In my time at Walters, 

I have increased the amount of certifications I hold.
I have made amazing friends and memories.
I have received fair pay increase and performance appraisal.
I have learned a wealth of knowledge about the steel construction industry.
I have helped fabricate countless tens of thousands of tons for structural steel projects spanning high-rise towers to mine shafts.
It is rewarding to visit or point out  recognizable pieces of infrastructure you helped create that will be standing 100 years from now.

Fully loaded toolbox, Uniforms, PPE and an iPad are standard issue.

If you're looking to be a run of the mill basic skill welder/fitter this is the place for you. Its a big boys club if you don't fit in most likely wont get ahead. There is a lot of back stabbing. Always a fight between quality and production, common ground isnt found between both departments. Only certain people who are the supervisors pets are allowed to come in late or call in without backlash.  If you're looking to get an all position welding ticket thats not your place, if you're looking to fabricate something different; walters isnt for sure. Repedative, air quality in the shop is very poor, you'll leave there with a tight chest. Did i say room for growth is not available? They hire you for one role and one role only. Thats where they will keep you until you leave and or retire.

Everybody was always nice. If i ever had a question I didn't feel scared to ask and I knew I was going to get an answer. They always emphasized safety which always made me feel more safe working. It's a loud yet calm place to work. There's always something new to learn and you don't feel rushed through something you've never don't or haven't done a lot to ensure you have the time to do the job right. I always felt comfortable and satisfied with my work at Walters and I hope others feel the same. I hope I can work for Walters again in the future as a welder/fitter.

Rumour mill, favouritism, racism, harassment, inequality in pay rates. The boys club run the show. No real clue how to run a company the size they are turning into. Hundreds of hours wasted a week in rework and poor planning. Attitude towards women on the floor and minorities are pathetic. Racists posting pictures in the locker room and saying stuff out loud gets zero response from management. Safety is NOT number one, lots of talk but never action.

There is no accountability for the favourites, just pass the buck and blame others.

If you can eat it, suck it up, go along to get along and watch your fellow workers be degraded, Walters is the place for you!

Great culture - supportive leaders, management and team to work with.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Only the physical aspect but this is expected because welding is really hard labor so getting enough rest removes the stress.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Very good. Inclusive and there is respect for everyone. The management and admin team is very supportive. They take care of people like benefits are good.

Terrible place to work I was there for nine months and the 23rd person to leave in that time management is worried about looking like a bunch of Heroes more worried about donating money to charity then they are about the workers on the floor they are always hiring they will take anybody without any experience and there is a reason for that they are the only people that will go to that shop and stay no one with any experience will go there and stay any amount of time

ITS NOT STRESSFUL AT ALL, COMMUNICATIONS COULD BE BETTER.

PRETTY GOOD, MOST OF THE TIME .SHOP COULD BE BETTER ORGANIZED
 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
10 HRS A DAY WITH REGULAR BREAKS . AT THE END OF DAY 5 MIN CLEAN UP

You'll always be just another employee unless you're family or a Dutch Christian.
Multiple 'management' type positions to answer to...it's tough to know who to report to and who's request takes priority.

Christianity is expected and pushed.

New HR team replacing a VP/stakeholder's son was a welcome change and things are slowly improving to the levels of similar employers.

Like I said it's a decent place to work if you can get past the nepotism and Christianity.

It is a very rigid and dry environment to work in a rigorous schedule, so it is a must to have the lunch break in a specific time window and not a minute before or after which is generally very bad for work environment since it has nothing to do with the quality of work you produce.
