After working within this set-up for almost 10 years, If I knew what I knew at the end that I knew at the beginning, I wouldn't have bothered.
Firstly, this company hide behind their history-best of British, their behaviours that works to suit them and the snobbery that goes along with it. The processes, the meetings and the management set-up is shocking, I worked in a shop with 5 managers and none of them knew anything. Basically if you want to work for a company where you have no soul and you are willing to bow down to every command, apply, however if you see yourself as an individual, forget it. Oh and partnership is just a front, there isn't any!

People I worked with were very nice and helpful for the most part. My shifts were fixed each week which made planning around them easy, and OT was only voluntary. Managers were very understanding around sick days and holiday days. Place was a bit understaffed, so sometimes you'd be the only person on a 4-person job for multiple hours leading to us falling behind, but ultimately not too much stress involved either. Can get very boring and monotonous, but that's what you expect with these types of jobs.

Really good salary & work/life balance as well as flexibility. The partnership is also very much into helping its partners and trusting them to do the right thing, so there is great support, benefits and space to develop yourself. Only downfall is that it is a very 'soft' company and no one gets challenged for their performance which gives the 'high performers' the mindset of why should we do more...

London based partners are very different from elsewhere in the country they are more transient and less committed to the company.

My experience here was mixed. General staff were friendly hard working people, however management seemed to be inflexible and poorly organized. This was reflected in the consistent flow of staff leaving due to mistreatment or inflexible hours.

Need more of a challenge, I worked on all different sections within the store and did enjoy being cross trained. I became a team leader and found job satisfaction adhering to time scales and working rotas within my team.

client base is salty old people who seem to complain about everything but team makes it fun and the work is nothing crazy doing stock can even be fun, pays monthly which was a con for me but a pretty good job overall

Great first job but can get boring. Really nice friendly people, everyone is keen to help if you need it. Great discount on food & at john lewis - worth doing !

Friendly management who help you for career development and fun to work there. Gives good bonus and good pay
