At WOW Mobile Boutique, job security is non-existent from associates to managers, DMs, and even at head office. The company is controlled by a specific clique, and if you don't fit in, you're out. Your loyalty, personal sales, and store performance mean nothing if you're not favored.

Favoritism is rampant at every level – associates, managers, DMs, and HR. Favored managers become team leads who then act disrespectfully during conference calls. Other managers must tolerate this or risk being terminated. Eventually, these favored managers become DMs if they are the regional manager's favorite, regardless of their work performance or education. 

The company tries to compete with Glentel (since most employees are ex-Glentel), using similar behaviors and tactics. However, lacking the budget or resources, they pressure managers and associates to source out sales. If a new hire doesn't perform within three months, they can be fired without reason. Otherwise, they will start writing you up for performance issues.

There is no work-life balance. You always have to be available, constantly checking your phone for ongoing promotion communications. Even on your days off, you are expected to answer calls and participate in conference calls.

In high-traffic locations, you might make money, but it takes a toll on your mental health. The only profitable months are August, September, November, and December. The rest of the year feels like a waste of time and energy. While telecom is a great industry, if you want proper learning and financial gain, I would recommend Glentel and corporate stores only.

A typical day would include readying the store for customers i.e. cleaning, merchandising and facing product, as well as updating pricing grids for current promotional offers, etc. Additionally, completing daily operational duties like auditing past sales, ordering merchandise and performing inventory counts. After the store is ready to sell, we're to take to the sales floor and begin attracting customer and business to our kiosk. Engaging mall traffic and determining their sales needs will help us to narrow down which phone, carrier and plan is right for them. After we've figured it all out and the customer is ready to buy, we discuss add-ons like accessories and device protection to bulk up the sale.

I'm good at my job, but I do not enjoy being in the high pressure sales environment. I learned this at my stay at WOW! mobile boutique.

My coworkers and management were both amazing. I've made some really fantastic relationships with the people I worked with at WOW! mobile boutique, and some that I hope are lifelong.

The hardest part of my job is the high pressure sales environment that is retail. The constant pressure from head office about numbers and attach rates, etc. is overwhelming.

The most enjoyable part of the job was being able to really help my customers, their families and provide them with a service that they needed.

WOW! has been a great place to work over the last 6+ years, and it's been an incredible experience seeing the company evolve and grow during this time into the perservering organization that it is, today. 

Our leadership listens intently to the field, and most ideas that are implemented in both sales and operations company-wide come from our Store Managers. We've all had many chances to give our own two cents when it comes to solving a problem or doing something better. 

The level of investment both financially and people-related is exceptional, and I can truly say this company has piloted some incredible training over the years, and has been recognized internationally for the investment from Head Office and the Field. 

The sales and people cultures are strong, but this is not a place of push-overs - Leadership will ask for commitment to standards, but it's because no one is exempt from the oinfluence of standards in the business. Standards and People are the culture, and both are defended and enriched with conviction and energy. 

It's a great place to work and get your start in sales, or make a career move to take on Management in a company that will continue to develop you, even if that development grows into people finding specific growth opportunities elsewhere. The investment in people is constant, and the Carrier Parters are awesome.

Worked as a part timer from 2017-2019 for various locations. The workplace can be lots of fun but it really depends on the people on your team. They provide great training so you don't have to worry about not knowing the products/plans. Be ready to stand and walk around the kiosk for your entire shift. Schedules were somewhat flexible (depending on the manager). 

Sales targets were mostly reasonable and attainable. I've seen people not hit targets for months and not get fired so don't worry too much about the targets. 

Their *new* commission structure does not benefit part timers that don't work as many hours as full timers. I worked during 2 different structures and the back when I first started, I made much more commission compared to what they have in place now. STILL, this job is much better than a part time job with no commission. 

