WHITEVALE GOLF CLUB

I will preface this by saying Whitevale wasn’t always run how it is now.. covid and politics have mixed things up. Nonetheless, this Golf Course is a disaster. I would liken it to working with a bunch of chickens running around with their heads cut off. Lower management is catty & blames everything on workers. GM will micromanage you any chance he gets, then fake nice to you around the members. If you’re on cart or in halfway house its decent, you can mostly do your own thing until people come along. In the clubhouse though, be prepared for “co-workers” who do 0 work whatsoever. Tips are pooled & split, recipe for laziness because everyone gets the same $$ regardless of the work they put in. You will not be compensated or rewarded for serving every table while they sit & text. Chef makes great food but is a total a******. I will say the work-life balance is amazing!! Because you can just not show up for your shifts consequence free !! You get to choose all your own hours & have total flexibility, that rocks. The golf is a great perk too (when you’re allowed to.. aka pre covid).

It’s a great place to work if you enjoy the outdoors and working with others. The people you work with are the best part. In the turf department most of the people will be close to your age and some a little older, tasks are always straight forward, but always have to move in a timely manner to stay ahead of golfers. 

Everyone here is high-spirited and have some way of liking golf. Great place to be for students. 

There’s not much advancement though, pay isn’t that great, but you never have to worry about the hours you’re getting because it’s full time 40 hours Monday to Friday and you work every other weekend for three hours each day. 

This job is unique, simply because unlike most restaurants or bars, you do not make any tips. This I found to be a very positive experience when entering the industry, because it enforced the importance of customer service. You have the opportunity to interact with amazing members and staff, making it a very fun and positive work environment, even with the occasional late night shift.

Typical day at work: Selling snacks, sandwiches and beverages
Assisting in the Dining Room if it is quiet or the weather is bad

Most enjoyable part of the job: Interacting with the Guests/Members

Enjoyed my time there, it was a very good team environment. The Superintendent and Assistant Superintendent were both easy going and approachable as long as you did your job. Co workers there from the students, to the adults who have worked there for many years were all excellent and helpful to work with.

The general manager is a buffoon.  They can't retain great employees here due to lack of leadership and weak management.

Lots of false promises.  

I advise to simply show up, perform no more than is asked for, take their money and leave knowing that nobody cares about you so why bother going above and beyond.

Managers were amazing but the golfers were aholes. The managers were nice but stern there were sometimes some inconsistency and half the coworkers won’t do much work but it’s a nice place to work in the summer then have winters off. 

It is a great place to work with nice people everywhere. From the members to the staff, everyone is treated with the respect they deserve. You also get free rounds of golf and free drinks while working.

Whitevale is the worst golf course with the worst management. All other golf courses will pay you better and you won’t need to deal with half the stuff they make you deal with here. 

Must battle the weather but mostly a fun place to work, lots of hours and outdoor work. Always a good student atmosphere, but that comes with minimum wage.
