financially in ways we weren’t before. 

Co workers are great and super sweet and helpful. Management talked down to people are made the need not appreciated. Way more negative feedback from manger/regional manger that postive acts like they are there to support you and want to see staff improve and grow but do not give enough training and leave new staff to figure out things on there owe. Then berate you for getting something wrong.  Not felxabie with hours to help maintain a good work life balance. Doctors are super friendly and nice and helpful. Management needs a whole lot of training on properly managing a store and on how to speak to employees. With proper training for staff and management this could be a great place to work.

Meeting new people, helping people and having every weekend off.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Having to deal with so called managers that didn’t know how to do their job.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Very two faced and back stabbing.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
The job itself was very busy dealing with the public, especially when the sales people were too busy hiding out back and you had to play hide and seek all day.

They don’t give raises and stopped giving bonuses years ago as well. Bonuses were only given if they weren’t giving a raise. Now nothing is given with higher expectations. Always pushing you for more with nothing in return. Used to be a pretty good company to work for until New Look took over and worked their ways into the company. You can easily make $5/hour more elsewhere. Staffing issues get ignored or not taken seriously so morale is low on top of not getting fair pay 

Lovely culture and people but terrible pay. Very inconsistent wages and there is no cost of living raises or even regular raises after so many hours worked etc.  I love the job and the people but unfortunately that doesn’t pay the mortgage and it’s hard to stay loyal when you can make 5-10 dollars an hour more pretty much anywhere else.
Vogue needs to catch up with the times and start paying their employees.

I worked at vogue optical for many years and although I did love my job, I ultimately found that there was next to no room for growth. Promotions were basically non existent and pay increases happened less than annually. The pay scale to start was also well below average. Overall a good company but they need to give their employees a reason to stay.

It's not a bad job, it's pretty much like every other part time job. Make sure the store is tidy, help customers and do all the other little things required to keep your store the well oiled machine that it is.
You really should like customer service though, or else you're in the wrong field of work.
