WR Corn Detasseling

It's a very "manual" yet "automatic"

..what I mean by this is that you're assigned a row and in this row you're required to pick all (if not, most) of the tassels from the corn stalks, upon reaching the end of said row you wait or help other detasselers in their rows and adjourn back to your row. 

This job is all about teamwork and precision, perfect experience for large, busy jobs in the future.

The mornings are wet and I found that my poncho didn't always help and that my pants and shirt were, at the end of the day, both soaked with sweat and water.

Tassels can cause cuts. (Wear short sleeved shirts and shorts at own risk)

To conclude this summary; the work is hard and slow but by the end of the season the pay is worth the pain.

A typical day would be getting on a bus at 6:00 am, going to a company wide gather to determine teams for the day. Then driving out to corn fields in the county and picking the tassels off the stock for the rest of the day. With a break for lunch in the middle. The hardest part of the job was picking the tassel, because sometimes the corn stock is taller than you so it gets hard to pull the tassel out, which is on the very top of the stock. The most enjoyable part was walking through the fields, because there is not much to think about.

If you are having a tough time getting a job as a student, corn detasseling for WR is always a good option. You work for 3-4 weeks and can easily make over $1000. This job isnt for everyone, it requires a lot of physical strength as well as mental. Working all summer in the heat can take a toll on people, so make sure you are prepared for the working environments.

The job was very physical. Wake up early, get to bus stop, work the fields despite the weather, and walk home at the end of the day. The job teaches you time management while still meeting the standards of the company. The hardest part about the job is working out side, rain or shine. However the co-workers are super supportive. A great way to make quick money and make new friends.

Everyone is always rushing to get to one place or another. It's usually extremely hot and you work through all sorts of different weather. Without taking precautions, one may get blisters on their feet and corn rash on their body.

The pay for the job is good and they accept high school students. Overall, if you take care of yourself: it's a pretty good job!

Great place to work in the summer for high school students. The atmosphere is enjoyable, friendly, safe and supportive. The leaders were awesome to work with and very understanding if unable to work every day of the week. The typical day consisted of doing one or two fields depending on the size.

A good starter job, working at WR taught me about good morals and work ethic.  It  was not a strenuous job, paid well for the time put in and provided a great and friendly atmosphere. For young people looking for work I would highly recommend working at WR.

Get up and walk to take the bus.I have learn that it's a physical job management are good with me it's fun to meet new friends. Hardest part is when you work when it's wet.and most enjoyable is to have new friends and the paycheck.

I pulled the tassels out of the corn stalks I learned how to work hard and push myself to keep going I liked the people there and the boss and the best part was that we had fun and I meet new friends the worst part was the hot weather

it was a good first good but its not something i want to continue to do as i'm in college and would be not be easy to do, also it is only a summer job, i want to work all year , but part time because of college.
