Peak season involved long summertime hours, frequent weekend work and could be stressful at times.

I learned many facets of multi disciplined civil construction.

Management was great to deal with and provided solid guidance and mentoring when needed.

Workplace culture was excellent as it was a tight knit group of people working together so not only did we work hard together but we also had a lot of fun as a group.A very dedicated group of employees.

Hardest part of the job at times was the stress of meeting customer and internal deadlines, handling difficult customers on occasion, time management including adjusting of priorities to better meet deadlines and manage time. The transition to a new accounting software and the affiliated software's was very stressful for about a year or so, until everyone became more familiar with the processes and procedures.

Most enjoyable aspect, it was like working with family being a smaller office in a smaller community.

Being a construction company, a typical day at work is as you'd expect it to be. Sometimes you can work at a nice pace, other times you're pressed to get a project done on time. Since I started working there in 2014, the workplace culture has come a long way. Safety is generally at the forefront.  I believe they could do better to evaluate their employees. Feedback is generally limited to callouts when a mistake is made rather than actual evaluations or suggestions. Work/life balance is as good as you'd expect at any seasonal construction job-- You'll clock lots of hours during the work season. There's little to no room for advancement unless you have an in with management, but there's lots of security in the job if you're an honest, hard worker.

Overall a great place to work.

Worked for Wapiti for 4 seasons on a base crew in Grande Prairie. Was able to move up from a shovel to machine with almost experience pretty quickly. Management always seems terribly unorganized especially when it came to project completion dates. I don’t think that I have worked on a single project that we finished on time. So overtime is very limited at the beginning of projects but near the end sometimes we are working 12-16 hour days.   I left due to the frustration of lack of opportunity to be trained on different Equipment specifically a Grader.

we drive to our job sight get the required tools for the job at hand we use plate tampers drive big tampers use gravel trucks graders skidders skidsteers  all kinds of hand tools we cut concrete with a chainsaw like saw but it has a cutting blade to cut aspholt dirty dusty enviroment work in public places around people use fences to get our job dont sometimes we work alone with minimal supervision at the end of the day we block of the area and leave it for another day

Very good, co-workers are willing to help others when needed

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
When all equipment is operating properly my day is enjoyable

I wasn't have equipment operator also help the guys out on the ground. I really love working here i would like to return, the management was great and the people were pretty good too, hardest part of my job was working around high voltage power lines and the highlight of my job was watching the little kids.Look at the heavy machinery while I was operating, also I really like the tight family at wapitti 

The management team is very knowledgeable and will show you everything you need to know about the business of road construction.  The equipment is well maintained and newer if not new. Room for advancement is easily available for any level. It's a great place to work.  

Can be a good job... I was let go randomly because the foreman had a personal problem with me. No call for work and then told to go hand in work clothes. If you can find a good crew that you clique with then this is a great job. Long hours, great money. Sucks when it rains though.

Typical day at work fast past action lots of multiple task jobs, multiple machines moving. Short staffed everyone always had to work extra hard. very little down time. good learning environment for new machine operators
