What is the best part of working at the company?

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
The lack of spoken English, the lack of time off, the lack of real training. That being said they are looking at those factors and everyone is good people for the most part. 

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
The culture is changing in Volker, they are working towards a better work life balance. It does become difficult when most of the company speaks and works in a highly middle eastern manner in Canada. I'm proud of my immigrant friends, it did borderline impossible for me to be successful and at times dangerous when I do speak the language of my country and no one around me could. 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
the typical days were a lot of yelling for no real good reason. the work itself wasn't terrible but the constant yelling and panic over things that didn't require yelling and panic, in arabic, definitely made the job more difficult.

The Fort McMurray working culture is very demanding especially in the seasonal road building construction business.  Work days are long and consumed most of ones time from April - October with the winter months catching up on paper work.  
Although the pace of working for this company was extreme I was able to gain a great deal of knowledge and understanding of how the road construction industry works.  
Direction given to me by the owner and the construction manager, their willingness to teach me all the aspects of the business was greatly appreciated. 
The most enjoyable part of the job was being able to work independently with minimal supervision. Every day brought new challenges, making the day to day decisions for the safety department on a regular basis was rewarding as the knowledge gained thru the years was now being put to the test.

Advancement here has little to do with performance and everything to do with who you know. Promotions and key opportunities consistently go to those with personal connections to leadership, which creates a culture where hard work goes unrecognized and talented people leave.
Compensation is well below market rate and raises are minimal regardless of contribution or tenure. When you raise concerns about pay, the response is dismissive rather than constructive.
New employees are largely left to figure things out on their own. There’s no structured onboarding, mentorship is nonexistent, and management is either unavailable or uninterested in your development.
Advice to Management:
Build a merit-based culture. Pay people what they’re worth. Invest in your people from day one — retention starts with making employees feel valued, not just employed.

I have been working at McNally for over 15 years now and I have been very happy with my experience. I have been given the opportunity to work on a variety of projects and have been able to learn a lot about the industry. The people at McNally are very friendly and helpful. I have been given the opportunity to work with a variety of people and have been able to learn a lot from them.

Volker Stevin is a fantastic company to work for! Many great benefits, working outside, lots of room for advancement, great people to work with. They offer many different divisions to work in, lots of opportunity to operate several different types of equipment. Good physical work making a healthy lifestyle. They give you the winters off to go on a hot vacation or enjoy outdoor sports such as skiing, hockey, snowmobiling, etc. They believe highly in safety, and training their employees, as well as promoting from within. If you want an outdoor physical job that offers a great environment and many benefits, Volker Stevin is the place for you!

Work is good but the foreman and supervisors are tyrannical. Nepotism is rampant, with one Lebanese family dictating the entire experience you are gonna have there. If you are family or friend of that family you will be fine. If not, try another place for employment. If you make any mistakes you are threatened with your job and are black balled if you upset any one within that family. It would be a great place to work if they were to look it the future of their company, with more diversity within tier walls.

The pay was really good, I got 20 an hour and would often get overtime which boosts the paycheque. It is hard work but you get paid for it. Management is pretty good, they were accommodating to when I asked for am extra day off here and there but the culture for a general labourer is to work a lot and not to ask for time off. If you don't mind construction as much you might do fine here as they pay you well but if you have a busier season you could work 55 or 60 hours plus per week and end up hating it. If you like construction the company is great because there is room to advance.

a typical work day with this company is working 12hrs/day 7 or 6 days a week with no 15 or 30 minute breaks and dangerous circumstances as the foreman operating the grader and the job not being completed on time and the labours almost getting run over by the grader.
working for a company should feel relaxing, safe and not exhausting  after a 12 hour work day. This company does not have the greatest working environment  because foreman's select who they like without taking the time to get to know someone.

What is the best part of working at the company?
Your last day of work, treat you like #%&^ while they have smile on thete face.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
The people who have been working there for awhile think you have to do all the work while they sit around.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Cancerous they'll make foll at home at first then boom!! Your a piece of s^^$$ in no time


What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Some as before its a s&* job equipment is juck trucks brake down, they blame you for everything.

Typical day at work would start with driving out to a rig road to blade it or out to a lease to haul material. 
I learned how to run packer and haul truck and grader here. Management was really good at taking me on when I had no seat time. They really gave me a chance in operating. 
The hardest part of the job was the learning curve, and that there are no set days off. You don't really have a schedule.
The most enjoyable part of the job, was a crew truck and fuel was provided for me to get from site to site. I also had great trainers and crew members to show me what to do when I was stuck on something.