This job was really satisfying to me because I was actually able to help a lot of people save money by matching them to a more suitable plan or phone company. Some people just need help with their phones and helping them find solutions without making a sale was fun too.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Some Co workers lack integrity and morals, and really lack common sense and have child like traits, I really think this is the worst workplace in Canada, the Devonshire location at least 

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Everyone for themselves unless you haven’t known them for years. Selfish and overall immature I will say if you are close to a level they will help you out only if you are best friends with them, one of them literally let a sale go because of pettiness but the Tecumseh location is completely different everyone is cool over there 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Clock in Stand outside the kiosk and try to get customers to come talk to you while your co workers stand inside the kiosk the whole time and get all the walk ins because you are to busy getting ignored by the mall, and then when you get someone, your foreign co worker calls them over using there language so they leave and go to him instead and your manager complains about lack of sales on your second month working. While she is a key factor on why that is. Clock out

WOW! Mobile is still a relatively new company in an already over saturated wireless/telecom industry. It has a unique perspective when it comes to providing its services, focusing heavily on providing personalized, unbiased advice to consumers.
However, upper management is severely lacking, with minimal or no room for growth for employees. The company promotes an overall relaxed sales culture, free from the demands that a commission based structure typically requires. However, oftentimes targets are not realistic, with little emphasis placed on appropriate sales coaching measures.
Overall, the company does offer a good work environment with access to the newest technology and competitive market offers, but there is little room for growth or advancement.

Firstly, do not work for this company. Poor commission and bonus structure. Commission is never enough when the store is always over staffed and have unrealistic targets based on the hours worked. Ex. 70+ sales in 38 hr work week. When you don't make the sales, you get written up and are forced to sign the document. No other corporate telecom stores write up their ASMs. No room for growth and DMs and LP play favorites. Lets re-itterate underpaid and always pressured by upper management to make sales (even when there are no customers or clients). They have a culture where they say they believe in "people first" yet they wont hesitate to call you on any given day to come in to "make a sale" and use other means to increase sales.

Absolutely toxic way of treating people for the salary they are given. No job security at all in this company. Always threathen to get fired or be written up for not hitting target.

Avoid at all costs. Don't get lewered into great commission nonsense or room for growth aka climb the ladder especially if you have a degree. 

This is a very stressful place to work. Sales is the only thing that matters. Wow promises a strong coaching culture where they will constantly coach you to help you improve, but the district manager doesn’t actually do it. If you are struggling they just get rid of you instead of actually helping you. I’ve seen this happen to several managers. There is zero job security at this company, even at the head office level. On the other hand if you sell, you can pretty much do whatever you want and they will turn a blind eye. If your friends with certain people at head office you will get a promotion, if you’re not then don’t waste your time.
As a manager you have no work/life balance. Your constantly working overtime unpaid, and you have to constantly communicate with staff even after you leave for the day. Dm expect managers to send reports, answer emails and go on conference calls on your days off and vacations.  The only positive aspect of this job is that it pays well and you make commission so if that’s all you care about then you will love it.

The company is currently managed by individuals who lack professionalism and integrity. District Managers (DMs) are directing staff to manipulate the sales process to achieve results. Advancement and opportunities are given preferentially to those with personal connections to the DMs. Upper management disregards employee feedback, perceiving it as negativity rather than constructive input. Complaints directed to HR are forwarded back to the DMs, who are often the subjects of those complaints. Additionally, the company is cutting corners on essential aspects of operations, leading to a situation where only a select few employees, who are favored, receive recognition and advancement.Latest example, Selection of DTLs.. DM friends got selected without any interview…

I learnt  a number of different information on the 5 different companies.I learnt how to sell and inform customers on the variety of mobile options. Working for this company, I benefited in learning the communication skills and management skills. Furthermore, to gain the trust of the customers.This company has taught me to thrive and to push myself for the unknown. In result, I have applied those lessons to my daily life. Everyday is a lesson to be learned, taught and appreciated in the long run. As for the management, the staff, the company was family oriented. I always looked forward to going to work, knowing that I was going to see the people with the same mentality. As a team player within a team we looked out for each other.
