This company is very unprofessional and poorly organized. They don't seem to care very much about their staff or clients. Often times clients report that they are very displeased with the services and that their PSWs often quit early on into employment. Yes, this field has a high burnout rate but this particular company is so poorly constructed  that that is likely the cause of turnover rate. I could only handle the disorganized company for two months before I moved onto something else.

Positively speaking, the clients are often very lovely and somewhat understanding (the disorganized function of the company tends to affect this greatly). It is wonderful to be able to work independently with the client and reporting via telephone or in office about changes and whatnot. You're able to manage your own schedule to provide more flexibility however the company does not seem to respect availability and tends to overstep boundaries. Often times I've been guilt tripped into taking shifts that way surpass the time I put down as available. That being said, all of these pros can be found elsewhere with a potentially better company that operates smoothly. There are plenty of mobile PSW companies in Ottawa that have better reviews and success rates that would provide all of these pros.

Fast turnover rate! Yo don’t get paid for gas/ mileage. You go from one house to another and the distance is usually 15 mins apart (It will be more during winter because of the road conditions). Management is difficult to deal with. Salary is low for the hard work that you do. The interview process is long and tedious but you don’t get enough training so employees feel unprepared for the actual job. Short notice for schedules. You get long waiting hours before the next client - sometimes 1.5 hours of wait and you are unpaid for that! Too much paperwork. This job is ok if you are a fresh grad and you need experience.

Obtain scheduled appointments from coordinator, attend clients homes and assist with daily tasks such as cleaning, light meal preparation, bathing, dressing, toileting. Some clients required 2 assistants to attend, in my experience the staff were on time and friendly. The most enjoyable part of this job was that every client was different but they were always happy to have you there helping them. I learned a great deal from this job and the experience was positive in every way.

One day I had a client who was affected by a stroke on his left side and I enjoyed helping him do exercises. I liked to help him do a series of exercises for his entire body, such as head movements, shrugs, arm movements and leg movements, etc. When I first started with the patient my English pronunciation wasn't so good so he didn't understand me when I said "shrug." He laughed because he thought I said "shark."

I gained valuable experience when it comes to providing client's medical needs. When I started with the company, the travel distance seems unreasonable, however, as time goes by, time management is one of the most important tool to keep up with the schedule, along with proper communication among clients and coordinators due to medical emergency, traffic and weather.

Would drive to individual client residence, learned to cook cultural food, majority of clients were very respectful. 
Assisted where needed with ADLs and hygiene (voiding, incontinence ect.)
Comforted clients, involving them in conversations and their care.

I enjoy working for this company. wonderful atmosphere with great staff and a energetic environment.
I love the fact that there are some refresher courses that you can partake in, and also all of the different hand outs what you can receive to further your education.
Clients are absolutely wonderful and I enjoy working with them.

Lack of management accountability. Personal agendas prominent by management in a team oriented environment. False conception that the company actually cares about clients, reality is clients equal money. Lack of empathy, compassion. I feel the government should investigate disbursement of their funds provided. And should inspect facility more frequently.

I love working in home care, the company has some organization issues. They need to work on supervising the field staff more closely and be more clear as to what job duties entail per client. Communication is an on going issue with clients and staff members.

A typical day when doing home care is all about driving. That way I got used to driving in the city. There are times I get a lot of hours and more times I get a few. The only thing I didn't like is that I get 2 residents with overlapping schedule which I was told that I make the best of it. But I did enjoy working in WeCare.
