Voice Construction OPCO ULC

In regards to my position with this company, a typical day was fast paced and productive, always striving to develop more efficient construction plans to stay ahead of schedule and under budget.

The management was very approachable and supportive. They displayed keen business acumen and always welcomed ideas. Always professional and promoting a team environment.

The work culture was one of respect and camaraderie. The project crews were quite close and worked well together. 
Everyone was able to depend on each others skill and position.

The hardest part of the job was having to layoff great workers at the end of the project.

The most enjoyable part of the job was when the crew would come together in unison to support deadline completion and critical objectives. The high morale and sense of team accomplishment that ensued thereof proved quite rewarding for all.

i enjoy my job it keeps me busy im always reliable im good at what i do. 
if you enjoy what you do work shouldnt have a hard part.
i enjoy everything i do and  the people i work with but just sunday october 5 got a call saying the job has come to an end.

I worked with Voice for 5 years on various sites and my experience with them was nothing but stellar. I went from being an apprentice to a GF with them and they gave me nothing but there full support. While some of the comments about the company are true (they can be very cliquey and i was a part of this) it most due to the family environment they are trying to breed. If your a hard worker, on time and do the task your assigned they will treat you like gold. If you whine, miss shifts an just stand around you won't last. My last few month with Voice were not the best but that had to do with the new management then anything else. If i had the chance to work with Voice again i would do it in a heart beat.

Excellent operators/ foreman's,but Superintendent was a lunatic .Lead Safety girl or i should say teenager with no people skills or safety skills and was only in that position because she was buddys with the company Super , Little girls club rules and favoritism.You have no one you can turn to who will listen to your concerns and if you do tell them, then you get "Laid Off" without a reason then they replace you even when you report a avoidable  incident/situation ...it goes right under the rug and your deemed a troublemaker.You do not have a Voice at Voice.They did not practice what the preach which leaves you to guess on what the right thing to do is.Very Unfortunate

- Tank Pad final grade experience, level earth to fine grade specifications and check slopes for conformance to requirements using levels or lasers. Grade and level trench bases by Topcon lasers use of  tamping machines and hand tools, Cover pipes with sand or other materials such clay. Work on building new sites, roads, pipe lines in order to support and assist skilled people, load and unload building materials and move materials towards working areas. Level earth by means of rakes and shovels, remove debris and trash at construction sites by means of wheelbarrows and other equipment and manage traffic at or near construction sites.

WIth the down turn in the economy and so many other people laborers and heavy equipment operators
available. The longer term employees  myself included, 5 years of service are expendable and are replaced by site management buddies. This is quite evident at Plains Midstream in Ft. Sask.  It's not a case of what you know and how much knowledge you have or how long you have worked for Voice Const. It's a case of who you know and on this site who in management your a buddy with. It's to bad some sites are like this and this one is, but that's what happens when supervision is like bunch of kids.

Hired and laid off within 2 months.
They hired to many people for the project.
Half the time they didnt have enough work for the amount of people they had. Project was in fort saskatchewan,under road builders agreement. 
Pay was awful ,33$ an hour for finish excavator operator.
Schedule was not bad 2 weeks on 1 off.
Except they would give you random days off mostly weekends when its time and a half or double time.
I saw this job as an opportunity to join the union but i got laid off when i was 50 hours away from having the minimum amount of hours to join. And i wasnt the only one they did the same thing to.

I have worked for Voice off and on over the last few years as an equipment operator. They have usually treated me well and often hired me back when work was available. The only issues I have really seen is that if you are a non-white or a woman, your chances of being trained on different pieces of equipment or moving up into management are slim to none. This company is still very archaic in their thinking and methods. 
Great company to work for, just don’t expect to move up unless you’re part of the old boys club.

I worked hard because that was what I was paid for, but there were others who were not as hard working and got extra days of work. I was often called for safety violations because of work I had done under direction from foremen(?) I do not think there was a chance for advancement as they already had their friends picked out to move ahead. I have requested, on numerous occasions, information, i.e., ROE"S, pay info, safety ticket. and have gotten little or no help.

The problem with one of the supers is his attitude that "It is his way or the highway".  We would have the equipment moving very cost efficient and he would show up and change things and it would go downhill from there.  This super had worked there for over 20 years and he still did not know anything.  Poor, poor, poor.  Some of the supers were excellent though.  They are now bankrupt and I can see old man Voice turning in his grave.  I know a few people that are glad they are bankrupt.  This happens very often when you think you are so important that you buy your own company jet.
