I started as a receptionist, and was quickly promoted to an admin position within the drilling group. Many people lost their jobs within the year I was there, with security escorting them out. My boss laid me off the day before my maternity leave was to start. HR was scared that I would go to Labour Relations and offered me my position back within the day. I was so stressed that I ended up in labour that night, 2 weeks early from my due date. When my maternity leave ended, there was no position for me. I applied to a part-time position within HR, but they would not even consider my application. Several of my girlfriends who also went on maternity leave with Weatherford could never return to the company once their leave was over. This company does not value or invest in its employees. The threat of lay offs is always in the air. I remember the culture as having the "old boys club" mentality. I could never recommend this company - keep looking for another company to pursue your career with!!

A typical day at work consisted of doing pre job travel paperwork, picking up parts, fueling truck, and heading out to work area, servicing or repairing approximately 4-8 engines. 
I learned to improve my efficiency, keep stock successfully, and report in regularly.
Management was pleasant and good to call when a serious decision had to be made, such as if an engine was to be removed from service and replaced. 
My co-workers for the most part were excellent, with some turn over.

Hardest part of the job was ensuring our regular run of service(up to 300 engines) was serviced on time and in order while still repairing and keeping all other clients equipment working .

The most enjoyable part of the job was dealing with the clients and knowing they trusted me to do my job well, as I had proven to them that I could, and had their best interests in dealing with their equipment.

Weatherford is a great company to work for, and there is some limited opportunity for advancement.  Their safety culture is very well known through the industry.

The work life balance was decent, though not always great.

The compensation, especially over the last few years was good, but never once increased.  No bonuses or even so much as a card at Christmas.

After 6 years of very loyal service going above and beyond numerous times at the expense of my family and my own money, when things slowed down, jobs were cut and I was given the mandatory 2 weeks pay for my years of service, and not a cent more.

Excellent place to work! The job was extremely challenging leading to extreme growth. Working with my fellow co-workers lead to an excellent  understanding of process and procedure, in which I was able to work with management to further develop and correct. 

Management is driven to ensure that only the best quality product and customer service is delivered to their customers without hurting anyone.Thier safety commitment is apparent in every procedure they do and the workers support and buy has been the best that Ihave been exposed to during the years I have worked.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Well organized and excellent communication from upper management.

Working environment was not so good as if you have request and concern, Division management were so slow to rely on head office in Houston. Vacation leave were also not given with a proper approval by the Division Management as some employees were approve for a month vacations and some were only 3 weeks approve vacations.

We are usually sent to go to a drilling site. Once on site, we bring down our equipments and tools. We then assemble and torque the tools and test it if its in good working condition. Once tested, we send the MWD tool in the drilling assembly. The tool is there to check and monitor the drilling inclination, azimuth, temperature and other data that is needed for the accurate drilling operation.

Flexibility and safety were paramount at Weatherford. Typical day of work was to prepare the tools and equipment, load the truck, fill up the truck and fill up road trip forms. Once in the field, call the coordinator to confirm arrival. Meet the client representative, discuss the worksite safety requirements, load off the truck and set up equipment.

Out of all companies I've ever worked for, I learned the most while working at Weatherford. It was a great place to learn while making a great living. One of the biggest draws for me was the total commitment to health and safety.
