I worked in a challenging social work environment because it was working with hard-to-house clients with difficult issues (comorbid substance abuse and mental health issues and physical health issues with regular eviction)  For the most part I had good managers. There was a certain amount of turnover and there was, as there is in a lot of social service agencies, a certain amount of turnover.  
 When I left it was because a nightmare manager came in and there were a few bad managers that caused a lot of turnover around that time. Up until that time you had a lot of people who stayed even though the job was quite challenging.  It was a unionized organization so the pay was decent and the benefits were okay too. One of the best parts of working there was working in the team and I had a good experience with HR. I learned a lot of things about working with difficult clientele, community resources and innovative ways to support at-risk individuals with substance use disorders and seniors.

Working at Wood Green Community services was an amazing experience, the working conditions and working environment was awesome.
I leant a lot from wood Green Community services, we work as a team and the culture of the place is so awesome. The management is surpeb, though at times the job appears to be abit tuff especially when dealing with clients suffering from addiction problems, no withstanding due to the togetherness , unity and collaboration that exists amongst us the employees and the employer I find happiness in all I do at work. 

To advance in this organization you will be required to do a lot of as* kissing.  Generally, friends hire their friends and if you don't fit the mold of this inner circle you will not advance.  

On several occasions, Management have told their own qualified staff members to their face, "don't waste your time applying", because they already have the ideal candidate in mind, when it came to a chance for a promotion.  Very bias, discriminatory practices for many, many years in this organization.  But, because they write good reports to their funders, they remain in operation.  They also do some good work in the community but, they do a lot of damage to their own staff internally.  Low morale.  Low pay.  Good benefits. 

-typical day=assisting the resident with their ADLs, cleaning, medications, grocery shopping, medical escorts, safety checks, conversation with the residents, reporting leading to referrals, charting, e-mailings updates, promoting independence
-learned= diverse culture, listening skills, individual preferences and choices
-managment=supportive & educative
-co-worker=great teamwork, collaborative
-hardest part of the job=when the help  for the client is out-of reach & their struggle and suffering is unavoidable or uncontrollable
-most enjoyable part of the job= seeing the smile on the care-receiver and the little difference and positiveness I can bring to the client to make their day a little better.

My experience in the beginning was good, but I switched supervisors a bunch due to changes in programming expectations. I found this quite stressful as I felt I never knew who I was really reporting to and it was always changing. I really enjoyed working with the clients and my first supervisor, as I felt very supported and I loved my clients. The salary isn't that great for what you have to do, but the benefits and sick time are good. There is a lot of high turnover, though. 

I help people and families with low-income to ufile the tax return with other volunteers from different countries. I check all the documents, calculate the numbers if necessary,inquire of our clients something needed,then Ufile to CRA.The hardest part of the job is to make sure the  accuracy of returns and that income tax refunds were maximized.I am learning so much from it, such as relevant policy,time management ,Tax Return skills in different situations, and communication skills and so on. I really enjoy the nice feeling after I finish doing it and seeing the smile on my clients' face, especially enjoy helping people from my country.

Unfortunately, for an organization that advocates for access to services and employment equity they do not mirror that in their hiring practices. Mostly contract work and below level pay and no benefits. Also, middle --> upper management at the organization has very mediocre leadership skills and puts the responsiblity on employees to figure it out. My skills and potential were not valued nor utilized.

Action to The Disadvantaged at All vision-able opportunity.  Access to opportunity is free at this heavy multi-location for East Toronto.  Activating all of my job description is stress free from management.  The Disadvantaged are who sponsors public opportunities from and through government recognition.  Taking what they activate from them-self to me; apply modern solutions.
